Wait, best tortilla chips too. I wish they have more variety salsa.

Sigh... portion a bit too big for my weight control. Then again, satisfying. Hmmm...

Although to-go is fine, the serving is different when dining in and a notch better.

This is a South Bay staple ya'll. The tacos are top notch ALWAYS. +green sauce and a Coca Cola for true enjoyment and ultimate satisfaction.

The service is always great because I swear to god, these people are so happy to serve us their delicious food. Every single time I get a warm welcome and big smiles! And I love coming here bc I often see my friends eating here. We all love La Cueva.

The space... inside has some booths for family seating and they also have an outdoor covered space which is nice. Lots of parking so bring all your friends!! There's space for everyone to have a good time :)

This is one of the few Mexican restaurants I've been to in San Jose that lived up to the hype.

I had always heard from my Mexican compadres that La Cueva Mex Grill on Prospect Ave in San Jose was THE premier place to visit if you had a hankering for fine, down home Mexican food. Now, for an authentic Mexican food experience I always go to the various taquerias I know around town and get my fix there but this one has always flown under the radar for me because I just don't live to close to it and I don't want to go out of my way to get Mexican food when I can get it from half a dozen other places that are closer to my neighborhood so I didn't make any effort to try La Cueva.

I was sorely wrong not visiting this place sooner! Today I tried two of their tacos, one carne asada and one carnitas respectively, and I was BLOWN away with how good they were. If you have ever been to Super Taqueria in San Jose then you will have an inkling of what the taco here are like but these are much, much better. They grill the tortilla ( which is of superior quality than Suoer Taqueria's ) and they load it with an ample serving of meat, cheese, avocado and I believe tomatoes or salsa for more flavor and an overall picture-perfect presentation.

The veritable cherry on top of all of this honest-to-goodness South of the Border fiesta is a special hunter-green salsa which I'm certain is an in-house creation. It has subtle heat, adequate spicy goodness, a peppery kick to it and adds a whole new dimension to the tacos. 2 were enough to fill me and I am a MASSIVE man!

La Cueva merits your business as a fine establishment that serves uo good food well! I will come here soon to see if the rest of their offerings is as good as their delicious tacos!

My daughter was craving for burrito so we end up coming to this place. Service was fast, place was clean, but she didnt like her burrito. I love my tacos though. They have outdoor seating so your pet is allowed to come.

First word come to my mind. WOW.

Here is my scoring card for this restaurant:

1) Location: ( 5 Point ) - Great location for customer to see and find. Great parking for street parking and back side with parking lot parking.

2) Decoration : (2 Point) - They still have the original decoration. Clean but not up to date.

3) Price: ( 4 point)- The price is competitive but still a little bit pricey compare to other same stars and type food they serve

4) Quality and Taste : ( 3 point)- The quality is ok, food taste is good and portions are below average .

5) Type of cuisine standard : ( 4 point) - The style of Mexican food they serve is pretty close to the way it was prepare in Mexico. Not bad! But some dishes did have slightly modify to cater the customer's need

Overall it's not bad and I thinks it's great to give it a try and let me know what you think. Go foodies

It's always a yes to La Cueva!

The staff here are so friendly and we love the food every time. I don't say that lightly either considering how many great Latin / Mexican spots there are around SJ.

Sea bass Tacos 10/10: Super soft, almost a shrimp like flavor in the form of a delicious fillet.

Chicken Tacos 9/10: Cooked just enough to perfection and juicy!

Shrimp Taco 9/10: sweet and spicy Cameron, some other spots in Santa Clara *cough* don't do a good job of this, but La Cueva knocks it out of the park.

I work in the area and hands down this is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants!

I usually get a wet burrito whenever I go to a Mexican restaurant. La Cueva knows how to do it right. They have delicious red or green sauce you can have. If you aren't sure which one to choose, you can have both! They also always have the perfect ratio of meat, beans, cheese and guacamole. I also love their green salsa. If you really like spicy, you can ask for their off menu "Diablo" salsa. They also offer all the other types of Mexican dishes that you would expect. One other thing they have are fresh fruit Frescas. I've gotten one before and it was very good and refreshing.

They have great service here. This is a family owned restaurant and it really feels that way. I used to go in there often and some of my coworkers were there all the time. They got know us and they'd joke around with us and everyone would have a good laugh! They make you feel like family and we love to support a small local family business!

Ambiance/Area: 3/5
This restaurant is located in the back unit of a strip mall. They do have some outdoor seating as well. The ambiance is average, nothing special. There is nothing interesting to see outside and there is not a ton of seating inside. This is mainly just because of the actual size of the restaurant. It is cozy and comfortable though. But, because of the size, the lines can get pretty long during the rush. This usually wasn't a problem for me though, because we would call our order in ahead of time and pick it up to go.

If you are in the area and want some great Mexican food, you have to make a stop here! You won't regret it!

I really enjoyed this hole in the wall. it's very clean and friendly. The flavors are unique and definitely homemade. I did not love love the green salsa that came with the chips. It's too watery for chip dipping...however, it worked better on my enchiladas. The only other thing I did not love love is the enchiladas are made with flour tortillas instead of corn. I think that should have been noted on menu. If I would have known, I would have ordered something else. I'm a corn girl unless, I'm eating a veggie super burrito. Just sayin'. Very beautiful presentation on the plate.
The food is very clean tasting and not heavy greasy which we enjoy. Now you know. Go enjoy:)

The food here is
I go out of my way to come here. Best Mexican spot in San Jose. The cane asada wet burritos, fish tacos, and tamales were all delicious.
Strongly suggest trying this spot if you haven't already.

Still my fave Mexican place in the South Bay. Super affordable prices, complimentary chips and the BEST green salsa you'll ever eat.

I always ask for extra and they are usually accommodating. My fave dishes here usually are the tostada salad (comes with a fried tostada with refried beans at the bottom), and the fish tacos. My husband always gets his usual, the chicken burrito. He says the burritos here are the best he's ever had.
The salad is super fresh and comes with a variety of sauces, even chopped mango salsa and finished with guac on top. This is my go to Mexican place - and this is coming from someone who doesn't even like Mexican food to begin with. I'm sold!
