These 8500 square meters of gardens were donated to the city of Seville by monarch Alfonso XIII, in 1911 (they used to be orchards on the grounds of the Real Alcázar). The gardens were named after famed Sevillian painter, Bartolomé Murillo, in 1918.
Along the garden path, Paseo de Catalina de Ribera (named after the founder of the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas), you will find the biggest Magnolia tree you have ever seen. I could sit and look at it all day. GORGEOUS! (There is also a monumental Liana tree deeper in the garden.)
An impressive statue dedicated to Christopher Columbus sits along the Paseo de Catalina de Ribera.
These gardens border the southern edge of the Barrio de Santa Cruz, making for a beautiful entry into this old historic quarter.
There are bike rentals at the southern end of the Paseo de Catalina de Ribera.
The gardens are formal in design, and very flat of terrain, thus they are easily walkable, and accessible to disabled persons.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
