As you might have gussed by now, Utility Home Store specialises in quality furniture by leading British and European designers. Beautifully arranged like a series of rooms, the stock ranges from stylish and sophisticated sofas and chairs in muted and neutral tones to more fun and playful tables, stools and bookshelves in fresh acid green, bright aqua, pillarbox red and pastel blue. Naturally, the big pieces of furniture come with equally big price tags but a lot of the smaller accessories are about the same price you'd pay in a homeware store like Habitat.

Right now, they even have the beautiful bookshelves featured on the set of Pedro Almodovar's Broken Embraces. In short: a must for design and furniture lovers!

There are two shops on Bold Street, the household and the gift shop.

First, the household. If you want something kooky and kitsch, or ultra modern and snazzy for your house, this is where you'll find it. Utility have a cool collection of appliances, crockery and furniture - pretty much everything you would find in an upper market Ikea. My favourite is the spoon shaped like a heart, or as I like to call it, the 'bum spoon' (you'll see what I mean if you look at the pics). It is also the place you can get a milk jug shaped like a cow, designer chairs (that are currently in the sale for a bargain £1k each) and ultra modern kettles that look like they're about to launch into space.

The shop assistants are nice too - if there is something you can't find and they realise it's out of stock, they offer to take your phone number and call you when the item has arrived. If you can afford the price tag (warning: not a particularly student-friendly shop) it is the perfect place to head for furnishing your new pad.

Utility has just the right amount of functional modern furniture and useless, funky little gizmo's you will never use but know will fit in somewhere around your flat.

The overall style errs on the side of modern and minimalist inspired by classic 60s - a little Swedish - designs. Everything in here looks elegant and functional, never too elaborate but colourful. However it is not cheap. I'm not sure if it is better quality than Ikea, but it is a fair bit more expensive than the mass produced, flatpack gear from Scandinavia.

However what you do get here are a range of independent designers, high quality items and quirky little pieces that can be furnished and decorated by the cool selection of coffee table books and accessories.

It's like Utility Gifts but, like, they do furniture and nic-nacs and things. Yeah!

I really like Utility Home even though I've very rarely bought anything from here. A walk around checking out all of the cool lampshades and shelving units is half an hour well spent though. It's all a little bit on the pricey side but this is exactly the kind of aspirational junk that 40k-a-year job dreams are made of.

One of the few things I have actually purchased from here was a wall clock with a wipe clean board attached to it which proved massively useful when I was studying for my University finals. One day it will sit in pride of place in my sleek modern kitchen which will be filled with ergonomic stools and "War of the Worlds" tripod shaped lemon juicers all bought from Utility Homewares. Either that or it will sit next to me in the skip in which I live. Still, it'll be the best decorated skip around.

This place has all the stuff I would want in my future house. I would say you could buy all your future gifts from this shop, because they have something for everybody. The only drawback is that it is a bit expensive (keep in mind that I am a student). But that doesn't stop me going in and looking at amazing things each time I pass the shops. I want everything in there.

This is also a great place if you're looking for Moomin mugs, this is the first store in the UK I've seen selling them.

This is the kind of place dreams are made. That and you want to touch everything.

Both this and the smaller (but still perfectly formed) gift store are havens for presents, nick nacks and items you don't need but 100% want. For example, I was drawn in by a 'flat pet' - perfect for keeping in flats as they are completely cardboard - of a pug with reindeer antlers. Unfortunately, and this is the reason for 4 stars, it was around £15.

Staff were friendly and unintimidated by the Christmas crowds, meaning the shopping experience went by without a hitch. I did indulge in one or two hilarious cards, but I can't say more incase my mother happens across this review - I don't want to spoil any surprises!

When you're wondering around on Bold Street, this is where you'll end up. Trust me.

Utility Home Store is situated on Bold Street, in the heart of the city centre. It is a gorgeous store which is bright and clean. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful.

This Utility branch stocks a big range of items for the home. They have small items such as salt and pepper pots and larger items like sofa's.

All the items are beautifully designed and are of a very good quality. They have some great eye catching items, Unfortunately many of the items are all a bit expensive and out of my price range.

This is a great place to browse round but it will leave a big dent in your wallet or credit card.

Is there anyone in Liverpool who doesn't love Utility? Filled with a wide selection of gorgeous little trinkets, it's the place to visit if you're looking for some cute and quirky little pieces to brighten up your home. And whilst some of its bits and bobs may be a bit on the pricey side (£30 for a small model of a Superlambanana anyone?) it's a great place to pay a visit if you're looking for a unique card or gift for a special occasion. Or if you just want to treat yourself!

One of the things I like best about Utility is its great range of products from independent designers. It stocks a wide range of pieces from the iconic Tatty Devine, as well as other gorgeous pieces of jewellery from other designers from around the UK.

A great little shop - and certainly a place to come to if you're looking for something that little bit different for the special person in your life (even if that's just you!)

A stunning treasure trove of quirky & unique items from the uber stylish to the unique, tongue in cheek range of 'scouse ware'

I discovered this shop on my last visit to my hometown and was giddy with delight!

A funky shop to mooch in. My future visits home to Liverpool will not be complete without stopping by!
