After spending the day on South Beach, I was looking for something a bit upscale and was planning on eating Italian food. However, I was strolling down Washington Avenue with my girlfriend and for some reason this place caught my eye. After reading some glowing reviews on my phone, we tried the place out.
The first thing I noticed was the menu had many interesting rolls. Perhaps this is Miami, but I was a bit surprised, and further surprised by the fact that many of the rolls seemed to come with either cream cheese or scallions?! This certainly is not typical, but once we got past this, it was all smooth sailing. We ordered the California, Caterpillar, Rainbow, Kissing and the California Eel Roll. The size of the sushi was surprisingly large and was fantastic.
All in all, having had good sushi in New York, Vancouver, Seattle, California, etc; I can say that without a doubt, this is amongst the better options if you aren't going for the absolute best or priciest sushi out there. The only reasons I give this restaurant 4 stars is the massive menu and the rather strange combinations which are a bit less than traditional for my liking.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 957136472725. This was an odd and unique discovery. While searching for another highly rated sushi place, we couldn't quite remember the name, so we wrongly assumed this was the place we were looking for.
What a pleasant mistake ! Service with a smile, we have become pseudo regulars here.
Well priced, generous and fresh rolls, everyone in our party is always satisfied by their choice.
Not sure if they are still running the special, but if you check in on Yelp you will get 10% off your bill.
Check it out, you may find that made the same mistake we did, and we like it.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 17. Dez. 2011
After a wretched morning saying Goodbye to my best friend we were walking on Washington with heavy hearts and in need of "comfort food".
Of course this means something to the effect of SUSHI! Our go to place was closed because it was early, so we kept on walking and came across Maiko. Our daughter had lived on the beach for a year so we called her to get the 411 on this place, she didn't answer so of course we Yelped it. We saw the reviews our favorite Yelpers Eve and JL posted and figured it was a great place to try.
It was not full which was nice considering my mood, we sat by the window to people watch and a very nice server took our drink order - Iced Green teas.
Perusing over the menu we were at a loss as to what to order there was so much! We skipped our regular easy "hey lets go with a boat" because I was more in the mood for rice aka. rolls.
We decided upon 2 miso soups and 4 different rolls. We ordered four expecting tiny rolls (they ranged from $6 - $9) and were surprised when 3 of the rolls were gargantuan and the 4th the eel a good size. I was happier than a pig in mud.
The miso soup was delicious full of goodies, not just a broth, I love the green onions, tofu and seaweed so having more than a sliver made me happy. So we had an Eel Roll, California, Cha Cha and Spicy Krab. LOVED them all and for two people we actually brought home enough to snack on later.
I can honestly say that this is currently my favorite Sushi on the beach! MMMMmmm it what I needed that day to lift my mood.
The cops stopping a dude that looked like Jessie Pinkman in a beat up car, spending the whole time we were there searching his car, arresting him and his friend and yes the Cops were hi-fiving each other - was quite entertaining and kept my mind off the aforementioned sad event.
I can honestly say that I liked it so much I can't wait to return. With a tip it only was about $50! Can't go wrong with that (oh yes we had ordered a 5th roll to go for our other daughter at home)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Hannah S.Colonial Penn (Brm), Vereinigte Staaten012922. Juni 2013
The food was poor. I ordered chicken teriyaki. For $15, I was expecting an identifiable piece of chicken breast that was grilled and nicely sliced. Instead, I received little shreds and bits of boiled chicken with a funky taste... kind of like dog food. The sauce was pale, salty, and very watery. The vegetable medley was soggy and lackluster. Even their miso soup was below average. Meh.
Sidenote: Their delivery woman was pretty incompetent. She went to the wrong apartment twice. I had to go down to the lobby and hope that she was still there.
Would. Not. Order. Ever. Again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Luisa C.Fort Lauderdale, Vereinigte Staaten121824747529. Nov. 2011
I like this unpretentious yet well organized restaurant. It is located on busy Washington Avenue which makes you think that its pricey and not customer oriented. Well, that is not the case here. The service was great.
My friend Ute L. took me along twice and last time around I forgot to review it, not sure why...I guess its never too late.
I ordered the vegetarian dish of veggies (bok choy, onion, broccoli, fresh mushrooms, snap peas, sprouts) paired with perfectly sized and sauteed tofu. The portion was more then enough for 1 person. At $8.95 you can't go wrong with this. You can order brown rice on the side. Pretty neat.
I also realized that they sell Mochi Ice Cream here as well... I guess I got lucky twice!
For $4.25 they serve you a portion enough for 2 people 4 balls of 2 different varieties.
I love the red bean flavor the most.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 24. Feb. 2012
Good food but greedy on the veggies, mostly noodles. Good size portions, decent service, easy location on the main strip.
Fish tank kept kids busy but made me sick to see so many large Goldfish cramped in.

I've been to this place more times than any other restaurant in my four years in Miami- I just love it!!
I usually have an eel roll- I think its the Sunshine roll w/a Kani salad PERFECTION!!! But this last time I tried something new- Tom Gai soup with a side of white rice and a green salad and miso soup YUM-A-ROOOOHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 026. Jan. 2010Vorheriger BeitragWOOHOOO! Oh Maiko.. how I love thee. My FAVORITE to order is: Miso soup, followed by a Kani Salad (so much stuff in it I have no idea but its so good & I gt it with eel sauce on the side) , then finished off with the Sunshine roll (lightly fried eel roll!) OOHH its so much food but its just so good. The prices are decent and the service is decent as well. If I go too long without making it to Maiko I start to get cravings!

Taciturn owner (?) has seen just about everything pass through his doors. We were trying to catch up with Don't-Care-As
-Long-As-It's-Food's volleyball team for dinner there, and he didn't even remember them except as one man with eleven girls. I guess we should have described them as a pimp with an underage entourage! Unagi don, fish, and lobster teriyaki good, but overpriced.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Monica S.Jacksonville, Vereinigte Staaten4132128413506. Feb. 2012
On nights when I'm looking for a no frills, downhome sushi experience (and Doraku feels too schmancy), I opt for the Washington Ave, Maiko. This satisfying sushi spot hits all the right notes when it comes to those craveable rolls. From the traditional sashimi to the Americanized funny named roll creations, there's a veritable ocean of options here.
All the South Beach locals know this spot to be one of the more authentic locales and say you're in the mood for Korean food, they cater to those Seoulful seekers as well.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Tal T.Miami, Vereinigte Staaten3273405925. Feb. 2011
Maiko is my favorite sushi restaurant on the beach!
It doesn't have the happy hour of Doraku or the ambiance of Sushi Samba, but Maiko brings the fresh when it comes to the fish.
As I lingered between four stars or five, I thought about the buttery yellowtail sashimi, the crispy tempura flakes on the kama kase roll, and the perfection of the seaweed salad... and I couldn't hold back. I've visited and ordered delivery on multiple occasions, so I'm ready to award Maiko the top honor.
They have a huge menu which includes fully cooked sushi, plenty of vegetarian options, and hot noodle entrees, so even the pickiest of eaters should find something that delights their palates. Lunch is a breeze with several generously well priced combinations.
One last food shout-out for the King California (yes, that's Alaskan King Crab). The addition of spicy mayo and a crisp piece of lettuce complete this roll, which takes the sushi standard where it should have always been. I promise, you will never hate the California Roll again.
Service in the restaurant is more than adequate and delivery is fast.
Bottom Line: Well, it's the best sushi on the beach!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
