Hotel Alte Post

The Hotel and Restaurant Zur alten Post is a famous landmark in Krems an der Donau. It is located right on the pedestrian main street near to the medieval Steinertor (town gate). The galleried courtyard is especially spectacular and a great place for a drink in warmer weather (I have previously uploaded pics to Yelp). But now it is December and I decided to eat indoors in the cozy dining room. This dining room dominated by a classic old Austrian tile stove was all decorated for Christmas which only added to the atmosphere. And my food was very good. Their Schweinebraten (roasted pork medallions) are well-known and should be as they were tender, juicy, and flavorful. The Erdäpfelknödel were filling and the warm bacon and cabbage salad was superb. A glass of the wonderful local Kremser wine completed the meal. Though there are many places to eat in Krems, Zur alten Post is certainly one of the most atmospheric and reliable.
