I just want to say how great this place is, I have been here twice and both have been great experiences. When I first walked up and looked at their prices it was a little pricey for me (being a 23 yr old grad student only capable of getting internships) but man was it worth it (expect about 10-15 a person)

I ordered their cheeseburger with just tomatoes; flavor was delicious, proportions are HUGE and perfect for my big appetite. Fries were perfect, and greatly priced at around 10 dollars minus a drink. (sodas are 1.75, unsure of refills but havnt needed one).

Today I got the fetticini alfredo (no meat) and an order of terimisu, although i havnt tried to dessert yet since I had to take it home due to the size of the main course, it looks delicious.

the pasta was probably the best I have had because the sauce was so rich and butter and cheesy, only needing a little bit of salt but was so good. I also go a BASKET of garlic bread (came with the meal) and this cost about 9.5 bucks since I didnt get meat on it, and a soda (1.75) amd the dessert was under 4 bucks.

The service has been spectacular each time, very friendly and there when I need but not always in my face when I dont, that perfect combo of service.

the atmosphere is great, strangely seems open even though its crowded with tables, noise levels arent overwhelming and they accept debit cards (which in this town is a god sent).

DEFINITLY coming back and bringing family and friends. Probably can hold big groups but nothing more than 8 max and even that would probably be hard. Would recommend medium groups (6 to 4) or dates or by yourself. All is accomidated

      THANK YOU GUYS!!

It's a cute little diner where the southwestern decor is really charming.
There is nothing too special about the food but it's great value. My 2-egg special with bacon, home-fries, toast, coffee, and OJ was under $7.

The real star of the show was our server. I didn't catch his name. I know he lives in the Bronx. He reminded me of Guy Smiley so I shall refer to him as that.

Guy Smiley was incredibly attentive, polite, and helpful. He would crack a joke or two and make brunch all that more enjoyable. A happy chap with an infectiously good spirit about him, Guy Smiley absolutely made my day and yes, he has a nice big smile.

I was starved for breakfast, and only knew that I wanted eggs. I decided to try this restaurant where I ordered the Healthy Choice Omelette (egg whites, fresh turkey, broccoli, tomatoes, onions, no mushrooms, served with buttered toast, lettuce & tomatoes) for $11.95. It also comes with your choice of orange juice, coffee, or tea. I preferred orange juice, too bad it had no pulp. The omelette was very light and lived up to its name. I need some spice in my life next time I dine in. I definitely must try the pistachio truffle (pistachio ice cream covered in white chocolate). Great space for a quick bite on a Sunday. There weren't a lot of customers so no wait time on food. I liked the different seating options (main dining area, ground floor, and outdoors). This place is huge. Single bathroom way in the back, one for men and one for the ladies was small.

The boyfriend & I've walked by this place for a few times now and I was always curious to see what's inside and take a look. Finally, we did for Valentine's Day Lunch.

They must be doing something right because the restaurant was filled with customers & a lot of orders and can't forget about the food. Overall, the service was pretty darn good and the food, delicious! top notch!

Eggplant Parmigiana Sandwich - It wasn't too big nor too small, it was just right! I loved how they slapped the cheese on the eggplant and it was a lot of cheese & totally tasty. This was probably one of the best sandwiches I've had so far! Top notch!

Chicken Noodle Soup - I've had better but overall, it was pretty darn tasty. The only thing I have to complain about is that it was a little oversalted, that's all.

Deluxe Mushroom Burger - This burger was alright, I've had better. They should totally have added much more mushrooms and oh my gosh, the beef patty was so thick! The only thing I have to complain is that it lacked a little flavor and seasoning.

So not a bad diner at all, the experience was good. Although there were a few grey areas, I'll still come back here to try some more foods =]

Some days are better than others for breakfast/brunch. Foods ok and quick, but the speed at times can affect the quality.

The prices are a bit high for what you get.

$38 tip included for the food in the pic along with a large grapefruit juice and OJ. If the food was better I wouldn't mind the price, but since it wasn't the cost stings a bit more.

They have a brunch special for $14.95 mimosa or coffee tea or OJ along with your food order.

I would skip this place if I were you.

Fetta tomato omellete, home fries bacon at the bottom and the top California omelette.

note : The Montague St. one in Brooklyn Heights is a lot different than the 7th Avenue Grand Canyon. I am on a first-name-basis with a few of the waiters and staff at the Montague St. one. They are always so nice and give super super great service injected with a personal twist that's mushy without being annoying. (Sometimes they can be too touchy-feely, but if I had a bad day it always makes me feel cheered up that they are so mushy).

That said, the whole reason I even started going here is because I'm a diner whore who is always iso of a great one. (NYC has a lot of dives and gross ones, or just "ok" ones, so I love digging deep until I "discover" the diamond diners-in-the-ruff. This is one of my favorite Brooklyn diners-in-the-ruff., hands down, and I've eaten at many, many diners all over the 5 boroughs, Jersey, Philly and CT-so I'm pretty much a diner nerd/freak/geek who is qualified to consider herself a good judge.

I love their fries here. I don't think they use the non-transfat oil for one, and they use the thick old-fashioned steak fries, which is a receipe for excellence in my book. I could seriously come here and just order a plate of fries and be totally happy---I probably have. The burgers are consisently great, their shakes are decent, their dinner plates are really good and old-fashioned-esque (which is why I have a diner fetish in the first place - I really dig old fashioned stuff), and so are their sandwiches and breakfasts. The worst thing I ever had here was something that just tasted "ok" - I think a salad (?) but it's a diner, so a salad is going to be pretty basic and iceberg-oriented. I'm not mad at it - I'll go to Lassen & Hennings or something if I want a more elaborate salad. Basically I always have a pleasant experience eating here, and I always leave satisfied.

Zoning-out at Grand Canyon is a little tough though because it's usually bustling here, but if I stay after I'm done eating, and do some work at my table when they are not as busy, no one minds---it's just that the people I know here can be really chatty and huggy, so it's hard to focus if you bring some reading or little task to do at the table.

Overall, this diner is on my top 5 for Brooklyn which is probably why I know half the staff and come here so often. It's far superior to Happy Days (across the street) in every way except they don't stay open past 10 or 11pm. I've also eaten at the 7th Ave. one (which it's more of a hole, with a totally different vibe) and the food is not as good, but the Montague St. one is a classic bet.

I've eaten here 2 days in a row.....

Came here on saturday after a brutal bootcamp workout on the bridge...and we were starving.... and it was my friend's favourite spot for breakfast (she's been coming for years)....

The staff is amazing....wow..like genuinely friendly....and really sweet..
Had a delicious spinach/tomato/mushroom/cheese omelet.....with french fries...( I know...I know....what's up with the french fries?....it was my farewell to french fries....since I'm trying to be good and working out...blah...blah)....lol.... They were great.... came out fast..... my juice was always refilled.... my girl's coffee cup was never empty..... and the kindness from the manager was just amazing... felt like he was my uncle by the end of the meal...

So yea..went back on Sunday....and had the same things again (switch out the fries...for some grits this time)..... I'm working on it..ok?!....and no...I didn't have toast or homefries!....hehe... Same great service....and a yummy omelet.... I did not eat for the rest of the day.... (seriously)..... it was that filling....

      Great bfast....fast service....and cheap... like $17 for 2 people....
Plus I really love Montague St....

      A-Ok in my book....

      I'll be back again!!!!

I am notorious for being early.

On occasion, I have been known to arrive up to two hours early for any given appointment.

      It's quite possibly a sickness.

Anywho, on one such occasion, I was mega-early for an early morning meeting at the Department of Education. After strolling around Brooklyn Heights for 30 minutes I thought, "You know what, Ryan. You could be exercising, or you could be eating."

I quickly came to my senses and decided to eat.

Cut to me in the Grand Canyon Restaurant.

Standard diner food - omelets, pancakes, waffles, and so on and so on.

The food (an egg and cheese sandwich with a side of home fries) was diner-great. In other words, it was quite nice, but felt very similar to other breakfasts I've had around the city.

On the other hand, my server was one of the best that I've had at any restaurant in the city. He was attentive, friendly, and fast. He cracked jokes with me ("What do you call a llama on steroids?" "What?" "A really strong llama!" I didn't get it either, but it made me laugh). He was a joy.

Grand Canyon Restaurant is the perfect place to go if you're in Brooklyn Heights up to two hours early for a meeting and you prefer to eat rather than walk around and experience the beauty of this historic neighborhood.

      Bon apetit.

My pops likes to go to this place when I meet him downtown for lunch... and considering my pops (chainsaw beef and potatoes) I would much rather go elsewhere.

I've had quite a few things here, and all I can say is... If you have to go, just stick with eggs, and sadly I can't even vouch for the consistency on that. The burger is always overdone and hockey puckish, BLT is aweful (every ingredient), salads are worse. I once ordered a tuna melt (God I should have known), the bread was soaked in butter!!! Who the hell dips sandwich bread in butter unless its a grilled cheese! Another time... they didn't bring the coffee until the food got there, and that's after asking for it twice.... My favorite was the order of cheese fries.... I mean, how can you screw that one up? Well they managed, home fries with jack instead of fries with cheddar.

Quite possibly one of the worst diners ever. To boot, the place doesn't seem to be clean either. My goodness how do they stay in business. If I can't convince the pops to go elsewhere, I'll just tell him I'm full and bring my own coffee.

This is hands down the best diner in Brooklyn Heights and perhaps in all of Brooklyn or Manhattan.

Clark's usually gets all the hype, but this is the place where IT is at. Great menu, great service, and great prices.
And check out the western pictures on the wall. You have to feel comfortable when you got a picture of Clint Eastwood looking down at you :)

If you are looking for quick and great diner food this is the place to go. Try their omelets for breakfast (or for dinner!) and their burgers for lunch or dinner! You won't be disappointed.
