This is a great little coffee shop. We had breakfast and cappuccino's here, which were quite reasonably priced and the service was very quick. The Eggs Benny was great! Would recommend...

Oh my.
This unassuming cafe ended up being one of our favorite breakfasts in Edinburgh. Great coffee, reasonable prices, and terrific fresh food.
I loved the eggs Benedict both the regularly one but also the one with smoked salmon too. Eggs were so melt in your mouth dreamy too.
If you're staying nearby in New Town, this is a good call.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Anthony G.Nesconset, Vereinigte Staaten472153370102. Juni 2018
Mixed feelings about this new town Edinburgh cafe/ breakfast and lunch spot. Came here a couple times already since it's around the corner from me and it's just not consistent. Though the coffees are often good and strong, the pastries are just not that great. The banoffee cake is a misfire with banana, but no toffee. The cheese cake is rather gritty and has an aftertaste. Inside is quite comfy and they have WiFi. Just watch out because they have off hours. Some nights they stay open late and some they close early. Changes with the weather and around here, it's often. Good for coffee, but for a snack, not so great.

Our favorite breakfast spot in Edinburgh! Staff is very kind and food is fresh and authentic.
I ordered the plain croissant with a side of bacon every time. The best croissant I have ever had. Of course paired with irish butter it's just to die for. And the orange juice was so fresh and full of pulp like I like it.
The rest of the table ordered the waffles which also come with bacon. The bacon is nice and crispy.
Highly recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sass S.Edinburgh, Vereinigtes Königreich18867725. Mai 2015Aktualisierter Beitrag

Cafe Marlayne
Spectacular. Really. Can't say enough great things. Beautiful seating. Music choice and volume. Service lovely. And the food! Sublime. See my photo of broccoli w/ almond shavings and garlic beans....... Can't wait for the lemon cake I've ordered. The menu looks divine. Really creative interesting. Courgette carrot cake I think?
My waitress, her name is Angus, really good. Makes eye contact. Is swift and thoughtful. Checked on me but left me be..... A excellent skill when waitering. She comes across sincere and genuine.
Love that she clears away. No idea how that pleases me. The little table looks neat and tidy. I can stress out if table not cleared. It's odd but a lot of cafes in Edinburgh miss this simple thing. Drives my bonkers!!!
Horahhh! my lemon cake here. I drank my entire non dairy milk cappuccino. I meant to only drink half. It was soooo delish.
Free wifi.

Gluten free brownies!!!!

Been here a few times, good coffee, good cake and if you like your teas there is a list of about 30+ to pick from (Heath and Heather teabags not loose).
Never tried the restaurant out back, only ever a coffee and friend catch up spot but very useful location for all be it escaping shopping in the James center or recovering from an up and over of a certain hill opposite :)
Staff are friendly enough, occasionally look a little disinterested at being there but happens with the best of us. Hodpodge of decor and furniture in the cafe element, limited space, and it'll be a fight to get the front nook leather chairs but it's a chilled spot and just what's needed sometimes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amy G.Glasgow, Vereinigtes Königreich644815028. I have had some beautiful meals in Cafe Marlayne's - and one of my favourite cakes in the entire world ever! It's a go-to place for me and my mum after we've had a cultured afternoon at the cinema or the theatre, with it being so close by, and the menu is good value for the quality of food you get.
The first time I went, I was blown away. I chose a main course of partridge, with gnocchi and herb oil, which was so delicious. I don't think I had ever actually eaten partridge before, but this made me fall in love with it. It had a slightly gamey flavour, but the gentleness of the gnocchi and the herb oil created a really beautiful dish.
The true star of the meal though was my dessert. I opted for the Pistachio and White Chocolate cake, and I do not exaggerate when I say this cake was frigging amazing. The cake itself was thin and crumbly with the lovely, nutty flavour of pistachios, and covered in thick layers of light but sweet white chocolate frosting.
The menu has changed since I last visited but has a lot of variety as well as being quite refined. The lunch menu is slightly shorter but still has a good mix of meat and fish. Price wise at Cafe Marlayne, two courses will cost you around £12-15 which isn't too bad for the quality of food they deliver.
I've never had any problem with the service, sometimes it can be a little on the slow side, but I'm usually willing to wait because the food is of such a high standard and rarely falls short of my expectations.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Alan R.West End, Edinburgh, Vereinigtes Königreich1121415. Went here for brunch today and, as my fellow Yelpers have said previously, once you walk through the front cafe area, you're greeted by a large, nicely decorated room at the back with funky art on the walls, tables that aren't too crammed together and a big TV that is out of the way if you don't want it but useful for keeping up on the headlines. With skylights in the ceiling, the room is filled with light during the day, so it got me in the brunch mood.
So to the food. For brunch, it's a fairly standard menu with the full Scottish, bacon rolls, egg benedict, porridge, croissants and a few other varieties around that. I went for the eggs florentin and it was very good. The eggs were done right so that the yolks ran free and the hollandaise sauce tasted great without being overpowering. I also had a black coffee, which pleasingly was ordered and delivered within 5 mins of arriving - proper service.
And the cost was reasonable too. So I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a new brunch spot.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Dr Monique B.Liberty, Vereinigte Staaten630119. Okt. 2017

I've driven past this so many times and felt intrigued to try but never actually did it until the OH decided to book it for lunch!
I'm glad he did. To start, we both had crab fritters which were very similar to arancini and so creamy. The saffron cream that came with the fritters really brought out the flavours. It was quite a delight.
To follow I tried something different and something I wouldn't do myself at home - Guinea foul. It was beautifully cooked and came with a lovely sauce.
The OH enjoyed his duck - nothing left on his plate equals a good thing!
The flat whites were equally as nice.
Service was quick, friendly and efficient. Although it was quick difficult to catch the servers eyes to pay our bill. My one pick would be of that the sound bounces about the place and it can be quite loud.
Would I reccommened? Yes! Will I go back? Of course!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
