Alt-Berg

I popped in to Altberg the other day because my walking boots (bought elsewhere) were really uncomfortable. I had read about their custom fitting services where they can stretch leathers uppers to achieve a better fit.


I was very impressed by the service I received. The boot-fitter I saw was extremely knowledgeable. He immediately diagnosed the problem by looking at the footbeds in my boots among other things. Rather than doing the boot shaping that I thought I might need he set about trying other things.


This included trying their Svartz footbeds, then adding various pieces to the footbeds(one of which he went and cut in the factory). Then he showed me how to lace the boots better, then adjusted the footbeds some more and then tried a thicker sock.


By the end I had much better fitting boots rather than having to buy a new pair. I'm not sure whether it will fix the problem yet as I need to put some miles on them, but the service was nevertheless exceptional and of the type rarely found anywhere in the UK any more.


He even did what I believe is a fantastic deal on the bits I needed to buy (compared to other shops' prices on the same things) and the total cost was less than the service I came asking about. I managed to see some of the factpry staff at work and its a really nice place to visit if you appreciate craftsmanship and quality.


I shall have no hesitation beating a path back to Altberg for my next boots.
