Cafe Madrid

I had the salmon and penne and it was amazing. Because this is Prowein week there are many more wines by the glass than normal, that's awesome.

Coffee was good but the waitress was very cheeky. We also had breakfast and I wanted some extra butter. Asked her twice and I'm still waiting for it. When we wanted to go she pushed us away while we were putting on our jackets because she wanted to clean the table.

A nice place in a great location....perfect for people watching. Inside is cozy and has a "Madrid" theme. Note that the place inside is non-smoking but the room next door is smoking, so if you can imagine the non-smoking room is really second hand smoke, but strong second hand smoke. My waitress didn't even crack a smile once, but I had a fabulous hot chocolate.

Tapas + Italian + Schnitzel

Usually means we don't eat at a place wwth a "crossover" menu. But Spanish wines by the glass were actually darned good for the price. Plate of Pata Negra was really nice at €9.50. Had a few other unremarkable tapas but we'd return just to sip on the red wine and people watch.

Awful service and we were charged for extra drinks. Plenty of better options in the area.

Great bar on the main drag in Duesseldorf, Bolkerstrasse. Was in here on a Sunday and Monday night, was quiet and relaxed on both nights, a good respite from the noise outside (especially from the awful Ballerman opposite). Pleasant staff. Try the coffees or hot chocolate with amaretto. Interesting decor.
