Looking to write this review a good 2 years late, I was pretty worked up when I saw the words "CLOSED" sat next to the institution name.
Lo and behold, a new brewery has arisen, but I must stake my claim at this original outpost of the Boulder powerhouse known as Avery Brewing.
Their tour is pretty phenomenal, as they continue to work you up to their funky beers, with a few sours thrown in for kicks. Staff are great, and the old brewery offered some real nit and grit. I appreciated what they did here.
At the new location, I believe they are slinging out a full-on dining menu as well as a far larger tap selection.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 16. Dez. 2014
I think I picked the best brewery in Colorado to spend a 65 degree day in December at. I loved the ambiance and the staff here, not to mention the swag they sell!! There's nothing better than soaking up some rays and drinking beers out on the patio even if it's in a warehouse area.
Located in an office park with many warehouses, Avery Brewery may be difficult to find (t's behind a bunch of buildings on Arapahoe Avenue and the signs leading there are kinda small and hard to notice). Avery Brewing Company is the 4th building behind the carwash. The driveway is between Global Collision Center and the carwash. Once you find it at the back of the office park, you'll find a large brewery with lots of activity with pallets being tractored back and forth, a large tap room, a generous patio and staff running back and forth from Savory delivering food.
I opted for the beers that didn't have national distribution and were exclusive (indicated by * on the menu known as tap room rarities) to the brewery such as. Here are some of my recommendations:
Top Picks:
Ellie's Brown Ale-Solid brown Ale with chocolate aftertaste
The Reverend-Belgian Style Quadrupel Ale. Classic Belgian Wheat.
Lilikoi Kepolo-A passion fruit saison, perfect for a warm day. It's a bit tart in the beginning and then mellows out. Easy to chug.
Uberschwein-American barley wine, easy drinking hops
GORED!: The only pumpkin ale I can stand. Smooth and spicy.
Mint Chocolate Stout: THIS TASTES LIKE A THIN MINT. I want to take this beer home and make a beer float with vanilla ice cream with it.
Least Favorite-
Eremita VII- A sour blond ale. You will make a pucker face when drinking this. Holy sour. It's like a beer lemonhead candy.
The food here is from Savory Cuisines from across the way, and the menu is pretty outstanding for brewery offerings, ranging from small plates (wings, tots, sliders etc.) to Vietnamese banh mi sammies to burgers to pizzas. We ordered the pork belly monsters ($10.75). It's sliced pork belly served with slices of toasted bread, reverend (beer referenced above) syrup and mustard and greens. Basically, pork belly bruschetta in a way.
I would encourage people to take a tour, they run from 4PM on Monday through Friday and 2PM on Saturday and Sunday. If I lived in Boulder I would be here on the regular since Avery has fantastic brews at low prices ($2 tastings).Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 24. Apr. 2010
*** Wow, $1 for 4oz tasters AND 22 choices! ***
That's what's available daily in the Tap Room.
Avery brews every beer in-house and offers
the broadest range of varietals I have seen:
Fifteenth Anniversary Ale ... 3 (underwhelming)
Salvation Belgian-Style Golden Ale ... 3.5 (ok)
Maharaja Imperial India Pale Ale ... 5 (the one)
Out of Bounds Stout ... 3.5 (an acq'd taste)
Czar Imperial Stout ... 4.5 (smoooooooth)
Mephistopeles' Stout ... 4 (17%ABV, scary!)
White Rascal Belgian Wheat Ale ... 4.5 (crisp)
Ellie's Brown Ale ... 2.5 (flat poser type)
Indian Pale Ale ... 3.5 (everyday pick)
Dry-Hopped IPA ... 4.5 (Sam Adams plus)
Samuel's Oak-Aged Ale ... 4 (kinda like wine!)
*** Yup, I tasted 11 beers ... (((burp))) o_O ***Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - 151757300920. Mai 2014
Nearly impossible to find. Look for the boring red "A" sign on the business park sign.
This place is kind of a pain, but we still enjoyed our visit. The parking situation blows but once you find a spot, there is ample seating inside and out for you to hang out.
Samples of beers varied from $1.50 to $5 for the heavier beer. Food was a little expensive, but at least the portions matched the prices. I got a burger but thought it was nothing special (certainly nothing more than I could make at home using garlic and onion powder). Jacob's Bahn Mi sandwich was good, wish I'd ordered that instead!
The beers were good and the service was friendly. Plus, they have tons of different styles of beer glasses to purchase for any collectors out there. We'll probably stop back at Avery on our next visit to Colorado.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 30. Juli 2013
I not only love Avery, but I LOVE White Rascal. I discovered White Rascal one day at the St. Louis Flying Saucer and have enjoyed it ever since. When I knew we were coming to Boulder on vacation, I had to see where one of my new favorite beers was brewed.
Avery Brewing is tucked away in a business commercial park and kind of a hard find. We were with someone who had been there before so for us it was an easy find. When you arrive, the pub is plain and simple. No fancy ambiance, the focus is on quality beer.
The tap room was packed, but we were able to find an area that accommodated our group of 8. As we nestled into our space, a perky waiter appeared to take our order. He was witty, suggestive and knowledgeable of his brews. He was quick in taking our orders and never wrote down a thing. He was entering all our orders into a little electronic box and soon one of his fellow workers appeared with our brews.
I noticed his work aide and asked if I could have a picture of his impressive "box". A cousin who did not notice the "box", scolded me for asking such a question. Everyone had a good laugh and told her to get her mind out of the gutter. I wanted a picture of his "electronic box".
The patio is as simple as the inside ambiance. It is a concrete pad with wooden picnic tables and benches. There were no umbrellas to provide shade and it was still filled with beer lovers. It is also a great place to enjoy a beer with your dog.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 28. Apr. 2013
I have toured numerous breweries in my time, and I would rank Avery among the top tier for the following reasons, in order of importance:
1. Taproom. Not only are the staff ridiculously friendly and helpful, but the list of beer that they offer is almost staggering. On my visit there were 21 drafts, ten of which were available only at the facility. I love that they sell both full sizes--either pints or ten-ounce glasses depending on ABV--and a taster size; if I were staying long enough, I would have tried them all.
2. Value. The tour is free. You get a taster of beer at the end, and for an extra two dollars, they will sell you a special pint glass as a memento (see photo).
3. Beer. Duh, why else do you go on a brewery tour? Avery sells some great stuff, much of which is available only in the taproom (see #1). I am generally not a fan of extraneous ingredients in my beer, but Avery does put together some interesting combinations. For example, brown ale with chai tea and Belgian-style wheat with passion fruit. In the end, my favorites of the several that I tried were the Salvation and the Ellie's Brown.
4. Tour. Our staffer was Walt, who had a fun, casual manner but also knew his stuff. They do only one tour per day on weekends, which on a Sunday is at 2pm. 30-person max; first come, first served.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - 11. Juli 2010
Defiantly one of my favorite local breweries! These guys make phenomenal beers and have a great place to drink them as well. They are constantly hosting really cool events and festivals as well as giving back to the community.
Just the type of business we all want to support. To that I say cheers!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 27. Mai 2014
Great beer! Even though it's a decently sized building, it's always crowded when I go. I almost always drive by it, as it's not on the road. And then parking is tough. But it's worth it. The beers are amazing and a wide range is always on tap. My favorite is the Maharaja IPA.
If it's your first time, I recommend getting to know Avery by gathering a group of friends, ordering a sample of each beer, and passing them around. Each one is worth trying!
I didn't realize that they had food until recently. The BLT was really good! Get the sweet potato tots - you won't regret it. The sweet potato tots are the best I've ever had. I will never return to Avery again without ordering them.
Also, they have a beer named after Trogdor, so clearly they know what's up.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 5. Aug. 2014
Once I finally located this place I had a hell of a time trying all the new ales Avery has put out. The patrons were super friendly in suggesting their favorite brews and food served here daily. I honestly cannot tell you what I had to eat because the beer had me feeling right with the world! This brewery has beer tins for as little as 10.00 bucks a piece and I grabbed several, when you get to Denver the tins there will run you about 25.00 and higher in comparison. But I definitely recommend this place from the servers to the brewmaster that showed me around 5 stars!!!

I don't drink - not at all - nada, zero, zip. Then, why am I reviewing a brewery? Just because I don't partake in the alcohol, doesn't mean I can't enjoy a place with a cool vibe and friendly people!
My travelling companion is a major boozer who loves craft and local beers! So, when we were in Boulder, we visited two local breweries; this one and Oskar (in Longmont) (which I will also review).
This was kind of in like a warehouse area. There are lots of tables outside to sit at and enjoy your drinks. The inside was very nice - lots of high-top tables, with very efficient, friendly servers. What I liked about the 2 breweries I visited was that for a couple bucks you could get several different, small glasses of beer - just to try different ones. This is what my friend did and she enjoyed everything that she tried.
This is a nice place to come with a bunch of friends just chill out. It has a very relaxed atmosphere. I loved it.
Too bad I can't rate the beer; but, I nevertheless enjoyed myself here. (My tall glass of water was delicious!)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
