A Tourist Guide to Eat Around Chicago

Since I am a tourist, I visited some of the most popular Tourist eateries. They are also popular among locals. Here are my top picks!

    I love Garrett Popcorn! I know there is a store right in NYC But I still came here as a tourist! The popcorn is addictive! You have to get their Chicago Mix which has Cheese and Caramel popcorn mixed together. The small bag is about $5 after tax but it is a decent size.

    It is literally finger sucking good! I can't wait to have more from that bag....

    My flight to Chicago was delayed for 2 hours but it did not stop my husband and I come here for our reservation at 10:45PM even though we had to drag our luggage here due to delay. We cabbed here right after the airport because once we missed it, we would not be able to get a reservation for another month! Our effort was paid off.

    First of all, I was shocked the restaurant was HUGE. It looks like it could be an old warehouse-turned-restaurant and still, you have to wait hours to get a table and month to book a reservation. The bar scene is very vibrant too with tons of people at the bar drinking. The restaurant is pretty noisy so I would not categorize this as an upscale dining spot but the food is undoubtedly top-notch.

    We started our late dinner with their homemade onion bread. It is a fritter I think because it is so buttery and crusty and their homemade butter dip and tomato spread were beyond the world amazing. It is a must get on the menu.

    Then, we got the the Ham frites. They are the bomb! I could totally taste the ham-infused juice in the fries and they are crispy and smell of delicious ham. We also had the grilled baby octopus with snow peas and they are delicious as well. Then, we shared a plate of green beans drilled in some mysterious sauce with some walnut. They are very good but I think it is a little too salty. For entree, we got the Pig Face like everyone else raved about and were delighted we listened. The pig face comes with really soft and slow cooked pork with sunny side up egg and crispy taro fries. It is absolutely to die for. We also got the goat belly and it is equally amazing.

    Too bad we were too full and too tired to order desserts. Till next time!

    We came here before our Wrigley Stadium Tour for brunch. It was 12ish and we were lucky enough not to wait at all. The restaurant was spacious and had great decor with freshly squeezed juice bar.

    We started with a fresh berry smoothie. It tastes fresh but feels a little watered down? I am not sure if it is because they don't add artificial substance or just because they might have added water? I also got a cup of coffee, which was great with refill.

    I decided to get the Chorizo sausage, which comes with minced chorizo with guacamole, cheese and sour cream on the side with some home fries. There are also toasted whole grain bread and sunny side up egg on top. My dish was very delicious and the portion is just right. The price seems alright compared to that in NYC.

    My husband tried their chocolate bacon waffles with maple syrup. The waffles come with bacon on top and bacon inside too. The sweet and salty combination is a genius mix and the waffle is fluffy and savory drenched in syrup and confection sugar.

    I love this place!

    The Purple Pig made me wait 45 minutes on a Sunday night after I just walked around the city in 90-degree day all day. The wait was nevertheless, rewarding and satisfying.

    Who doesn't like some wine and swine? The bar scene is vibrant and the wait is well, gruesome. Yet, once we were seated, we were greeted by a very friendly waitress. The wine list is very extensive and to be honest overwhelming! It does have a good range of wine from around the world at different price point. We had half bottle of pinot grigio and it was only $24!

    We got several dishes to share because this would be our last meal in Chicago and we went all out to make sure we try a good selection of food here since we just waited 45 minutes. The bone marrow is absolutely the best on the menu. It is actually a reasonable price too because they gave us 4 big bones with buttery crispy sour dough and cilantro to go with. I love it even though previously I was a little afraid of the texture. The beets salad with goat cheese was surprisingly delicious. In addition, the 3 cheese platter we picked was great. For entree, we shared the fried pig ears and it was so good! You must try that if you like crispy deep fried dish and who doesn't really?! You might be grossed out by "Ears" but trust me, ears are very subtle delicacy. We ended our dinner with Pig Tail and it actually tastes like Chinese pork belly stew. The pork was stewed to such tenderness that it falls apart from the bone with sweet savory sauce.

    We were so full that we could not get any dessert afterwards.

    There will be a wait but the boat tour was a lot of fun! Do the River and Lake tour for 90 minutes and you would see all the amazing and unique architecture along the riverside. The guide was very clear and knowledgeable and the tour was surely interesting.

    Remember to put on sunblock because it could get pretty hot during the day.
