Brauhaus Ernst August

We saw this place was a brewery and restaurant when we stopped in Hannover. I'm a huge brewery/restaurant fan. I saw they had 2 beers on the menu. Pils and Saison. I had the pils and although it was different than any traditional pils it was still a good beer. I ordered the tomato soup and schnitzel with spicy sauce. The tomato soup was hearty, and peppery which I really enjoyed. The schnitzel with spicy sauce is definitely odd for Germany but figured I'd give it a go since I love spicy food. The schnitzel by itself was pretty good but the sauce on top was odd. At first I liked it but the more I ate the more I hated it. I give them 4-5 stars for service, atmosphere. I knock them down for the food. Would suggest trying it out, just avoid the spicy sauce!

This is a very popular place. They make their own beer so it is a hot spot. The atmosphere isn't too bad but the food that we had ordered was awesome. If you have a group get a growler of beer as it is a cool experience.

I ordered the Vienna style schnitzel which was amazing. It was perfectly cooked and the mushroom sauce was buttery and rich. I wanted a second by the time I was done.

Definitely put this one on the list for the schnitzel.

The cab driver who took us here said this place was touristy and that the beer was too bitter. Well, as a tourist myself, he may be correct. As for the beer (and food) though, I do not see what he did not like.

My mate and I went during lunch hour during the work week while touring Hannover. The waitress was polite and attentive to our requests and questions (and she even spoke some English). Being a brewpub in Germany, the cuisine is German, too. We ordered a baked potato with salad, gulasch soup, and Kartoffelrösti (hashbrowns) while we enjoyed a few beers. The food was a little more expensive than other places, but the portions were quite large - so I feel we got what we paid for.

Now, this place makes its own micro-brews, so I had high standards for their beers. They did not disappoint! Their pilsner is possibly the most unique I have ever had - its cloudy appearance and full-mouthed taste make it stand apart from others in Germany (a country over-flowing with pilsners). I would recommend trying the "Roter Saphir," too.

Overall, this place is a fun brewpub worth going to if you are in the center of Hannover.

Solid service and good menu. The food was good. The pork was tender and the dunkelbiersauce was tasty (dark beer sauce). The shnitzel was good but not great.

The best beer in town. Friendly service and great food. We love this place!

Nice typical german restaurant in the centre of Hannover. Here we found self-made beer. We enjoyed the party with live-music. (They even have a seperate room to smoke!)


Next to the brauhaus you can have breakfast in the bistro.

Hanover`s Hofbrauhaus! Biggest and most frequented party venue. Nice brewery-decor and good solid German food cooked to an excellent standard. Tourists as well as locals go there to enjoy a good, cold Hanoversch which especially in summer is so refreshing. The customers are of a wide age range, the live-music at the weekends is always brilliant. Service is consistently friendly and attentive and it's fun to watch the bartender filling up the glasses. Brauhaus is my favourite place in Hanover - Must see it.

strange crowd. lots of older men who seem to come alone and just stand there with their beers and watch girls like ominous vultures. not so lovely. there are huge screens to watch sports events - it could be a fun place to watch a football match maybe. they have live music but that is pretty hit or miss and kind of all over the place in terms of style. so brauhaus is really not my scene, but a german friend told me it is the place she takes her parents when they want to 'party a bit.' so yes - there you go, that sums it up pretty well.
