The bedazzling mystique of a $7.50 bag lunch wears down quickly, especially when you're told it no longer includes Dr. Brown's sodas, and if you're there within a half hour of opening, you can't get hot sandwiches. The Italian still sports sliced-to-order meats, but everything for toppings is a few flimsy shreds of iceberg, pickles and hots. All loaded on top of the meat pocket, which guarantees drippage to the nth degree. Hey, at least the bread stays (too?) dry.
The LevelUp hardware is also chronically out of order. At least they rarely smile!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 01. Okt. 2013Vorheriger Beitrag$7.50 Bag Lunch: 10" gourmet sub, bag of chips and a can of soda. I'm back in college!
Not really, but a big, sloppy midday meal can fool me into thinking so for the 10 minutes I'm wearing it as a cheese and grease mask.
Almost a foot of steak bomb with mushrooms, peppers and onions (ugh, strike that) on Al's-style under-baked bread, mysteriously toasted, and gummed together with Murrican cheeze stuff, bag of Utz Kettle Cooked and a Dr. Brown's Cream Soda for less than $8. Of course it's a gut bomb waiting to fill every diverticulum along your lower intestine, but hey, cheap right?
Definitely a sometimes food, unless you opt for the series of Boar's Head turkey sandwiches, with their veggies and cracked pepper and other healthy stuff, but what is this, the gym? It's Tasty Gourmet, Dick Simmons, grab 2,000 Cals in a meal or go elsewhere for a salad. Oh, they serve salad? Oh.
The aforementioned stand-outs: price, package, Utz, Boar's Head and Dr. Brown's sodas. Also, get a chocolate chunk cookie ($1.90). Better yet, get two ($3). They can replace your hubcaps if you seize from heart failure on your drive home.
Seriously though, for a sometimes treat, Tasty Gourmet appeals to your napkin-fearing epicurious id. Proceed with caution. - 19. Aug. 2009
Stopped in for an early dinner
Free parking is plentiful in front of the store.
The menu is huge so it can be a bit overwhelming.
Smoke House Mesquite Turkey on Three Cheese Bread $7.39
Smoked turkey, smoked bacon, smoked cheddar and Dijon wasabi mustard.
Bread was a thick and chewy foccacia. Not was I was expecting but ok. Turkey was delicious. Cant go wrong with Boar's Head. Bacon was bad, very bad. Thin, slimy, almost looked raw. GROSS. Maybe its just me? but I like my bacon crispy. I think this bacon is the precooked kind. I prefer fresh ingredients please. Dijon wasabi mustard: Is that what that stuff was dripping out of my sandwich? mustard overload. I wouldnt have guessed it was mustard actually. Taste like a cheese sauce of some sort. And I thought wasabi was spicy? No spice here.
The price is a bit high but the sandwich was large and it is Boar's Head meat. Id gladly pay the $7.39 (why $7.39 BTW? why not $7.25 or $7.50? odd) anyway, Id gladly pay the $7.39 for a damn good sandwich. Would I get the sandwich again? Not for $7.39, I wont.
The menu is quite large and the reviews are great so I will be coming back to give it another try.
PS. they do have breakfast also which I didnt see on their online menu.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Zig W.Hongkong371081614. Dez. 2011

I came to know Tasty Gourmet during their twilight years. I never ordered delivery, I always brought my kids, they never wore gloves, I never got sick. Heartburn, maybe. But that's 'cause I always made a point of getting the onion rings, which were above average. And that goes for the rest of the food: chicken parm, turkey club, whatever.
They were always welcoming, in that grungy, begrudging Boston suburbs way.
Not exactly the eulogy we'd all want, but I am sure that if we had met when we were both younger, this would be a glowing five stars.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ashley F.Somerville, Vereinigte Staaten98031. März 2015
The food is lackluster, and a bit pricy for what you get. I was also not impressed with the upkeep of the shop, the walls, floors, and most other things were covered in food splatters or grime.
The guys behind the counter were friendly, but they messed up the one very important request that I had. I cannot eat chilled deli meat due to a medical condition that puts me highly at risk for food poisoning. I ordered a roast beef sandwich, but specifically said that I absolutely needed the meat piping hot because of my medical condition. The gent who took my order said no problem, and I sat down to wait (ours was the only order going in at the time). After a while, I got my sandwich, and when I went to bite into it, the meat was still chilly on the inside. The guy was more than willing to take my beef and fry it up on the grill, but I'm not impressed when you can't address the medical needs of your only customer you're serving.
One star for food, ambiance, and messing up an important order, plus one more star for at least being friendly about it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Evan A.Medford, Vereinigte Staaten727. Nov. 2014
If you like waiting over an hour and a half for your delivery, and a delivery guy that laughs about sending the wrong drink, this is the place to order from.
I'm not one to complain as i understand that things happen, but every time i order from this place they take well over an hour and always screw something up.
Edit: Bumping up to 2 stars because they do have delicious food (when you get all of it). Not giving up hope that they'll get their act together just yet.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Matt L.St. Louis, Vereinigte Staaten10085268927. Jan. 2015
Tasty Gourmet.
Honestly, this is a pretty sad little joint. The location leaves a lot to be desired, but most Tufts students like myself have limited off campus dining options.
The food here is actually not too bad- some options which are decent include the lunch sandwich sets, as well as the turkey options. There is also a decently priced fried fish option, even though the fish isn't fantastic.
The biggest problem with tasty gourmet doesn't stem from the food, but the service and general maintainence of the store. They regularly run out of items and are constantly understocked, meaning they generally won't have the item you're trying to order.
The people who run the store are not great either. While they're not flat out rude, they don't really extend good manners to their customers, and cook food pretty slowly. I saw some people further down saying they were fun conversationalists, but I've never experienced this. The shop is also almost always closed, as the owners often just choose not to come into work.
Wish I could rate it higher due to the food, but this place is below average.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Maria D.Medford, Vereinigte Staaten8782423. Juli 2010
HELLO breakfast/brunch/sandwich/burger/lunch/heaven.
I am SO glad this place is located in my neighborhood. Its great and affordable. You can come here a hundred times and still not have tried everything on the menu. They have so much to offer its insane.
This is one of the very few places I will order sandwiches from, as I am not a big fan, so that's saying a lot right there. Perfect reubens, awesome turkey clubs, A+ burgers.
I'm really picky when it comes to breakfast food, but when I don't feel like making the trek to ball square or waiting in line, I tend to come here (or Lighthouse Cafe on High St.). This place was 100% made for the hungover Tufts student. Food can be a bit greasy, but obviously in a good way. And, it lacks places to sit (good thing I live close).
Tasty's makes me extremely grateful I live so close to a college campus.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Olivia B.Bloomington, Vereinigte Staaten495004721. Feb. 2013
If you don't appreciate Ralph, I don't even want to know you. It's a gourmet deli, not fine dining or a therapy session.
And if you expect to get treated like a bestie after a coupla years of visits, well, then refer back to my first sentence.
I've been going here since the first month they opened back in 1997...or was it early 1998...About seven years in, I started getting full-on smiles and (fully merited) snarky (but not at all icky - if you're a woman, I'm guessing you know what I'm talking about - which is what completely solidifies my opinion about the service here - they focus on making great product, not on monkey dances) comments about my addiction to their ranch dressing...which made me smile, But before then, I'd had a few thousand take away breakfasts, eaten at dawn on the Memorial Steps, and sandwiches & sides, enjoyed in all sorts of moods and circumstances. And every damn one of them was delicious.
So, to you pansy-ass jackhats complaining about not wearing gloves: please return to your bubbles. That is not DPH food service code. And it's a waste of latex / nitrile / plastic, if you clean your hands regularly and don't cross contaminate. I'd really rather someone keep a clean kitchen and work clean (as they do), than that they just act like wearing gloves fixes much of anything. (Side note: I have a sensitive stomach - never once in 14+ years, did I have any sort of food poisoning or adverse reaction after eating here.)
This place is fa-ba-las, as is Ralph. I'd rather have him making my sandwich perfectly, every single time, than some smiley faced goon sizing up my jiggly bits.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Vyshali M.Seattle, Vereinigte Staaten9848623. Juni 2013Aktualisierter Beitrag
Hey Jerks!!! QUIT THE COMPLAINING!
1. WATCH THE FOOD NETWORK! IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH GLOVES. No one wears gloves when they prep the 'gourmet' food that is presented on any or every show!.
PLUS i still can't find a better sandwich place than this !! Al's is boringly plain, like a Subway. Sam LaGrassa's is so overrated and generic, i can make each sandwich and side myself! Who cares the If the guy here has 'tude it means he can back up the product!
So, as a Tuftonian, still living in Boston, I make a 30 min trek for a sandwich, don't dis this place!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 018. Juli 2009Vorheriger BeitragThis is officially my 'virgin' yelp review. My first and I dedicate it to Tasty's. I went to Tufts for undergrad, and 9 years later, as I still reside in MA; now in Coolidge Corner, I still make the trip to this INCREDIBLE sandwich place. My favorite, The 'Arizona Chicken, with seasoned fries and extra dressing on the side' I don't even care for a side (I know they are fantastic) but the sandwich alone is about 2-3 meals for me, (you really can't reheat fries). The entire meal is worth the drive, even during rush hour. The owner, though we haven't formally exchanged names in the last 9 years, he always has a smile on his face when he sees me walk in. He remembers me, even though he can be rough around the edges.
EVERY melt is FANTASTIC, the price, unbeatable, and sure, if you want, it can be 'college hangover food', but not worth that title. I LOVE sandwiches, i'm always on the hunt for for a great, juicy one. This place is my favorite. All of them are wholesome, fulfilling, and 'tasty'. This is the best! IT'S THE MECCA OF SANDWICHES!
UPDATE!
*They accept credit cards! (They probably have for a while-but yay!)
***This is an add-on, I re-read a post I wrote about the search for sandwiches and pizza and how I felt I was Joey from Friends... There's an episode...
The guys are on a police ride along and heard a gun shot, but really it was a car back fire. Joey dives across the back seat; Ross thinks Joey is saving him. Later Joey reveals to Chandler, he was diving to save his sandwich......
I would too, if it were a 'Tasty's' sandwich... Kudos Joey, Kudos
