Hit this place smack in the middle of siesta, and didn't have time to go back, so we missed the interior. However, we were able to enter the reception area of the Castillo during siesta, because it serves as the tourism office for Rota, and luckily an attendant was there after hours.

Since I did a lot of research, I'll include it here, despite not being able to go through the castle.

The 13thC Luna castle was built under control of "Guzmán the Good" over top of an 11thC Muslim convent. It has five towers (with the crenelated castle stereotype look), and the interior centers on a courtyard. Ponce de León once resided in this castle. The castle has also acted as a school, hospital, and along with its current roles as tourism office and historical landmark, it also acts as City Hall.

The Luna Castle is proof for the coat of arms of the village of Rota.

There is a plaque in Spanish on side wall that says: A son of this town (house?), Bartolome Perez, was interned crew of one of the caravel ships, assigned to Christopher Columbus, that discovered America. And on the second journey to the new world, this dedicated sailor directed as pilot on the caravel to San Juan. (my loose translation)

The Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la O is right across the square from the Castillo, so it is super-easy to visit both at once.
