I had the pleasure of being massaged by Amber Shireen at Koan Float and she gave me the most memorable massage of my life. I have traveled here on my honeymoon from the US and wanted to bring some relaxation to my new husband and I. Amber was thoughtful in her questions before our session about any specific painful areas or needs. I told her my focus was to get out of my head and relaxed deep in my muscles. She offered to cleanse my energy with palo santo and I was very interested to try.
The room was dim, calm, clean and peaceful. She carefully massaged my body from head to toe incorporating breathe work, aromatherapy, and reflexology. Amber Shireen is the best masseuse and energy balancer I have ever worked with.
If you are in need of peace, make an appointment at Koan Float. Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Del R.Los Angeles, Vereinigte Staaten2332184512. Aug. 2017
I was given a gift of floating at Koan, for my first float since moving to Amsterdam. It was wonderfully relaxing and insightful.
The business is very clean and tidy, and offer tea prior, and two nice stations to get ready after you're done. The individually studios
have a shower with all the essentials. Overall, the atmosphere is peaceful. Staff was there if you needed them, otherwise they leave you alone to be immersed in your experience.
The location is convenient and nice, for strolling, or grabbing a snack in a cute cafe nearby before or after.
Floating is not something I do on a routine basis, but when it's time for me to go again, I can surely say I'll be returning to Koan. The whole process is easy and rewarding.
Pssttt... really does make an excellent gift ;)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Varia M.Amsterdam, Niederlande932318724. Sept. 2015
This is not a great place for your FIRST floating experience.
If you've done it before, I'm sure it's completely fine. The tanks look pretty standard, the rooms are quiet and relaxed, the lounge area is serene and complete with tea and cookies.
But I had my first experience here and I really think it would have gone a lot smoother with just a TINY bit of reassurance from the staff, either before or after. I was nervous, and even told the lady "I'm terrified", to which she laughed and walked out of the room! I spent the session anxious, tense, and miserable, cursing myself for blowing 40 euro on such an unpleasant experience. I was left to let myself out of the room and the building, and nobody stopped to ask me whether it went well and how I felt.
I found out through my own research that this kind of experience is quite normal for the first time, but if they had taken a second to explain that to me, I wouldn't have been so frustrated and disappointed with the place. I know I probably should try floating again, but I really have no desire to come back to this place.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Billy D.Madison, Vereinigte Staaten31586165517. Jan. 2013
Have you ever "floated like a log" on warm water surrounded by silence and complete darkness?
Go. Now.
It's about €30 for 45 minutes floating. You get a private room, with towels and a robe. They give you additional time for a shower before and after the float because it is super salty. You don't need to bring anything along with.
Afterwards, I felt on top of the world for a couple hours. Soo relaxed. The only thing better would be a massage after.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Laura H.Jackson Heights, Queens, Vereinigte Staaten0417. Juli 2016
This was my first time floating, and I will admit I was a little nervous before I went because I had no idea what to expect. It turned out to be the best part of my vacation in Amsterdam. The lady at the desk was lovely and explained everything to me before I went into the tank. It was so relaxing -- way more than any massage I've ever had. I picked the 45 minute float because it was my first, but I really wish I had picked the 60 minute one because it was such a nice experience. When the time for your float is up, the lights in the tank come on slowly and the lady at the desk tells you gently through the intercom that it's time to get out now. Very nice.
The facilities are spotless and the shower in the room was really nice; I wish I had one like that at home. When you're done with your float, you can sit at the vanity at the end of the hall and fix your makeup and use their hair care products to make yourself a little neater before going back outside.
I'll definitely be coming back here on my next trip to Amsterdam, probably more than once!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Alli K.Amsterdam, Niederlande2842403986. Aug. 2015
A great way to relax assuming you have no claustrophobia issues.place is kept clean and staff is friendly. You can enjoy a cup of tea before or after your float & they have nice quality products for you to use, such as lotions. Make sure to wear your ear plugs so you don't get salt in your ears. I walked out thoroughly relaxed but I won't lie... I prefer a massage instead.
This place is great to experience but I probably won't be coming back.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Rachelle Y.Amsterdam, Niederlande19021334112. Dez. 2014
First float experience will NOT be my last. I was a stressed out knotty mess and after 45 minutes I was like jelly. A relaxed mass of wiggly jelly. My appointment was for a float and a massage and really the massage was pointless. Nothing for him to iron it. I only wish this place was closer. Nothing more jarring than biking back home in the cold after.
One advice - ladies - bring a swim cap. Or bring your own heavy duty conditioner to condition your hair after. 45 minutes of salt water did quite a number on my split ends.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jeremy H.Redding, Vereinigte Staaten032. Nov. 2019
We purchased a package which included a float and massage. Where do I start: The only reason I'm giving this place a 2 Star instead of a 1 star is because it was incredibly clean and the people were friendly, for that I am impressed! Unfortunately, that is where the positive feedback ends. The water in the float was lukewarm at best and mildly comfortable. That defeated the purpose of the place, in that it is suppose to relax you. Lastly, and most importantly the massage was probably the worst I have ever experienced. Please considering going somewhere else if you truly need a quality massage, as I did.

My first Amsterdam massage and float was quite the eye-opening experience. The only knowledge I had of isolation tanks was via that William Hurt movie "Altered States" where he took mushrooms, got into the tank and turned into a primordial blob. Of course I had to try it.
I loved floating in the isolation tank - once I figured out how to turn off the music and the lights, I embraced the quiet and womb-like environment, floating in salty warm water and before I knew it, a voice was coming through the loud speaker to wake me up. Then it was off to my massage.
So, in Amsterdam/Europe? they do things a bit differently then they do in the US - where's there an elaborate tucking of sheets around your naked bod so that nothing pokes out and makes you feel uncomfortable. The massage therapist leaves the room, gives you 5 minutes to yank off your clothes and get on the table and then knocks politely and gets things underway. Here, the massage therapist asks what's up, and then stays in the room while you pull off your clothes and dive onto the table. There's a towel or two to cover up your bum but that's it. I got over it cos I wanted my rub-down but after that I decided to always request a female massage therapist. I did see a male therapist once and he left the room to let me get ready.
Anyway, Wynne was my favorite masseuse at Koan Float. I loved her peaceful energy and she could really had some good shoulder moves - unfortunately for me, she was moving on to become a teacher. I had some other great massages there but you have to reserve well in advance. I think this place is popular with the tourists and is next door to a hotel so there's a lot of traffic. You're tempting fate if you try to get in at the last minute.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Syl M.Xàbia, Spanien1526434825. Juni 2011
I love this place! So tranquil, so professional. Their massages make me feel like new again.
