Penhelig Arms Hotel & Restaurant

The Penhelig is the more upmarket eatery in Aberdyfi with local seafood on the menu and a restaurant booked up well in advance, especially in summertime. But, if you can get a table, it's well worth a visit. Choose either the bar or the restaurant and be treated to some of the finest food and wine to be served in Mid Wales.

The Penhelig is one of those places that doesn't have to shout about how good it is, it just knows it. It is the best fish restaurant for miles around. You've got a choice - depending on how flush you feel - between the bar and the restaurant. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, and the word discreet springs to mind. It's very quiet, there's a fixed menu and the service is great. I found it too quiet and felt that the people that were there (mostly the retired, monied folk that live in Aberdyfi) were taking their food experience a bit too seriously. Much better to go to the small but livelier restaurant in the bar. It's cheaper, and it's the same excellent quality. The atmosphere is better too. It's quite small though and always popular so I'd recommend booking at least a week in advance if you want to eat on a Friday or Saturday night.
