There isn't much competition when it comes to fine dining around Carmarthen. There are a lot of really good pub grub options but the lack of competition for something a bit more special usually means a whopping price tag. Not with this place. Their seasonal set menu (a choice of 5 dishes per course) is amazing at £25. Fresh ingredients. Beautifully presented and a good variety. We were (pleasantly) surprised to discover is was BYOB too, making it really accessible.
The salmon with a savoury panacotta was a little disappointing as it was really just a cream cheese but the salmon and salsa were actually some of the best I've ever had. So on balance, I can't complain. The mullet was cooked to perfection and the sanfire wasn't too salty or chewy at all. It really was super delicate and had a subtle aniseed taste from the complimenting herbs that worked so well. My friend's pork came with a crackling straw that somehow managed to be tender but crispy and yet still havr a little chew with no grease. Super impressed. The atmosphere however is unpretentious, unhurried and acommodating. The decor isn't amazing but it's pretty enough for a date and informal enough to go with friends. The music was good and not too loud or too quiet (which I am normally sensitive to). All in all a really good place.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
