It is a small town located north of the town of Stirling. It lies on the Allan Water, a left hand tributary of the river Forth and is near the grounds of the University of Stirling. The place is most probably most famous for the Strathallan Games held every first week of August. Hundreds of athletes, highland dancers and pipe bands get together on those days. This year the fun starts on 8th August on the land between Stirling Castle, the Ochil HIll and the Wallace Monument. The competition includes heavyweights, like the traditional caber tossing, hammer throwing, etc, athletics (long jump), wrestling, and cycling. The highland dances include famous reels and jigs, among them the sword dance. And the last competition running is that between bands of pipers. Add to the fun and not so much to the competitive streak is a number of trade stands and a funfair for all ages but with special emphasis on the young crowds.
