Der Chinese Am Fleet

When in China, I learned that the quality of restaurants there does typically not correlate with its interior. So I wasn't worried that the "Chinese am Fleet" is located about as unpoetically as you can go in Hamburg, and oozes that cheap corner Chinese charme of decades lost. At the off time I visited, the only other customer was a Chinese-looking guy slurping his rice, which I took as a good omen as far as buy-in by the Chinese community at large.

"Chinese am Fleet" seems to cater to two kinds of customers: the lunch break crowd seeking hearty grub for 7€, and people craving authentic yet inexpensive Chinese dishes for a few more bucks (expect 12-16€ for most dishes). Second group, the first two pages in the menu are for you!

There is much variety to choose from, with a spiciness warning for most of the authentic dishes. Portion sizes are very generous - obviously you'll have more fun as a group to share Chinese-style, otherwise this will likely be a very meat-focused experience. The pork belly dish I sampled tasted really good, rich and fatty as it should be, nicely seasoned.

Don't worry too much about the spiciness warning - even at the highest rating, the food remains nicely edible. Thai nationals will still need to apply some extra chili.

So - it's not the most authentic or best Chinese dining experience I had in Germany, but can more than hold its candle among Hamburg's everyday Chinese options.

good, solid Chinese food -- if you're hungry, you'll be happy you came to this great neighbourhood find.
the restaurant itself is unassuming; it's big enough but not fancy. service was friendly and quick when asked for, and the food came out fresh and fast. the vegetables were delicious, and all the meats we had were done tenderly and flavorfully. prices are fair, and you do get a good portion.
as with most Chinese restaurants, the menu is designed for family-style eating there is also a lunch menu that is served from 11am-5pm.
my peeps come from Shanghai, so i never got my tastebuds trained for Sichuan-style spicy, so much of this menu was a bit off-limits to me. however, there are plenty of non-spicy options and i can say they are all yummy!
the restaurant is off of the main street Eiffestrasse, behind a car rental place.

Not often does one feels "OMG! This is so much food (also tasty ;)) for such less money!" It happened to me and my friend last night. The food was only more than sufficient for the two of us (we eat a lot, trust me!). It was spicy enough, tasty and appetizing. The service was okay and the ambience was decent. The place might not be romantic but you'd definitely want to romance the food they serve ;) I would definitely go there again and recommend it to any food lover, who loves spicy food :)

OMG, the best Chinese food ever. They have a Chinese menu, and the food there is absolutely authentic. We ordered boiled spicy beef and sour bean with minced pork. It is soooo tasty that I want to lick the dish. The restaurant is not big. We came in 7pm on Sunday, and it was already full. We wait about 20 mins to get a table. And the food didn't disappoint us. I have also ordered several take-away here. The food is also great. Definitely recommend it to others.

2. I'm not a fan of spicy food but I still want to recommend this restaurant for people who like the real Asian food. Because including me, all Asians who like spicy food would go there. At least, the best one in Hamburg. ( Frankfurt has a better spicy food restaurant in my mind haha)

We came here with great expectation, since it was mentioned by yelp and also some fellow Chinese as one of the best in Hamburg. From a Chinese point of view the restaurant is fair, but doesn't meet our expectation. The highlight is the spicy beef soup, and the water spinach (通心菜) is good. The sour soup fish (酸菜鱼) is fair. The spicy duck （干锅鸭） is not fresh, and the cucumber (拍黄瓜) is a total joke. The service is disaster. The lady is rude and inpatient. She won't take a second to explain anything, keep complaining if you didn't order fast enough. She has only 4 tables to attend! But no one come here for service anyway.

In general, it was an okay place. That leaves us to wonder what we can still expect from Hamburg...

Our favorite Chinese restaurant! Good service, delicious food, and quiet atmosphere.

I have a great liking for Chinese food that's why i was drawn to this place. This place kept its word. The food especially the Sezuan beef soup was mind-blowing.

Excellent Hunan style food with an extra menu in Chinese: some customers were Chinese always a good sign. I went there with a Chinese colleague and let him order. We had some great ribs, duck, lamb, chicken and also a Sezuan style spicy beef soup/stew which was amazing. Possibly the best Chinese food I've ever had.
