We got the Pilmeni. It tasted good but nothing too fantastic. Service was good. Probably would not return as food was not my favorite.

This restaurant is a lovely little gem tucked away in the Neustadt. We'd been given the recommendation from a local and it was spot on. I had the pelmeni mix which is a kind of little dumpling. It was perfect. I might had made the sweet potato one a touch sweet but that's just me. Order yourself a local white wine and you are set. I also recommend going for lunch because dinner time is very crowded and it's hard to get a table.

Everything I could have hoped for in a late lunch/early dinner in Dresden. Located on a quiet street with the sign on the edge of the building, I took a couple steps passed before realizing I missed it. Mid week there were signs on the tables for evening reservations, but luckily we were there early enough to beat the crowds. Small to medium interior, friendly service, a nice limited menu. Smells and sounds from the kitchen really add to the experience, and local beers to pair with fresh ingredients of the meals. I had the vegan curry. It was out of this world. Seriously, delicate but immense flavor, perfectly prepared jasmine rice, and pumpkin seeds on top. My boyfriend had a wild boar wurst which was awesome, as were the sides.

Excellent: great beer from Bohemia and best spinach salad ever. Ate while waiting for laundry at the coin laundry which was very close.

A small but very charming eatery tucked away from the "hip" area of Neustadt. We were lucky to snag a table of 2 on a busy Sunday evening as we observed many people not able to get a table. Making reservation highly recommended.

The patrons were mostly locals with a few of us tourists who did our research online to find this place. Fitting with its neighborhood surroundings, Raskolnikoff is hip with the walls covered indie (?) artwork and specialty dishes written on panels of chalkboard, coat rack serving as a display for magazines/newspapers, pretty hanging lamps almost for every table, etc. Great place for romantic dinner as well as gathering with (a small group of) friends.

The exposed kitchen immediately provided us with the delightful smell of warm comfort food, and the taste matched its smell. Their classic dishes, Borscht (red beet soup) and Pelmeni dumplings filled with mushrooms+ricotta or beef+lamb with sour cream, were both very tasty that every bite brought warmths to our hearts (ok, that might just be our bodies warming up after a cold night...but the tastes remained the same). To end our meal with their "Schokomalheur" (warm chocolate cake) fortified us enough to bravely head back out into the cold.

The prices were reasonable (our meals with 2 small beers [kudos for their Raskolnikoff Pilsner] + coffee cost us about 27 EUR), and service was alright.

With a simple expectation of getting a warm meal, I was pleasantly surprised of my experience at Raskolnikoff. If I ever crave Russian food in Dresden, then I know exactly where to go.

Raskolnikoff (and nextdoor Stilbruch) forced me to entirely recalibrate Dresden's hammer factor. Built into a crumbling factory space on a deceptively quiet street, Raskolnikoff would be at home in Berlin, or even New York (and 3 times as expensive in the latter). While apparently Russian, the menu is dominated by traditional German cuisine (including exceptional Pfannkuchen and Käsespätzle), and includes a short list of pelmeni. Most impressive, however, may be the space, which includes custom-made furniture and functions simultaneously as an art gallery. Dinner here was delightful, and I wish I had been able to come back for a coffee and kuchen during the day.

During my weekend in Dresden, a group and I ate dinner at Cafe Raskolnikoff. It has a bohemian feel to it - a little art and a little edge. The name comes from a very dark story but don't let that scare you away because the food was delicious.

Our group was large (about 20 people) so we had a set menu but I was still thrilled with our dishes. We started with a carrot soup, which I had never had before but it was very tasty, then had chicken (so tender and flavorful) and rice for our entree. To end, we had a raspberry gelatin dish that was "wunderbar".

The service was great and although we were in a large group they handled us well. I don't know if my life will bring me back to Dresden, much less Raskolnikoff, but it is definitely worth going to if you are in the city!
