DeJarvis Taco

In my yesteryear, Mexico was THE place to be. Cheap drinks, no drinking age and better yet, no closing time. After consuming a flaming dr. pepper or 182, we'd get some great mexican drunk food. One of the places we'd frequent was "dejarvis", a little mecca for "sincronizadas", large tacos with an assortment of meat and grilled onions and cilantro and oh my god who knows what else.

Well that dream of dejarvis has made the leap over to the American side of the border and is now servin em up hot and fresh. Take a friend, take your family or go by yourself and eat yourself into a shameful state. First, you get hot fresh corn chips with pico de gallo, spicy creamy green sauce and a mess of limes. Next, they bring you hot fresh perfectly spiced beans. THEN, you order.

The sincronizada campana is a 12 inch homemade flour tortilla filled with fajitas, trompo, queso fresco. Add grilled onions, avocado and cilantro. Then smother the whole thing with the green sauce a la pollo regio, some sour crema, and pico de gallo.

Then you can send me a compliment saying "thank you" for letting you know this slice of heaven existed in the heart of sotex.

You know it's probably a good place when the restaurant is full of locals.

Also, the menu is almost entirely in Spanish so it obviously caters to people who enjoy the native cuisine.

Good breakfast tacos. We especially enjoyed the Papas a la Mexicana tacos. The Barbacoa was pretty good too, not greasy like some other places.

They also have a nice variety of delicious salsas to choose from.

Would definitely come back here for Breakfast Tacos again.

I ordered an horchata, a dish with chorizo & mozzarella cheese, and pastor tacos on corn. Everything was DELICIOUS! Authentic food. Especially the chorizo and cheese dish! Yum! I am definitely coming back and recommend this to everyone!

Btw, the restaurant is super chill. Casual dressing. Mom & Pop style and very decently priced for the portion sizes.

First time trying this place and I was not disappointed! The food was hot and super tasty when we received it. The customer service was great as well. I recommend this place if you want authentic Mexican food!

Recommended by a co-worker that was in town on business. He didn't let me down, best tacos I've had in years. Last time I had tacos this good was off the beaten path in Aquascalientes, Mexico. If you want authentic Mexican street tacos, look no further.

This place rocks!! The food is awesome. Tasty, well prepared, and very affordable. We had Caldo Tlalpeño and it was very delicious. We have also had their tacos, omelettes, and their guacamole. If you go, ask for waiter Ruben. He's the best waiter.

I came here with my mom, while running errands in the area. I had the enchiladas Mexicanas and was super grateful to find non-American enchiladas in a restaurant, for once. Don't get me wrong, the American version is cool too, but there's just something about authentic ones that reminds me of my childhood and instantly makes me happy. So, I was pretty satisfied. It would've been cool if they'd rolled them up, like my mom does, but it's the same taste, so it's no big deal (my mom also adds a TON of peppers, so in that sense, I was grateful that they weren't quite like hers).

Loved the combos. Comes with 3 or 4 tacos (your choice of meat) with a good sized cup of beans, a baked potato and drink. Only complaint: SOO much cheese on the baked potato! Calm it down lol

Over all, best thing about this place is the BEANS.

When downtown, if it's tacos pastor you're craving, nobody beats DeJarvis. Friendly staff, great service, clean restaurant and great food!! When in McAllen, I always hit this spot. Nobody better!

Let me start by saying that this place was 100% what I expected. A small, Mexican owned, NON-fancy and simple restaurant.

That being said, the food was AMAZING!! I travel all over the place and always enjoy the authentic, working-man restaurants.

The place itself is on a very small lot and is decorated and furnished with simple tables, and nothing on the walls and a pink-ish ceramic floor.

I ordered tacos de carne asada, which came with charro beans in a small cup, chips, salsa, limes and salsa; there are about 6 types of salsa, so try them all.

Beans were well cooked and seasoned, with a bit of fat from the pork, which ads a ton of flavor. Chips were fresh and lightly salted, a bit above average.

The tacos, oh the tacos! 6 small tacos on corn tortillas that were just tasty as heck!! Good quality meat, diced white onions, cilantro and sautéed white onions.
Really enjoyed the meal and the service.
Highly recommend it, as long as you're not put off by the simple appearance. This is the definition of authentic.
