I enjoyed this place immensely.
In my walk back to my hotel, I needed to grab a bite for dinner. Found a fun outside table and ordered a glass of wine. Based on previous yelp reviews, I knew better than to order the nachos, but I didn't want to order a full dinner.
I opted for the fried Camembert app, which arrived with a nice crisp basic salad. The plate had two discs of Camembert, which I found very generous. It was hot, crunchy and crisp and the berry sauce they came with went perfectly with them.
The waitstaff was very friendly: disclaimer, I do speak fluent, native German so that may help a bit. But they were very easy going when I asked to move to get out of the plume of cigarette smokers.
Price was reasonable and I left full and happy!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 27. Apr. 2014
I actually got lost looking for this place. I'm a damn tourist that doesn't know how to read street signs, let alone have a sense of direction whatsoever. A bartender recommended Oma's but we misunderstood what he said so we walked around in circles until we found it. The place was packed even on a weeknight so we knew it was good.
The food is surprisingly good and cheap too. I ordered the schnitzel with bacon. Everything is good with bacon! It came with potatoes and lots of bacon. It was quality food for under €10. You should come here with a big appetite because the Germans are known for serving huge portions.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Manuel K.New York, Vereinigte Staaten224414. Sept. 2015
The food is very good and the price cannot be beaten! The plates are huge, so don't order a big starter. If you do, I wouldn't choose the nachos, they literally just put them on a plate and fill three different package-sauces in bowls... meh.
I ordered a tiramisu after my big "Schnitzel-Burger" with fries and even that was huuuge! And delicious as well! ;)
Crowded literally everyday at everytime! No matter if you wanna have breakfast, lunch or diner! So the sound level is really high and you have to speak loudly to your counterpart.
But it's definitely worth to wait a short time to get a free seat. Reservations aren't possible, it's a typical "Kneipe", but a really good one!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dominika J.Altona, Hamburg331496417. Juli 2018
I like the ambiente very much, never eaten there though, only nachos and it was very average. The beer is shots are nice!

I love going to Oma's Apotheke when I'm hungry - the menu selection is wide and the prices are affordable, I've never left Oma's Apotheke hungry and have always enjoyed everything they've put in front of me.
Oma's Apotheke is on the corner of Schanzenstrasse, opposite the S-bahn station, which makes it very central and a great place to meet friends for a bite to eat. The large tables allow larger groups to sit together, when we're there we normally fill up a table or two (and all manage to find something on the menu, including the veggies!).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alistair H.Berlin54673183919. I've been coming to Oma's ever since I came to Hamburg, and it's one of my favourites. They do a mean steak, huge burgers and good frühstuck (continental breakfast).
They also show the football sometimes (see if you can spot the screen, it's very well hidden). The beer is a bit pricey, but it's more of a restaurant than a bar..Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - A K.Bromley, Vereinigtes Königreich14550222. Jan. 2014
Cheap, cheerful, and even though it was ragingly busy late on a Friday night, the waitresses got us our food hot and all together after only a reasonable wait. Very popular, quite loud, pleasant décor, often packed.
Guinness on draft, Duckstein available, and some of the best schnitzel I've had in Germany. My dining companions also felt very happy with the potato skins and the cheeseburger they ate. Absolutely recommended.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Qype User (filcha…)Kopenhagen, Dänemark305829277828. Sept. 2007
I went to Oma's Apotheke (which is not a chemist!) for the first time last night. I was really pleasantly surprised. I've always previously crossed the road to Franck und Frei, but I have to say, the steak in here is even better. Lashings of absolutely delicious creamy pepper sauce, with great thin cut fried potatoes instead of fries (you can have either), and quick service considering how busy it was. My friend had the salad which was also huge, and neither of us finished despite going in hungry. Definitely worth a look.

Charming restaurant on the Shanze. I had the Trucker schnitzel (featuring two fried eggs) and just about managed to finish it - very tasty.
The decor of the old Apothecary adds a nice atmosphere and its particular warm and cosy in cold weather with the hot water pipes lining the edge of the room.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
