A favorite of LSE students and professors.
It's a pub with all the usual features. The crowd is very student-heavy, but leaning more toward a graduate-student set rather than undergraduates.
Enjoy!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (ZMAn…)London, Vereinigtes Königreich47031. Jan. 2009
Among the 3/4 pubs (depending on whether you classify the Three Tuns and the Underground Bar differently) in the LSE, I probably like George IV the best. It has more of a classic pub atmosphere and has a proper selection of beers and ales.
It's open to the public, so you'll see more than just students and lecturers hanging out there. But that also means that it is usually full, especially in the evenings near the end of the week. Afternoons are quite quiet though as students and office workers are still away. Food is reasonable but nothing to shout about. Staff are friendly, especially if you get to know them.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chris F.London, Vereinigtes Königreich762531149416. Sept. 2011
It all feels a bit too studenty when you are asked to drink out of weak plastic pints. At least round our Uni we had the tough plastic skiffs to drink from. But then this is a student area and this pub serves some good beer in the flimsy receptacles.
Less busy because there are less students outside term time, but still some talent though #goingtohell.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Whitney R.London, Vereinigtes Königreich2791812613. Nov. 2015
I've been to George IV many times when meeting my friends, LSE alums. It's probably the only occasion I would come here. Don't get me wrong - it's not a bad pub, but I've been to a lot nicer. This pub is one step away from the LSE Student Union bar. The prices are cheap and it's right by the school. I'll probably only go with LSE alums, but hey, that's saying something. :)

Just like it's devoted itself to LSE students as it's always packed with students who hang out after class. Good selection of ales indeed, never tried the food.
The toilet is too small, very uncomfortable and no space to form a queue at the front.
Staff are individual, most of them are very kind and friendly.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Goldst…)London, Vereinigtes Königreich23726. Nov. 2007
George IV is a classic LSE hangout, so its usually overflowing with students between noon and midnight. A few professors can also be found hanging around preparing for class. Not everyone there is a student though, there are a reasonable amount of folks from the surrounding law offices.
They have a decent selection of drinks, and the pub food isn't bad either. I was quite taken with their mushroom risoto until I realized it was the Coven Garden Food co brand and sold at Sainsburys for half the price.
It is actually an ok place to study if you don't like the tomb-like silence of a library but Starbucks is too feisty. In the late morning until mid afternoon its usually quiet, and as long as you buy a beer they'll let you take over a table in the corner. And who doesn't find that their studying is aided by alcohol?
The staff can get overwhelmed by the sheer numbers on Thursday and Friday nights, and it can take a while to make your way to the bar. But they are pretty good about knowing who got there first, and you will get served eventually.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aithne M.Los Angeles, Vereinigte Staaten4761511. Feb. 2011
Every LSE postgrad as a special place in their heart for the George IV. It's not the nicest pub you've been to, but the drinks are cheap and the company is good. And by cheap, I'm talking 1.6 quid for a half pint, 3 for a full pint.

The George IV is a nice little pub. It has four real ales on which seem to change really often and is an excellent venue for LSE students, much better than the rubbish bar in the middle of the campus which doesn't have any real ales at all. The staff can be a little bit unfriendly at times, but the guy who seems like the landlord seems really nice.
