This is the type of place that makes St Louis so great for late night eats. Sure a slinger is really not going to help that imminent hangover tomorrow morning but it sure tastes good at 3am after youve left the jade room. I love that every time I come back to St Louis we still have places like the buttery, eat rite, courtesy diner, uncle bills, etc. comfort food for a great price. Very buttery too. I will post a photo and their menu soon. You cant find a better deal. Make sure to tip well since the food is cheap and its usually one person busting their ass all night for your drunk ass. Did I mention the jukebox is great too?
i usually went to the one on south kingshighway but there was also one on hampton near my dogtown apartment. youve got the usual cheap eats: slingers, eggs/toast/hash browns, chicken fried steak, hamburgers, etc. all good, all greasy. late night fare. all night diners in st louis are the bomb and this one is no exception!
i still call it the south city diner. they did a nice job renovating it and the food here is good. the service is usually pretty good but i have to admit there is one person working here that i fear needs an intervention of some sort. not to be mean but i know the regulars know who im talking about! other than that, this is another great diner in a city of diners!
This place is so great. The food is cheap, basic, greasy, and wonderful after a late night out. I wish places like this existed in the bay area. I used to come down here years and years ago if I was out on washington, before it got all clubby. remember fallout? Thats what Im talking about. A slinger is something that must be experienced after heavy drinking only. That way your blood will be thinned enough to move all the cholesterol along. I've always found everyone working here to be very friendly. They bust their ass all night long so leave a tip dammit. You gotta get buzzed in during the night hours in this neighborhood. A little slice of route 66 history.
When i first moved to Chicago, I lived right near the beloved old Record Roundup. You can get Ham from the bone here and lots of greasy diner fare. You will develop a big butt if you eat here too often. The specials were cheap as hell an they know how to make a proper biscuits and gravy. Drink plenty of water to offset the salt and grease. Delicious!!
This place looks like a real, St. Louis-style diner and is just as cheap. You also get the assortment of old men at the counter. Total greasy spoon! Of course, that was over 4 years ago and the neighborhood has changed so maybe it has too. The food is good and cheap and consists of your basic diner fare. This place has character!!
i came here with a friend for a bite to eat last night before the caroliner show at du nord. i had a hamburger and fries, it was delicious! i am partial to 24 hour diners and they are very rare out here so i am biased. also, our waiter zac was really really nice and cute. i just like diners. the food was good!
i lived down the street for years so i used to come here a lot for brunch with friends. i like that you can get something sweet and salty together (eggs, home fries, pancakes, toast, bacon) and the food/coffee is good! it is cheap and usually doesnt get too overly crowded. a nice spot!
i came here at about 3am after a night of karaoke at the do re mi for my bday last night. this place is just a great greasy spoon diner. the good morning special has everything you need. bacon and/or sausage, six pancakes, 2 eggs for 6 bucks. our waitress was awesome and kept asking if we needed more water to wash it all down. she was cool. there arent enough real 24 hour diners in the bay area so i have to say i was pretty pleased with this place and felt nice and full when i left. i though the food was pretty good too. didnt have the coffee though, next time!!
i havent been here in years but the food is good. when i lived here we considered this logan square but this says bucktown? ok. anyway, the pancakes are really good and so is the french toast. one time when i was here, that guy from the american pie movie was there. fascinating, i know. good food, reasonable prices.
I miss this place too! It was great for late night eats after leaving a show at the Empty Bottle. The food is your basic diner fare and is good! It is a neighborhood gem and I'm glad it is still around when I come back to visit.
The bay area needs a place like this for sure. Open all night, some kind of music room that was still hoppin' when we were there at 2:30 am the other night, and delicious pickles on the house!! The food seemed all right, I had a cheeseburger fries and coke but I wished I would've gotten the pastrami in retrospect. Great late night place!
I came here once and the atmosphere is a bit depressing. The coffee is not very good and neither is the food. I appreciate that it is still here considering the gentrification of this neighborhood but Jeri's is better!
this place is ok. the food is decent but you wait a while for your food and i am just not overly fond of that if there is no one else around. i agree that the pancakes are not so good and that is such a basic item that they lose a star just for that.
