Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe

Three buildings with a nice overview of art ranging from the 16th to 20th centuries

The main building's 16th century items were not to my taste - mostly religious depictions of the crucifixion and brutal events leading up to the event; there were also lots of paintings of people being robbed or violent acts; hunting; war.......lots of dark themes that weren't exactly my taste

But there were happier paintings to be found - nice Expressionists exhibit in the Orangerie, featuring prominent German artists and there was even an Henri Matisse and an Oskar Schlemmer

Overall, have to say there was a very nice representation of the centuries & it was interesting to see the popular topics people were commissioned to paint
