Podium

Aufgefallen ist mir das Podium zum ersten Mal vor 5 oder 6 Jahren. Ich spazierte an einem angenehm warmen Endsommerabend die Westbahnstraße entlang und plötzlich war dieses gemütlich aussehende Lokal mit seinen Schaufenstern da.

Eine ziemlich einfach aufgestellte Bar inmitten des Lokals, trennt den vorderen Essbereich mit dem hinteren Loungebereich. Die Couches die im hinteren Teil stehen, sind sehr bequem und bieten einen wunderbaren Flair für eine gemütliche Gesprächsrunde bei einem guten Achterl Rot. Die Speisekarte ist eine kleine aber feine. Die Küche versucht ständig ihre kreative Ader zum Vorschein zu bringen, und größtenteils gelingt es ihr auch.

Der Essbereich im vorderen Teil des Lokals ist mit Plastikstühlen ausgestattet. Und diese Stühle sind die unbequemsten der ganzen Stadt. Was man den Betreibern aber hoch anrechnen muss, sie bleiben standhaft. Seit Jahren stehen diese schon im Lokal und deshalb ist der vordere Bereich seit Jahren ungemütlich. Alles was im hinteren Teil an Gemütlichkeit erarbeitet wurde, wird vorne innerhalb von 5 Minuten sitzen schon zunichte gemacht. Ich verstehe wirklich nicht wie diese immer noch da sein können, setzten sich die Chefitäten nie auf ihr eigenes Mobiliar?

Über das Podium kann gesagt werden: abends auf den Couches äußerst gemütlich und bequem, im Sommer im Schanigarten das gute Essen konsumieren, doch wenn dieser schließt, sollte das sehr gute Mittagessen sehr schnell gegessen werden.

Nice, modern cafe, coffee shop, and bar. Windows open to the street and generous outside seating. Very friendly staff, fluent in English. Fast, free wifi.

Very good coffee. Food is also good but a little expensive. There are always vegetarian choices, clearly marked.

I was in Vienna for a week and this was my go-to place for coffee and Internet connection.

My boyfriend and I were in Austria this May, and looking back on our trip we both agree that our dinner at Podium was the best we had. The decor was unpretentious and comfortable (who could complain about cozy couches at dinnertime?), the food was delicious (we both had a chicken in pepper-cream sauce special, while a friend of ours had an Asian-inspired pork belly), and the service was warm and friendly without being pushy. None of the three of us spoke much German, but as it was a slowish evening, the waitress and chef both came out to chat, as well as to explain the menu. It felt like hanging out at a friend's place. If my travels bring me back to Vienna (which I certainly hope they do), we'll be back to Podium.

Nice place to chill out , cosy and comfortable couches behind the bar just near the kitchen but it doesn't really disturb, the menu is not really special , price of dishes does not reflect the quantity / quality expected, I would rather go just for drink there instead of eat.


Still nice place to visit that's just near the photography museum

Café Latte served with a glass of water (see pic), without me asking. Now that would never happen in my hometown and gets them 4*'s at once. For the rest: because of the high ceiling the perfect place to chat after you visited the nearby Leica store or Photography Museum.
