Honestly the best afternoon tea I've ever had the pleasure of eating.
Two days ago, we went to the big Betty's in York - where we ordered two afternoon teas from - which had small towers giving small afternoon tea treats. It made for a good Instagram, however, yesterday we went to Blacker Hall Farm where we ordered afternoon tea - only to be treated to larger sandwiches, a giant scone each, and three unique delicious desserts. This far exceeded my expectations and also was quite a bit more tasty than Betty's.
Would definitely visit again soon!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michael B.Horbury, Vereinigtes Königreich2111521. Feb. 2016Erster Beitrag

This is a charming farm shop set in a cosy old stone barn. It is alongside a butchery which sells the famrs own beef, pork and lamb as well as an on site bakery and a well stocked delicatessen.
The range is from quiches, soups, tarts. Everything that it produces is made from the original recipes and uses natural ingredients and tastes divine and homely.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (mimin…)Wakefield, Vereinigtes Königreich312717. Nov. 2008
Well, don't visit this place if you're hungry and broke - not a good combination. It's pricey, but then most farm shops are - you go for the quality of the produce, not in search of a bargain. And the quality is very high here - the sausages are truly delicious, amongst the best I have ever tasted. (Although I was disappointed that the venison sausages I purchased also contained a proportion of pork). The bread also is truly yummy, but so far I have managed to tear myself away from the heavenly looking cakes and desserts without buying any, so I cannot speak for their flavour. (But they do look divine). The wine selection upstairs looks great (and the building itself is very charming and olde-worlde), but too rich for my blood financially.

The standard for all Farm Shops to try and achieve. Local veg, so fresh you can't help but sniff the produce as you walk round. Meat sourced mainly from the farm itself and even when they run out, they use nearby farms. Butchery, smokehouse, bakery all on site. Whilst it's true that it costs more than a supermarket, it's very cheap for the quality on sale. i haven't bought veg anywhere else since.

Great farm shop, with a wide variety of local produce (no plastic wrappings), seasonal vegetables all you need, no extra trips to supermarket necessary.
fresh breads, cakes, pies etc., lager selection of meats seasoned and plain.
Deli counter with home made pies ready to eat or back at home...jams, wines, bears, local ice cream in tubs, gluten free breads and cakes, really anything you need you'll get it here.- its not cheap as chips but you get what you pay for, prices are reasonable.
Shop radiate atmosphere and charm though its well designed wholesome natural interior design, the product displays are inviting veg in wicker baskets and wooden shelfs.
The cafe bistro is modern comercial clean, set in a barn with second level gallery seating and outside patio with court yard, great when sun is shining like it did today.
- service is pick table number, order food, sit and relax food arrived in no time. (this is sunday lunch time by the way)
Food is nicely presented, large selection of cakes and chilled dessert tarts, gluten free option available.
Savoury food is prepared fresh, no counter with half warm food from 3 hours ago.
I'll go again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (_jon…)Leeds, Vereinigtes Königreich0522. Juli 2011
The beef is excellent. The pork is ok. The fowl are the usual supermarket broilers.
The bread is fair but nothing to write home about.
The cheese/deli counter is good.
The pies look attractive but to my mind lack flavour. Which is a shame. Because I think they're made with love and decent ingredients
And the veg well it's dirtier than the supermarket, and well presented, but it's by no means all local.
The service in the caff is shocking. 3 visits now: it looks the part, but the speed of service/organisation service is dismal. It does not take more than hour to prep a full english, when it's clear the bacon and sausages are oven baked. The ingredients are good but the cafff needs a competent manager.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Explor…)Leeds, Vereinigtes Königreich0212. Mai 2013
