So I've got a dollar-to-quality rule I generally follow when it comes to eating in restaurants. When it comes to certain cuisines, like Chinese or Italian, I generally abhor paying premium prices for. Others, like French, shouldn't be bought on the cheap. Similarly, I'd rather shell out for great Japanese than eat cheap sushi.
Of course, I also have another life rule that the wife is always right.
Thus we dined at Matsuri, a conveyor belt sushi restaurant and Parisian chain. We had stumbled across Matsuri earlier in our trip on the way to Kotteri Ramen Naritake (http://www.yelp.com/biz/kotteri-ramen-naritake-paris#hrid:fdxCooJ1jjFw1143gjmppA). We'd never done conveyor belt sushi before, but the appeal of picking and choosing clearly lit up the wife. I found it somewhere in between the dreck of a sushi buffet and the cheap happy hour touting $1 sashimi. That is: you get what you pay for.
All things considered, Matsuri actually wasn't bad. Prices were a little steep, even after noting that tax and gratuity were included. Quality wasn't terrible, either. Nothing jumped out as great, but I recall preferring the non-sushi dishes.
Sure, I'd have preferred dining at one of the nicer sushi joints in the area, but the food came out quick, and the evening was kinda fun. When it comes to dining, food quality reigns supreme for me, but there's something to be said about playing with your food. And that is: if your wife wants to do it, tis best to oblige.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - jamie y.APO, Vereinigte Staaten0913. Nov. 2013
meh...over priced, and no that good. Servers were nice, and I like that they use organic rice, but 5 euros for 4 small pieces of tekamaki? a bit much.
