Försterbräu

This entry is incorrect: it's not "Försterbräu" but "Forsterbräu" ... only 1 umlaut! If you search for "Forsterbräu" you will never find it in Yelp because it's spelled incorrectly (Försterbräu). This place is located in Freiheitsstrasse/Corso della Libertà 90 in Meran/Merano. The website in English is https://www.forsterbrau.it/en. I tried to make a variety of fixes and additions but Yelp is too stubborn to fix the errors and the inconsistencies.

We had dinner at this restaurant before 7PM on the 28th of May. The place, when we arrived, was relatively quiet. The restaurant has seating outside (front), inside and outside (back). We intercepted an employee in the front and I asked to be seated inside. He sent us to a coworker who was attending inside. This guy confirmed it was dinner for two but did not bother to ask if we wanted to eat inside or outside. He just took off and went outside. After a while I just let the fool walk and get lost. I walked back inside and I told some other employee I wanted to sit inside (because, as usual, there is always somebody smoking near me eventually and that is extremely annoying (smokers are notorious for not caring about those who don't smoke). We seated in a corner inside. Our waiter, the same dummy that walked away, came to our table for drinks ... what a pleasant coincidence. I ordered a Forst Helles Bock beer which I liked. It had a little more kick than the regular 4-6% alcohol beer. With 7.5% it was bolder in flavor but not in an ostentatious way. It was balanced, malty, a little stronger but well crafted. I liked it. My girlfriend ordered a medium-size peach tea with a limited amount of ice and got a small counterpart. She flagged it and the drink disappeared. You'd think the waiter would make sure she got the drink she ordered but no: he came to get the orders for the food. At that point I ordered a Meraner sausage with French fries. I inquired about what it was and I was told it was basically a Frankfurter. Hence, I did not understand the point of calling the sausage a Meraner when there is nothing about Meran about it. I wanted to eat something different so I went ahead with it. Meanwhile, my girlfriend got her drink and this time it was large but no sign of the ice she requested. My food arrived and it was nothing exciting. It was a simple sausage with some boring fries. The sausage had nothing to do with Meran as I anticipated. The fries were not French and there was no point in calling them like that. After finishing my food I decided I would get a dessert. I asked about the apricot dumpling with strawberry sauce. I was trying to understand if it was something made of pastry or if it was a cake. Essentially, I wanted to get a picture in my head. Our waiter was vague and very approximate about the dessert. He ended up saying stuff like "it's sweet" (no sxxt ... it's a dessert), it's cooked (yeah, no kidding, tell me how ... steamed, fried, baked and so on) and "the dumpling is in the apricot" (the cretin was probably high). I figured it was something made of pastry but that was only the image in my head. I got a bowl with 2 dumplings that were soft. The core of the dumpling was an apricot marmalade. The shell was soft and I suspect it was made of panna cotta (pretty sure about it). The dumplings, if you can call them like that, were similar to soft domes. They were good. The strawberry sauce was decent. It was a nice and interesting dessert.
The menu has a handful of typos. The online menus in Italian and English do not exist which is stupid. If you click on those they always point to German.
Our waiter was only after getting orders. He had no interest in making sure we got what we needed. I dropped a fork and he took it away but never replaced it. When it was time to order something he was regularly missing in action and I had to wait while he was passing near my table 2 to 3 time on the average. Since he was serving 15 tables he was always around except near us. When it was time for the check he did not remove the small peach tea and, luckily, I caught it otherwise I would have paid it. The beer was good, the food (mine) was nothing exciting. The dessert was good. The service was awful. We had a guy who really did not care and he was distracted in just buzzing around like a bee on a bunch of flowers loaded with pollen.

Amazing meal!! The barley soup was delicious. Such a wonderful place to eat. English menus available too, which really helped us! Hope to be back to Bolzano and Forst!

They have nice cozy shaded patio inside the building, so it is a good atmosphere. However, the Forsterbrau brewery's beers are average at best. We didn't try the food so can't comment on that.

Our VBT guides Christian and Ellena gave us this recommendation . The food was amazing! I had pumpkin soup and prawn pasta. The server was friendly and attentive and even brought the pumpkin soup split. Best restaurant on our trip so far!!!
