Best meal we had in Mallorca. Beautiful and elegant restaurant, but they still offered a kids menu. Makes a family feel welcomed to relax and enjoy. Stick to the tapas - they are very creative and beautifully portioned. We also ordered the suckling pig, which was perfectly fine, but it really didn't compare to the smaller plates. Cocktails were great. Service was brisk (which was fine for us because we were with kids) and they treated us extremely well. Not a fan of the bread charge, particularly since we were charged for my husband who actually abstained, but beyond that, Forn de Sant Joan gets my highest recommendation.
Clientele dressed casually so don't feel concerned if you are traveling with kids. They were very welcoming.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joseph J.Bethpage, Vereinigte Staaten28482511. Juli 2019
My review will be short and sweet as per usual. The staff was extremely friendly. We didn't have to wait for our waiter. All of the wait staff asked how our dinner was and if we wanted to order more. The food... out of this world. We had 4 tapas which I have added as well as a phenomenal amuse-bouche compliments of the chef. The oxtail brioche was so delicate and tasty. Easily my favorite dish! This is a must visit if you are in Palma!

My sister and I were here last week. We were wandering around looking for a cute restaurant and decided to stop here! The servers are all sooo nice and helpful and the crowd seemed very, shall we say, prosperous.
We ordered the mini burgers and the rigatoni. The rigatoni was AMAZING. The sauce was to die for. The burgers weren't that good.
I got a tropical smoothie too. That was decent enough.
Then one of the servers walked around to each table offering bread. We said sure - later realizing they charged $2.50 per slice! Or per person. Either way it was sneaky.
They do have wifi and the decor is cute.
I think we also met the manager or owner and he is great. His family owns 4 restaurant/bars in Palma including Koa which is across from Forn. That place was cool and the strawberry cake drink is yummy.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ilona C.Los Angeles, Vereinigte Staaten07410. Aug. 2019
We just happened to stumble on this place. Absolutely amazing!!! The tapas was out of this world, every bite was a culinary adventure that got better with every bite. Macarena, our server was so sweet and her recommendations were spot on. I highly recommend this place for food, ambiance, and service.

Great and creative tapas! Service was great! We asked for wine suggestions and got our own wine paring with each coarse from the Somm! His pairings where spot on. Don't ignore the entrees. The suckling pig was perfect and they split it up for us on two plates.

Our last dinner in Palma was at Forn de Sant Joan. I largely made the reservation on the strength of various 'Top 10'-type of articles, which can be a bit of a gamble - but in this case, it paid off in spades. Even though our reservation was at 7 PM - right when the restaurant reopens for dinner - it filled up quite quickly, albeit it mostly with other tourists as well (I heard German and Japanese amongst the other languages being spooked)...so perhaps not as late a start as other local restaurants get. The service was quick and to the point, with shared dishes (all of them for us) brought out in a thoughtful manner, and with drinks being brought out in quick fashion as well. I had a couple of cocktails here - a basil-infused vodka cranberry, as well as mojito infused with elderflower - that were very refreshing and on-point. My wife's glass of red was very aromatic and paired well with our food as well.
If you are looking for straight-up traditional tapas here, this might not be the exact place to come. For one, the portions tend to be on the larger side and less of the finger-food bite-sized variety. Additionally, the flavors are a little more interesting, but that works out in a very positive manner. Our first bites were the black angus entrecôte and the octopus, both of which were really good. I enjoyed the very modest red wine reduction that gave the steak a slight hint of sweetness, but the meat itself was juicy and tender, and the thin slices of Parmesan combined with a little bit of rocket made every bite pleasing. The octopus was cooked perfectly, with a good amount of texture but not overly done, with a nice spiced aioli (courtesy of the kimchi infusion) and something resembling slightly thicker mashed potatoes underneath it. Our next plating was the rigatoni pasta dish and the beef cannelloni...while the rigatoni was very good (I enjoyed the caramelized onions imparting a bit of sweetness on the pasta, although it clashed a bit with the truffle), the cannelloni was a revelation. It looks heavy given how drenched it is in melted cheese, but wow - it packs an incredible amount of flavor. The shredded beef inside is very succulent, and it pairs off so well with the truffle-infused melt on the outside. In all, that was probably my favorite dish of my trip here to Palma. Dessert was strawberries filled with creme brûlée - a very unique presentation of a common dessert where you would usually have the opposite (strawberries dotting the brûlée). While the cream was a little sweeter and less caramelized on the top than it would usually be, the ratio of fruit to cream worked very well as a dessert enjoyed bite by bite.
For anyone making a trip to Palma, I would highly recommend making a stop here for a meal. The service is accessible, with most waiters having better knowledge of English relative to other spots we were at. The ambiance is also quite cozy, with 2 levels of seating with low ceilings, wooden slats and mid-level lighting giving it a nice, intimate feel without being crowded at all. Make sure to book a reservation as it does fill up, but it will definitely be worth it!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mattison T.Waco, Vereinigte Staaten481579527. Mai 2016
This was my favorite restaurant during our entire European trip. The atmosphere is so fun and friendly and the food was superb! Definitely get a local wine. The Ribas was amazing. Everything on the menu looked incredible. We tried the ham plate, ham croquettes (my new fave), sea bass entree, and the creme brûlée stuffed strawberries to finish!

My mum and I had dinner here on a Wednesday night in late July 2013. Although we arrived at around 9pm without a reservation, we still managed to get a table, but I suspect this was a stroke of luck, and that larger parties should definitely book ahead in the high season, as almost every other table in the three-storey restaurant was full.
There is no getting around that this is a pretty posh place, and is was brimming with affluent tourists on our visit, which made us feel a bit intimidated, but we received the same attentive and friendly service as everyone else. Before being presented with the food menu, we were given the cocktail menu, and these were indeed very good. We also received a starter of crispy bread chips and black olive and cream cheese padte, which was delicious.
We chose to start with two tapas; mini hamburgers and foie gras with sherry caramel. The burgers were tasty, but nothing special, but the foie was simply divine - we literally sat speechless while devouring it. A serious of caution, however: do NOT have a heavy main if you choose to start with the foie gras. The portion size is enormous, and a large bowl of foie gras (yes, I said large bowl) plus a large main course equals fat consumption overload and an upset stomach causing you to swear of the stuff for a long time afterwards... As we did not realise this (silly Norwegians), we ordered gorgonzola ravioli and lightly seared tuna with teriyaki sauce as our main courses. The tuna was a bit of a let-down, but probably only because it tasted so similar to sushi I have tried before, as opposed to the mind-blowing flavour revelation that was the ravioli. The gorgonzola-filled ravioli was served in a cream sauce tasting lightly of pear (our waiter explained that it contained pureed pears), and topped with a scattering of walnuts and a few splashes of peppermint oil - a true stroke of brilliance which again left us lost for words.
The prices at Forn de Sant Joan are befitting to the level of poshness, and thus a bit higher than most of the other restaurants in the old city of Palma, but it must be noted that the portion sizes are also considerably larger. Apart from making ourselves ill by over-indulging in the excellent food, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this restaurant.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michel C.Niederösterreich, Österreich127.
