Great food, GREAT beer list, but very very bad service.
They tell you to make a reservation, then they don't hold to it. We had an 8:30 reservation and didn't get seated until 10:00. The next time my 7:00 reservation turned into 9:30.
Sadly though - even with the bad service, i'd go back again and again...and again...and again because the beer and food is so wonderful! Great outdoor patio.
Upgrading to a 4 - because of what? KARAOKE!
I had a flipping blast the day before President's Day acting like a fool singing at Flying Monkey. The crowd was great, the music was great, the service was great! All and all - upgrade to a 4 is necessary!
They deserve this update, and an upgrade to 4 Stars! Though the hostess still needs to learn how to say hello (and how to smile) - their services is much better than before.
We've spent two holidays at SS in the past few months, and they've handled our large parties very well. I must say, I was nervous about them holdling to our reservation on New Years Eve - a problem they've had in the past - and we were happy to walk in and see our table!
Second Annual President's Day Celebration at SS was a blast! Our server was a very kind - and even jumped in for some presidential trivia. I was never looking around asking "Where is my drink?" - and found him asking me ... "Getting a little low miss, ready for another?" My answer was always, "Yes!"
To recap - food still amazing, and service making very positive strides!
I invite you to take the A.J. Rocco's challenge (which I'm inventing right now...on the fly...)
1) Go to A.J. Roccos
2) Order the Irish Coffee
3) Try to not FLIP OUT because it is RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS!!!!!
That's it - let me know how it goes.
Great place to throw a Party/Function. We threw my friend's 30th Birthday there, and the employees could not have been nicer or more accommodating. They allowed us to use the downstairs Speakeasy space, free of charge, and let us decorate! The one caveat of having the downstairs for free was that after 9pm, they allowed other patrons to enter. We didn't mind because they just either joined the party, or were turned off by all the decorations, and went back to the upstairs bar. We ordered food to provide for guests, and when the food didn't come out at the proper time, they comp'd half of it (which wasn't necessary at all...) We brought in our own cake (from A Cookie and a Cupcake - highly recommended) and they allowed us to keep in the kitchen, lit the candles for us, and brought it out to the birthday girl. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and it was truly appreciated.
I will definitely use them for functions in the future - and the staff couldn't have been easier to work with.
Oh, the beer selection is wonderfully robust, and the food is delish. My one warning is that the drinks can be a little pricey, but nothing too over the top.
This place is truly unlike any other! Though from the outside it looks incredibly sketchy, it's a true dive bar with KARAOKE almost every night! If that didn't get you in the door, they have 33cent jello shots, and many other drink specials to keep each member of your party happy!
The furniture hasn't been changed since the late 70's, and the outside Patio has 12 foot metal fences and a random assortment of lawn furniture. Goodness, it's hilarious.
Try it out - you'll be sure to add it to your bar repertoire. Definitely a change of pace.
Okay - we love Dive Bar.
I get it that some of the clientele (only some ... not most) may be a little "west 6th" - but it's fantastic for these reasons:
1) Thursday 1/2 off all drinks
2) Skeeball League - we just signed up for our 6th "skeeson"
3) The bartenders and management learn your names - and treat you well!
Check it out - especially on Thursday, Friday, Saturday's from 12:00am to 2:00am (good music to dance to), and any OSU or Browns game!
This is quickly becoming one of my new favorite spots. It's a good mix of people, relaxing atmosphere, and a great place to watch sports games. Though I'm normally there pre/post sports games, it's always been a wonderful time (and good food).
Staff is great, serve strong drinks, and remember faces/people. It's a bar that makes you feel welcome and part of the neighborhood.
Great bar, good prices, and BEST pizza in town. It's right across the street from my building but I would recommend coming from other neighborhoods to come hang out at this place. The staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere is the young professional downtown crowd without the "bump and grind" feel of West 6th.
If you want a table, get there early - this place fills up!
The Nauti Mermaid is a breath of casual fresh air on West 6th. The nautical decor creatives a great atomsphere for hanging out with friends and enjoying a good beer.
Food is great, fanstastic beer list, and they offer outdoor seating.
Boneless wings with the Spicy Asian sauce - yum! It's consistent with other Winking Lizard's in the area, and is a great spot to hit up before or after a sporting event. Also, if you're looking for a place to do Happy Hour in downtown - it tends to be a little bit quieter than Panini's, The Clevelander, and City Tap. Probably just due to it's size - it's HUGE in there! It just keeps going, and going, and going ...
The front area is available to rent out for Parties/Private events. Its a great private spot!
I found myself in an awkward situation (not uncommon) back in August. I was unable to attend a Bachelorette party for a good friend who lives in NYC because I was headed out of the country - AND - I had forgotten to order some champagne to send to her apt for the party - EEK! Panic began to set in as they started calling for us to board our flight. I frantically started searching on Yelp for options ...
I called up this shop and they were SUPER helpful! The woman who answered not only chatted me through the options of bubbly, but also wrapped up the bottles, and had them delivered to my friend's apartment - all within a 1/2 hr of my call! Unbelievable, and she made me look like a rock-star. Minimal effort for maximum results - OK by me!
I will use them again if I find myself in a similar situation in the future. I hope to actually go in and say "Thank You" on my next trip to the City.
This place is a riot! You're greeted as you walk in by a jolly man behind the bar, who proceeds to slide you down a beer and a bowl full of cheese puffs. What? ... awesome.
BUT - the air flow is a little ... dead. I imagine this place has smelled the same since 1972. Ya, just a little dirty. I always order my beers from a bottle.
Great place to get your calm or "bow chica" groove on!
Walked in, were asked for our ID's, and turns out ... was just some stranger having a good time. I immediately was happy, and felt like I was home!
This place was a breath of fresh air compared to the crowded bars around the corner. You can grab a spot at the bar, get an affordable beer, and enjoy being by the warm fire!
Decor is nothing special, but it's not needed. Downstairs is more of the dive bar theme - pool table, a few stools (some broke), old school video games, and some booths. Upstairs was dance party central - 80's, 90's and today style. It was starting to get hopping when our party moved back to the ski chalet, but I'm sure it kept going until late in the evening!
