Stansted Express

I've been charged a penalty of £72.40 once the airport since I tapped in my bank card instead of buying a ticket.
There were no clear signs at the starting station saying what I had to do, how can someone realise it?
Staff not helpful at all, but eager to charge the fee.
Embarrassing moment for Stansted Express. Shame on them.
Will never use their services again.

Dreadful payment trap. No signage regarding ticket purchases. Rude staff and just an intent to get extra revenue from customers. The operator should have their license revoked.

This is worst and most expensive train line . You can trust at all . Every time they have a reason why isn't run well service. For that amount of charge we can expect at least normal service.

Took this on a weekday around noon, quite a few people but not too many. Wifi on the train, quite comfortable seats. Quick way to get to Stansted Airport which was great!

You cannot pull individual inspections of every ticket holder coming through this station. What a crazy bottleneck. People in line were upset and the station staff was rude. Get automated ticket gates!

The Stansted Express train service is a scam. The gates at Liverpool Station will let you tap in and pay with a credit card, so you think you have a ticket to ride the train to Stansted airport but when you arrive at Stansted Airport, you will be charged an EXORBITANT penalty fare because they say you don't have the correct ticket. Online the Greater Anglia (company that owns the Stansted Express) says the penalty fare is for fare dodgers. We thought we had bought a ticket, so we were clearly not trying to dodge the fare. It truly felt like extortion because there were many people besides us who had not purchased the right ticket, and there were 5 people charging penalty fares at the airport/end of the train line - clearly a tourist trap taking advantage of innocent people who are trying to catch a flight and do not have the time to argue. Customer service was no help after the fact, either. Horrible experience. I would give 0 stars if I could.

Stansted Express is significantly more expensive than the National Express bus service which runs to several locations in central London. It is around 15 minutes faster but does that warrant the extra expense and enduring appalling customer service? For a recent trip I had bought a return ticket for £34. On my return I realised that I had left the paper return ticket at my friend's house. Despite the fact that I was able to show a PDF receipt for the payment on my phone and also had a photo of the ticket, station staff made me purchase an extra new single ticket for £21 pounds. This made my airport transfer more expensive than the actual flight from London to Berlin. Something's clearly not right here. Likely the last time I've overpaid for poor service.

I purchased the return ticket and paid the fee which would allow me to cancel the ticket and get my refund. My employer has cancelled my holidays due to emergency situation at work. I have tried to cancel the ticket and I haven't got any refund. It is a scam. Even if you pay that additional fee to make your ticket refundable, you won't get the refund.

increasingly more expensive and with increasingly less trains. once it was every 15 minutes now you're lucky to travel. personnel always rude and extremely unpleasant if you need help.

Relatively quick service from/to Stanstedt Airport. I bought my tickets both online and at the airport. Advanced tickets are up to half off depending on how far you book ahead. I had troubles at the gate with the ticket I bought online but the gate operator took one look and let me through.

The train ride is about an hour and smooth. Some cars don't have much room to put luggage.
