If you are in the Arundel area, want an authentic gastro pub with good food, great service and cultured locals, this is the place.
This is a real pub with culture and heritage. Not something that can be felt by load of marketing people or branding junkies. The food is very nicely done ny a person that evidently knows how to cook. It is not fusion craziness and trendy, just good proper and smart food.
The staff working here are people that know more about the restaurant trade and are not the untrained students that would get a chain.
The decor fits in with the beautiful Tiny Village that Burpham is. If you'd like to see real English countryside at its best in a proper village, this is the place to go. Just driving to the restaurant along the small road to the village will give you a great feel and the restaurant lives up to it.
As somebody who comes to the area or not, I like to come here and it remains what I have always liked about it.
While the food is quite upscale, as are the people, but the prices remain good for what it is. One of my favourite places in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ada C.London, Vereinigtes Königreich26786036422. Aug. 2015
Extremely overpriced but lovely pub which is perfect for a lunchtime pit stop as you walk through the area. Burpham itself is a picture perfect English village. You expect a murder mystery to be happening somewhere around the corner!
The pub is owned by 15 families. They will add an optional £.50 to your bill which goes to a charity pot that accumulates over the course of the year. The 15 families then match the amount and throw a big dinner whereby the recipients are given the money. The four charities are listed on the blackboard as you enter. I love this idea!
The food is pricey but good. However the chips are out of this world. Absolutely delicious!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John G.Brighton, Vereinigtes Königreich81146101119. März 2012Erster Beitrag
Great place for special occasions, but you will need plenty of cash/credit to paay for it. One of the priciest place around.
There is quite a long drive down a tight lanebe warned of oncoming traffic.
Nice surroundings and in a beautiful part of the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Erin B.Vancouver, Kanada220423. Mai 2015
This is a very popular pub for walkers. It was just crawling with them when we stopped in.
We arrived right at the end of the lunchtime rush so didn't have the chance to sample the food, though it looked decent. The staff were friendly, but they were in the middle of clearing up and closing, and their receipt machine wasn't working so the bar was quite disorganised and it took a while to be served.
Was quite nice to have a couple pints in the sun outside on a quiet street. Would visit again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nicholas M.London, Vereinigtes Königreich314722. Feb. 2014
We had burger, fish and chips, BLT, sausages and sticky toffee and a Knickerbocker Glory. Great service, fresh food, atmosphere and true country setting. Best to book, but walk in for outside which was sunny and lovely.

Strange reviews this pub is very busy and very popular, especially with walkers. The village is the kind of place overseas visitors imagine an English village to be, and it is a bit Disney, however it can be forgiven as the pub is fine. Best to park and walk along to river, across the railway to North Stoke, which has an ancient, cold church and air of medieval lonliness about it.
