After the floods of 2000 it was decided to dam the river Gaunless up stream from West Auckland to prevent further flooding (2004) of the village so a wetlands area in the flood plane of the dam was created. It also follows the route of the former rail line to Ramshaw.
Nice foot paths are provided & the area is well landscaped. Unfortunately this visit was during the winter so not alot of wild life could be seen. Well worth a visit or to pass through on a walk. I have been for walk here many times since my first visit in 2011. Its really relaxing & with the meadows in bloom with wild flowers quite idilc. Quite a hidden gem. The small wetland walking path off the main path is right amongst the wildlife with seating placed where you can sit & observe the wildlife going about there daily tasks. Just a nice place to leave the world behind.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
