The big screen at Odeon's Leicester Square is a converted old theatre, so there is ample seating, a huge screen, and great surround sound (7.1). It truly is one of the larger screens, so wonderful for action flicks.
The downside, though, is that the workers show individuals to their seats using very bright flashlights. So being on the aisle, we had a bright light flash in our eyes at least 5-10 times during the previews.
My only other complaint is with the previews, though this is with Odeon overall. There were 14 minutes of commercials, 10 minutes of movie trailers, then 2 more minutes of commercials prior to the movie starting. So our 8:15 movie actually began playing at 8:41.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Leza S.London, Vereinigtes Königreich248423624. Okt. 2015
I went down to the Odeon Leicester Square for the Ed Sheeran's Jumpers For Goalposts film premiere. The front of the building was covered in a massive Ed Sheeran poster, and there was a green carpet with a huge black 'X' by the entrance.
Inside there are hundreds of seats up and downstairs with lots of ushers to show you to your seats. There was free popcorn and bottles of water on each seat. There was no wifi available at all, nor on previous occasions when I've attended. The screen is huge but if you are seated to far left or right at the end of the rows you might get neck ache. I sat in standard seating which was reasonably comfortable. If you visit the Ladies toilet you'll find queues as there are only a few cubicles.
Reggie Yates introduced Ed Sheeran on stage, did a brief interview and them an amazing mini concert much appreciated by the crowd. They then showed the film which was brilliant especially if your an Ed Sheeran fan. Even if you're not, the film was funny and entertaining throughout and had interesting sporadic guest appearances.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ally H.London, Vereinigtes Königreich611182214. Urg!!!
Why did I not listen to my instinct?! Why?!?
Worst cinema experience - and I'm not exaggerating.
First off all the movie I wanted to watch had stopped screening and the nearby cinemas weren't showing it either so my friend and I decided to catch another film to kill some time.
Tickets were £14. £14 for a non 3D film. I should have walked away then. Extortionate prices!
The film we chose was showing on a 'Standard Screen' instead of the 'Premiere Screen' and I thought that was fair enough but....
... Standard screen my ass!! The screen (please see picture) was so small - my old high school had bigger screens than that.
Anyone sitting in front of you blocked your view as the cinema isn't sloped upward and we couldn't move seats as they'd decided to ruin my cinema experience just a little more by closing off a few rows of seats.
The film started 40 mins after scheduled time. Is that normal?
All the way through the movie you could hear the soundtrack from the film next door.
After the movie, had to use the toilet along with half of the people in the 50 seat theater and then saw there were only 2 toilets and a very long line.
Never again. Smells of tourist trap all over. I should have known better.
Film was shite too. Ha ha ha *cry*Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Maro T.London, Vereinigtes Königreich157525127. März 2016
we went to see 'batman vs superman' and payed £20 per ticket - non premium seats btw - the cinema is really big and has stalls upstairs where you can order food and drinks to your seat.
most of the seats are covered with a leopard fabric- cheesy 90's vibe. it was freezing in the movie theater, maybe they switched on the air condition in march?! the restrooms are very dirty and there were no paper towels at all in the ladies toilet. the restroom for men was out of use and urine covered the whole ground. after the movie the theater was covered in popcorn and soda drinks on the ground - it seems like no guest knows how to behave nowadays.
sound was okay and the image was good.
in the end - it's not worth the price and not acceptable for this location. just imagine the big 'hollywood premieres' in a movie theater like this..
if you have the money go for the BFI IMAX.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cheri A.Los Angeles, Vereinigte Staaten1223158342398. Jan. 2009
After a couple days of showing my son around London we decided to take a much needed break and head the the cinema and see The Black Knight.
The price of a good seat is £19.00 which at the time meant about $40 USD but you had a specific seat so that was nice.
I really wasn't that impressed with this place. It was really no better than any other place and the only real difference is it is huge and there is a balcony.
I would say check it out once just to say you have but I would never spend the money to come here again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Melania P.London, Vereinigtes Königreich1022027130. Nov. 2008
The Odeon in Leicester Square is supposed to have the biggest screen in London, I'm not sure if that's true, but I've been told this repeatedly, so until I learn otherwise I'm going to accept that as true. There are things I really like about the Odeon in Leicester Square and things I really hate.
The things I like are that the screen is big, the staff is friendly, and I can reserve my seat. The seat reservation is a real perk because for popular films you don't have to get there an hour early for a good sit. A little planning ahead and you get to pick the perfect seat and show up just before the film begins.
I things I hate about the Odeon Leicester Square is that the tickets are £13.50 for a show after 6:00 pm, that's £5 more than the Odeon in my neighbourhood. The second thing I hate is that seats are so close together that you are almost sitting on top of the person next to you and you have zero leg room. If you can plan to sit at the end so you can stick your legs out of the aisle, if you can't, be prepared for your legs to go numb and your knees to hurt.
I know the screen is big, but there are cheaper and more comfortable theatres and I would rather save my £5 for popcorn and enjoy the film feeling my legs.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nickie C.London, Vereinigtes Königreich14145639013. Feb. 2015
I really don't like this cinema!
There are quite a few variables that make it hard to review. If you are talking about the main big screen, the stalls are awful. Awful awful awful. The seats are small and uncomfortable, and there's not much leg room. And when you figure these tickets are £17 a person, it's crazy. I only ever go when I have free premiere tickets! I have before been lucky enough to get seats up in the Royal Circle, which are more comfortable and give you a better view - but for £23 a ticket, I would rather stay home!
The other small screens in what they call Studios (it used to be called Mezzanine, and I'll probably always call it that...) are much more comfortable but teeny tiny (they seat around 50 people), but at least you might have enough change to splurge on a popcorn. Tickets here are £13.
The upstairs balcony to view out on to Leicester Square is cool, and having gone to a number of premieres here, I have plenty of good memories, which is the only saving grace in my eyes.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brian C.Pinner, Vereinigtes Königreich13244628817. Feb. 2015
This one of the big cinemas on Leicester Square - so for that privilege, you'll have to pay through the nose for a ticket.
So what do you get for that experience? Not a lot - this cinema is old - especially for the area. In what I presume is a selling point for premieres, there are far too many tiny seats crammed into the main screen. I basically wedge myself in there. As for legroom, that's pretty much the worst legroom I've ever had at a cinema.
Seriously, until the top all those seats out and remove five rows to give the rest some normal space, I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you manage to wrangle some free tickets. But even then you'll be paying in discomfort.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sam O.Paris, Frankreich17035611234. März 2015
It is my first time coming to this cinema for the main movie (only 1 movie is screening in the main theatre)
I never get to go there before because the movie never suited my taste.
The seats are old (and i started to scratch myself as soon as i sat) and with a leopard motif, that is so outdated and kitch. Not much of leg room too.
17£ for the cheapest ticket and it can go up to 23£ when you sit at the balcony. It is too much of a steal.
Thinking that this is actually the famous theatre that hosts most of the London movie premieres is dramatic. The screen is very small for such a huge place and they really need to renovate this theatre asap!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lizzie S.London, Vereinigtes Königreich1791100612594. Mai 2011
Okay I will start this review with context. I have just had my bike nicked, I'm in a pretty shitty mood so I have searched Yelp for a business that I have been meaning to 1 star for a while to vent on.
This place is a rip off. Excuse me but paying £55 for 3 tickets is criminal. Seriously, I would expect Brad Pitt to come out the screen and kiss me (with tongues) to make this value for money. No cool seats, the screen... mah, I've seen bigger, the staff... not the brightest, I had to repeat myself a few times. I know they show premiers here so if you get off on sitting in a seat where some famous person once had their bum bum then go for it. But apart from that, i'd forget it, wait a few months and go to The Prince Charles around the corner for a snip of the price.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0
