Absolutely love this new hot spot. Despite the fact that it was an old douche-bag Ex with his feminine voice raving about this place... But it was other friends and my date that influenced me to venture out here... we were so glad we did.
Refreshingly new ambiance with super friendly customer service... perhaps we were lucky, our waitress was awesome... in fact we just saw her at her other job at Cotgona. She was very patient and knowledgeable in explaining all the variety of dishes. And her recommendations were phenomenal. Cocktails were exceptional as well. Can't wait to come back!
First of all Japanese cuisine is my all time favorite, so when I heard that Michael Minna was opening a new restaurant that would serve dishes from Japan, I of course was super excited. I have gone here several times and have not yet been disappointed. The location is ideal in the midst of FiDi. I absolutely love the modern loungy bar area especially great for HH because the spectacular floor-to-ceiling windows allows one to still enjoy the sunlight despite being indoors. But they also have a patio area too; good to know if you want to bring a canine friend:)
I have yet to experience the dining area or sushi bar, but I will. Lately I prefer restaurants that have a bar area; the ambiance is always much more lively.
I'm ususally at the bar in front of Carlo (fabulous mixologist) and with my girlfriends for HH. So "summer" is my favorite drink on their menu. But I'm sure that's about to change, now that summer is over. The only negative was that I wish they had a more extensive wine-by-the-glass list. As far as food: I've had most of their skewers, gyoza, and tuna tartar which were all delicious. But my latest favorite is hands down, the grilled squid. OMG this was off the charts super yummy!
The service was equally amazing; not pretentious but very friendly, attentive and accommodating.
Most memorable experience was when I double booked and had my young date meet me amongst all my girlfriends at the bar. Not a new date, I would never do that to someone new. Well 'never' is a strong word. We dated a long time ago, so I knew he could handle being around my friends. My most recent experience was dodging the bullet, when my friend said my Ex-BF was there. Please, if this was any other shabby restaurant, I may have walked out with the sight of him, but Pabu is now one of my favorites in the city, so ignoring him was painless when the food, drinks and service far exceeds the pain of bumping into a recent Ex... Leaving and not getting to eat the grilled squid, now that would be more painful!
This review is purely on how the cost jacked up (everything else about what I love of Hillstone hasn't changed). Perhaps I didn't notice it before when I'm on a date... but seriously, the baby back ribs were $29 not too long ago. Now it's $36. Well I'll make sure I suggest another place when it's a girls night... or make sure I just order the Kale salad:)
Lack of integrity was the conversation of the night. "Say what you mean, and mean what you say"... such an extinct concept with some men. Hanging out with the girls discussing our heated topic... while eating amazing food was perfect.
I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to make reservations just a few hours ago when we were at Aventine. My friends were stoked to dine here since it was their first time at this fabulous Italian restaurant.
I was dying to taste their succulent ribs since last time I was here they had ran out. And once again I was disappointed... no ribs... But I believe everything happens for a reason... God & the universe are telling me "summer time... no fatty pork... it's summer time!"
We all had our usual intake of Resveratrol... a glass of vino roso to start... And the infamous freshly-made wood fired Margherita pizza... delizioso! Our Gnocchi with chanterelle mushrooms... so yummy. I'm so glad there was 3 of us... So sharing everything was better... smaller portions... smaller waistline:)
Grazie, molte grazie Sam for your outstanding service last night! Yes I promised him I would rave about him on Yelp:) He was super friendly... always with a big smile on his face and exceptionally attentive!
My review of this outstanding restaurant is well over due. I was here just a couple weeks ago on Thur night, although it was not my first time, it reminded me to rave about it on Yelp.
I love everything about Kokkari... from the moment the valet guy opens your door, the beautiful dark-wood french door entrance, the posh front and back dining area, the inviting bar, the warm enormous fireplace... Euro-swanky decor.
Our flamboyant waiter was super friendly. My date and I enjoyed every single thing... the Malbec, the delicious asparagus, artichoke, octopus, lamb....
Coming back next week, I can't wait! Kokkari is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the city:)
OMG I absolutely love Noir! It's the epitome in my mind what a wine bar in the city should be. I was immediately enamored by the vintage yet modern decor with the cozy chairs / couches and the eclectic inviting bar. I absolutely love how the flat screen TVs were encased in a huge picture frame and was playing a black & white old classic movie. Last night, I have no idea what the movie was, but when I was here the first time it was during the holidays and they were playing the Jimmy Stewart movie: "It's a Wonderful Life". But the movie was silent because they were playing music.
This is a great date place or to catch up with a group of friends. My girlfriend & I just had light dinner @ Domo and I wanted her to check out the place before my date arrived. Thought for sure he would be running late since it was raining last night... Really wasn't planning to double book, but she travels a lot, so I wanted to see her before she left for DC this week. Ugh. Well Thank God my date was cool about it.
Oh and Jarek... Hope I didn't butcher our Irish sommelier's name... He was phenomenal. I enjoyed each & every wine glass he suggested. My date ordered the meatballs & flank steak..... OMG both were unbelievably delicious!
And an added plus was the bathrooms were not unisex; the women's bathroom was clean & big for a wine bar! I'm guessing the men's were the same, but not for sure on that one.
I can't wait to come back:)
