Galtres Lodge Hotel

Amazing and quaint bed and breakfast style hotel. Staff was super friendly and helped us carry our luggage up the stairs. Bathrooms were a little small and cramped but they are updating at the moment. They have a restaurant called The Forest with amazing food sourced from the local markets (they serve breakfast lunch and dinner). Right in the center of York so you're within walking distance of everything.

So tiny. Like I mean really tiny...

After our friends' wedding, we were still going to be traveling with the couple and another friend. Again, I did not choose the hotel. I just came along and paid for our room. The room was really tiny: I swear, there was only enough room for the full size bed. On one side there was an armoire, but because of it, there was barely any space on that side of the bed. On the other side, if was I lying in bed, I think I could just stretch my arm and touch the wall. While the room was small, the point is, you're not spending all your time in a room when there is a whole city to explore. Especially since we only had the one night. Plus everything was really clean... and there was wifi.

This place is really central. We were only in York for one night on our way back to London. You're right in the middle of lots of shops and restaurants and a really short walk away from the Minster. We were out past curfew so we had to go to the other entrance to let ourselves in after hours. You have to leave your key with the front before you set out for that night's adventure. The key was sitting on the desk/hostess stand in the entrance... unattended... just there... in the open... yup. In the morning, since we were catching a later train, they let us leave our bags with them so we could get claustrophobic while climbing the Minster.

The breakfast was really nice... no cold buffet like Scotland... unless I didn't see it... but it was a large English with an Americano for me.

This is a great find in the heart of York and staying here really makes you feel like you are home! We were only here for one night and the arrangement was quite last-minute, but the lady at the desk was EXTREMELY nice and friendly, and we wished we could have stayed here for longer! This place has also won an award for Best Breakfast, and if you stay here you can have their wonderful Full english breakfast for free!!! We've had our share of english breakfasts and it may seems as though you can't really do much to spice things up, but their breakfast really was top notch! And as they say, a well done full english can carry you all the way through to afternoon tea!

Our rooms were large, spacious, and extremely clean, comfortable, and cosy, and we even had a wonderful view of the main street of York right outside our window! it was nice to just people-watch at night. Also, right when you step out you are in the center of all the bustle of York! it really is in a prime location :)

They also have a great dinner menu that is decently priced, and if you are a guest at the house there is a discount of 10%. The food was absolutely delicious, and the entire setting and experience was lovely!!

We also had accidentally left a large bag of souvenirs from our travels inside our room, and the staff made it extremely easy and accommodating to mail our stuff back to our flat in London. The entire experience at Galtres was great and I will definitely be back to stay the next time we are in York!

this is a really nice hotel in the centre of york, close to more or less everything in town. the rooms are decorated really nicely and the staff are very very friendly. i reccommend this to anyone having a weekend in York.

it was our first time in york, and we just found this hotel by chance,it was central to everything,the rooms are clean and there is a kettle,tea,etc. there is a flat screen tv dvd,comfy bed,awesome food,friendly and helpful staff ,can,t wait for our next visit,a lovely experience.
