C'est Bon is a petite French restaurant located in Woolloongabba. My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here recently and... ooh la la.

It is a very small restaurant with classic French décor. Tea light candles and elegantly decorated tables create a warm and romantic atmosphere. The food is sublime. I have never eaten French food before and I was pretty keen to try escargot - which to my delight was on the menu.

I ordered the cassoulet for my main which is the richest dish I have ever eaten in my life! A crispy skinned melt in your mouth duck leg confit, Toulouse sausage and piece of pork belly served on white haricot beans - exquisite.

The service was exceptional! The wait staff returned at regular intervals to ensure we were enjoying ourselves or required anything - they also provided wine recommendations for each of our meals. It is quite expensive so maybe save for a special occasion.

Have finally decided to come here, the restaurant was spotless. With the cute booth sitting and tables along side the wall. It is truely a neat set up. The is a good variety on the menu, we opted for the $75 entrée/ main/ desert. For the entrée we hade the soup of the day which was Tomato gaspartio , and Goat cheese tart, mains we ordered the Lamb shank that just pulled of the bone. Rib eye absolutely amazing . And for desert, the cream brûlée and the flaming crepes Suzette. The food was amazing. The service was ok, but needs a little improving, but don't let that stop you from coming. The reason for the rating is there was no sparkling water and also there was some menu items that where unavailable. Which for this upmarket restaurant is unacceptable.

Well.. Firstly, the translation is; "It's good".. Not great, just good... MacDonald's is good, which reminds me, I could have bought myself literally 20 large meals, for what it cost two of us to eat at C'est Bon... But enough about McValue.

The presentation of the restaurant is amazing. I definitely felt like I was hidden off the street in a petite upper class establishment, two chairs to every table, with a candle for each. The authenticity of French staff and music was the cerise on top.

The quality of the food was nice, however the portion size after 3 courses, left me craving a little McValue.

I started with an entrée of ratatouille, which at just under $20 for a palmful of roasted vegetables, I would have expected to pay for a main.

For the main, I chose coq au riesling (a chicken dish), which set my date back $35. I found this meal very disappointing. For that price, I would have expected fillets or the sort in the chicken broth. Instead, it was a chicken Maryland ($1.80 from the deli (mostly ribs and drumstick)). Not being a fan of having to hack at carcasses, I mostly just drank the souplike broth it was in, which being as rich as it was, was probably not the best idea either.

By the time we came to ordering dessert, I had felt so incredibly guilty for my date to be paying for what I hadn't enjoyed, we shared the tasting platter. It contained 5 items, all small portions of course. This was the first course that I had thoroughly enjoyed, and at $32 for both of us, it was probably the best value of the night.

By the time we left, the place was packed with young Australian guys taking girls on dates... Now the prices made sense.

If you want to get someone into the sack through sheer guilt, take them to C'est Bon.. It's good. ;)

C'est bon? Mmm it's ok. As a keen French foodie, the dishes I had at C'est Bon weren't the best I've tasted.

To start I had the chicken liver mousse with toasted brioche. I'm a big fan of French paté and this didn't disappoint. I was tempted to go for the escargot, another favourite, but after seeing someone else's at my table, I wasn't too sad that I hadn't. I always prefer to see escargot served in their shells, however, these came "naked" in moulded plastic trays.

For the main, I had the duck and unfortunately, it was a bit dry. As for dessert, I think I chose poorly. I'd never tried a sweet soufflé and didn't enjoy the one I had here at C'est Bon. Whether that's a reflection on the restaurant or my personal preference, I don't know.

C'est Bon has a large menu and there are other things on it I'd like to try. The atmosphere and service was good, so I'd definitely go back and give it a second try.

Great food and service. Would highly recommend this place. We had the duck and chicken for mains and could barely fit dessert in. They also have a good selection of Australian and French wines.

When the French restaurant C'est Bon first opened one could only make reservations via email. No phone number was listed nor was it anywhere on the signage. I immediately assumed this was a classy and exclusive establishment for classy and exclusive people. So not me, basically. A friend of mine really wanted to try it, however, so I put my top had and tailcoat into the dry cleaners and made a booking.

Once inside the relatively modest exterior I was greeted by well set tables, atmospheric lighting and a French speaking waiter, how authentic! We began the meal with the degustation entrée which was a real delight. The pate rich and creamy, the garlic snails hot and buttery and the scallops perfectly cooked. For mains I would recommended the steak. It might sound a little unadventurous but with a generous piece of rocquefort cheese melting over the perfectly salted meat and a pile of shoe string fries on the side it is a sure fire winner. The crispy duck with creamy sweet potatoes, braised red cabbage and a brilliant orange and Grand Marnier sauce is also a must. The richness of the meat complemented perfectly by the sweet vegetables and orange sauce. With mains are around $35 which is reasonable given the quality and it if you're looking to impress a special someone you could do a lot worse. And they even have a number now!
