I was quite surprised that the other Yelpers have spoken so highly of the Goose. I've known this pub for three years and it's always been a bit dodgy. It's the kind of place that you have to watch not only your valuables, but also the creepy guy in the corner that looks like he's contemplating stabbing someone.
As chain pubs go, this is a scruffy option and there are certainly much better pubs in Walthamstow. I'm afraid that if it was already bad it's only gotten worse over the years. The beer garden is basically some old tables in a fenced in bit of concrete and I definitely wouldn't eat the food here EVER!!
It does have two good bits. It is located literally across the road from the station and the beer, as a chain pub, is cheap. That's it. Though while not redeeming qualities, it did attract us here after all the other venues were shut. Still I felt pretty unsafe and wouldn't have agreed to a drink here if I hadn't already had quite a few drinks elsewhere.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Hanus J.London, Vereinigtes Königreich0825. Great value. They do 2 meals for £8.95, and other meals are cheap as well. Nice selection of drinks.
Situated right next to Walthamstow St., it can probably get quite busy. We were in there at 3pm a Saturday, but found seating straight away.
I would've given it 5 out of 5, but they botched our food order, so we had to wait a bit longer. Still; it happens.
Overall a very nice place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (shinyg…)London, Vereinigtes Königreich685919. Apr. 2008
The Goose is a proper cheap and cheerful local pub with friendly staff and typical pub grub.
Though I wouldn't go here with my 'trendy' friends, nobody can argue on a hungover Saturday lunchtime with meals starting at £3 and the infamous 'ultimate burgers' that even the greediest blokes can't finish (I have proof). This has become a staple of ours when cashflow is low and heads are aching from the night before.
Think Wetherspoons but with a plasma screen, it tends to be quite blokey, with loads of old men drinking Guiness on their own, but all are welcome. Bottles of wine are about 50p more than the Tesco Express next door, and it beats crashing out in front of the TV!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (phanto…)London, Vereinigtes Königreich16107122. The Goose is a busy pub situated next to Walthamstow Central Station and Bus Station. It has a good range of beverages and food, and does a lot of special offers which are good value. There is no-where to park on street, by there is a large car park just down the road.
One drawback, they always seem to have the accessible door locked, which means a lot of unwelcomed attention when trying to get in!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (ALFRED…)London, Vereinigtes Königreich2161153323. Juni 2009Aktualisierter Beitrag

Quiet a big place. A good place to meet for a few drinks with friends. I haven't tried the food there yet so I cant comment on that. Has a nice smoking area. The staff are friendly and the drinks are at a good price.

Well I only use this pub for convenience. Apart from a small shopping mall and a pub which serves the cheapest booze around, the area has little else to offer. Most of the staff in this pub feel friendly enough but if you could help it, I wouldn't use their toilets. The food isn't all bad but it really depends who's working in the kitchen at the time. Their hygiene standards needs attention as they don't appear to wear cook's outfits or hair nets. Drinks prices are as low as you can get for the area although they tend to fluctuate at the manager's discretion. Apart from the budget, one doesn't expect a rise in alcohol prices at the drop of a hat. Apart from a Friday or Saturday night there's never a manager present if you've a problem with the service and it appears that that the bar staff seem to rule the roost. You really gotta drink in there to see for yourself. If it wasn't for the fact that it's right outside the tube station, I think that no one would be going in there.
