Modern Touch

Chapel Market area is filled with cheap nail salons. I had tried one time to go to one of them on Chapel Market and the service was so bad that I gave up and that is when I discovered Modern Touch. £20 spa pedi by good technicians...speedy, precise and friendly. What more could you ask for in the low budget nail category?

Modern Touch is a little tiny place, off the busy streets around Angel that does a decent job of getting your nails in tip-top shape.

Popped in on a busy Sunday - lots of people getting their nails varnished! Only got a gel/shellac manicure and the guy who did it did a good job.

I only give 3 stars because while there were lots of nail technicians, I found that not many spoke English and trying to explain what I wanted was a bit difficult. Even trying to describe a colour was a bit tricky. Also, was a little concerned about how clean every thing was - not sure what their process was for sanitizing the tools were... at one point it looked like they were using the same cuticle clipper things on different people before cleaning them.

Do NOT go here if you are on any sort of schedule. They just do not have an appointments system. I have tried it all ways. Booking. Walk in. And never waited less than 15 minutes to be seen. Appointments are irrelevant. Walk ins are given unrealistic wait times. If the treatment is a pedicure, you taken through to the workstation and left sitting for another long time. So now late and with wet feet.
Asking about wait times is not an easy experience the supervisory staff are short and defensive. Lin in particular is rude and condescending. Offensively so.
But the actual treatments are great. The nail technicians are lovely and do really good work and are fast (which is just as well as there will always be people waiting!)
If you can stand the hassle and stress of getting to the treatment then go for it. If you want efficient service then try one of the other nails bars nearby. There are a few.

I have been going to Modern Touch for 3 years, and I do not know what has happened to the place but it has definitely gone down hill. They seem to have hired a bunch of new technicians, none of whom know how to give a mani/pedi. My past 3 manicures there have been utter failures, I will not return, and I write this in the hopes that they change back their ways.
To give an example. I went on Sat for a regular pedi and a gel manicure. I booked for this. My appointment began 20 minutes late, the woman giving me a pedicure cut my cuticles so much I was bleeding, and she did not seem to think this was a big deal at all (it was, it hurt).
A different woman gave me my manicure. I do not think she understood what a gel manicure was (which is pretty ridiculous) as she put normal base coat on underneath the gel. I later learned that regular nail polish takes 24 hours to fully dry. Because of this, my nails are still tacky, and started chipping on Sunday. Also, the polish is not smooth with 'pockets' where presumably the polish underneath has pooled.
Additionally, I think they have started making up their prices, as the £52 it costs for these two procedures did not match up to anything published in their leaflets. Quite disappointed as I used to love this place, but I look forward to trying out some of the other places that have popped up around here and offer much more competitive pricing and range of services...if anyone has a suggestion, please let me know!!

The customer service was amazing. They did a great job on my nails and I will definitely be back. I got my overlay soaked off and redone and got an all natural pedicure and the prices were super reasonable and the shop is really clean and inviting.

I am new to area and a student so wanted good quality at a cheaper price - this place was perfect. The place itself is nice and they offered me water, tea, coffee, etc. I got a gel manicure and regular pedicure. The woman was very detailed and did a GREAT job on my nails. This place is CASH ONLY. (Gel manicure: 25 pounds, regular pedicure: 21 pounds) For someone looking for a good manicure at a reasonable price in Angel area, I would definitely recommend it.

They are super quick and actually pretty good! They only take cash - so don't forget! Gel manicure/pedicure ~£58 Sometimes you still have to wait if you book an appointment but then you can usually walk in off the street and they'll find time for you. I'd go back again!

I booked a pedi last minute today at Modern Touch thanks to the reviews here. I wasn't disappointed! Really good value for money, the service was great and the work they did on my feet was flawless! It really made my day... Recommended!!
