Seriously one of the best poke places on the island! Small hole the wall place, with one picnic table out in front and 2 parking stalls. For 7 bucks you can do a combo of 2 types of poke over rice plus a drink! Perfect food to satisfy after a surf session!
My favorite is the miso flavored! I usually like to do a combo, but i always end up liking the miso poke the best. Definitely ONO!!
Tea time right on the water! Great service, it was a nice touch to have our server show us all the different tea leaves and let us smell them vs just reading the description of the menu. I was a little surprised that the menu was just printed on loose leaf paper vs a nice hardbound book for a classy hotel like the Moana.
Went to Tea with my BFF and both got the Veranda Tea Service: our classic afternoon tea service complete with your choice of tea, three assorted finger sandwiches, raisin scone and a sampling of our delicious pastries (see pics attached).
Tea samplings: moana sunset - signature blend is an alluring hawaiian duo of tangy 'ohelo berry and sweet mango
moana royale -a tropical black tea blend with papaya, mango, banana and coconut to give it a full fruit body and sweet tropical aroma
The best was the chicken curry in the mini croissant! wish i could of got 3 of those. Maybe one more sandwich and one less dessert. Even thou tea time looks like not a lot of food, i was pretty full after the mini sandwiches and scones (WITH LEMON CURD) by the time i got to the desserts. I loved the mini mochi chocolate cupcake and mini mango cheesecake!
Great way to enjoy the afternoon!
TIP: free 3 hour valet when you dine!
15% kamaáina discount with yelp checkin!
One of my favorite places for late night pau hana and now dinner! Brought my friend here for her bday dinner and we were treated so well!
Started off with (complimentary) Pineapple Relish Chicken Sate' with Thai Peanut Sauce, Flat Bread and Cucumber Salad and also ordered the super cute Crispy Asian Taco with Smoked Duck Breast, Avocado and Spicy Salsa!
Entree choices - both I would highly recommend:
Miso Chilean Sea Bass with Pickled Vegetables & Asian Style Braised Kurobuta Pork Osso Bucco. Portions are great and super filling! my dress was getting tight as dinner progressed.
Our waiter not only gave the bday girl the delicious White Chocolate Amore Gelato Truffle dessert but didn't want me to feel left out and gave me one too! Heart shaped white chocolate gelato filled with raspberry sorbetto, served with raspberry guava puree
Awesome dinner and thank you to our wonderful waiter! They valet parking which aka guest parking if you know someone who lives at the Pacifica Otherwise check street parking and save yourself a few bucks.
Two Words - Pau Hana! They have 2 pau hana a day! 4-6pm and then again at 9pm - closing. A hip and trendy spot with good eats. I always op for the ahi and the chicken - each running $5! wash that down with a yummy lychee martini for another $5!
Definitely my go to spot for pau hana!
One of THEE BEST MEALS i've ever eaten!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely must try the tasting menu - a (generous) collection of their bests! I would say it's even enough for 2 people to eat.
"Soup And Sandwich"
Chilled Vine Ripened Hamakua Springs Tomato Soup, Grilled Mozzarella Cheese, Foie Gras, Kalua Pig Sandwich
Chopped Ahi Sashimi and Avocado Salsa Stack
Stacked on Crispy Won Ton, Spicy Aioli and Wasabi Soy
Ginger Crusted Onaga, Long-Tail Red Snapper
Miso Sesame Vinaigrette, Organic Hamakua Mushrooms and Corn - this vinagrette was amazing!!!
Butter Poached Kona Cold Lobster
Keahole Abalone, Hamakua Heritage Abalone and Eryngii Mushrooms, Green Onion Oil
Twice Cooked Short Rib, Soy Braised and Grilled "Kalbi" Style
Gingered Shrimp, Ko Choo Jang Sauce - loved it but a little too spicy for me
Haupia Sorbet in a Chocolate Shell, Tropical Fruits and Lilikoi Sauce - the cutest dessert!
Too bad the location is such in a weird spot, no views and sort of in the ghetto. Check out the pics of the delish food!
Need a place for brunch with a view but don't want to spend $50 a head? Check out Duke's. They have a breakfast buffett with the staples including omlette station, hot line of eggs, french toast (with haupia syrup!), and Portuguese sausage, All you can drink coffee and POG juice too! all for $17 AND front row view of the famous waikiki beach. Nothing too fancy at bfast but great place for brunch for locals and when you have visitors come visit.
TIP: No kamaaina discount but get 3 hours free parking at Ohana East Hotel on Sat/Sun with validation - enough for brunch and some extra time to do a little shopping after.
As every review raves...its all about the homemade mac nut sauce dripping over your pancakes/french toast...mmmMmmmmmm
How many WW points do you think their mac nut sauce is?! Can they bottle this and ship it to the mainland?! PLEASE!
I actually did not get the pancakes, and opted for the French Toast. I'm a big french toast person and i must say their French Toast maybe one of THEE BEST i've had in my life!!!!!! the batter was heavy coated so there was no plain taste of bread anywhere on the plate.
A must stop for breakfast in Oahu. Head's up: it is always packed and they are only open til 2pm so make sure you get there early so can get a seat.
cute place tucked away in waikiki! fan favorites with their wide assortment of musubis. my favorite would be the cucumber-egg-spam. i also tried the mayo chicken, a little too much mayo for me. the downside is there is no parking here. Tip: bring a friend so one person can hop out, buy what you need, and hop back into the car!
Great taste + big portions + fast + cheap = summarizes Gina's
I used to always walk over here from UH and every time i'm back in Hawaii, I always make a stop here for the food. I recall being able to get the kalbi mini bento with 2 sides before, but this time I went, owner Gina, said no more kalbi with the mini bento, so I opted for the chicken. I was a bit disappointed but its still great food and so much of it. I only ate 1/2 for lunch and I was stuffed, I saved the rest for later.
For under $6, you get 2 big pieces of grilled chicken, 2 scoops of rice, one fried mandoo, and 2 sides! I got the cabbage and the mac salad as my sides - great!
I like to pick up this and head my way to the beach to sit on the sand to eat!
Green Tea Cream Puff. enough said. SO DELICIOUS and under $1.50 each. I love Beard Papas on the mainland, but these are even better and cheaper! They also have chocolate and regular coco puff, and a wide assortment of pastries and cakes. However, I only make it here for the green tea cream puffs! Yummy in my tummy!!
Where else can you get a big bowl of udon for $5 in Waikiki? HERE! The line is usually always out the door, but its cafeteria style so it goes pretty fast. I tried the Curry Udon and it was delish! I also opted for the fried half cook egg which cost me an extra $1. Even though Hawaii is always warm and humid, a warm bowl of udon was great for those breezy hawaii nights.
Would definitely come back for another bowl and try the other different udon broths. The udon was very fresh as you saw the workers making it right in front of you. Yum!
Another must stop in Oahu - warm doughnut like pastry filled with haupia or custard filling....MMmmMMmm ...run you about 293403275 ww points but definitely worth it!
I told myself I was allowed to eat it if I walked down to Waikiki from Leonard's - to work off the calories.
Till the next time we meet!
Where else can you still find 2 scoops of ice cream for $1.10?! Even cheaper than Thrifty Ice Cream. Simple and tasty - what else can you ask for?
No lines, quick service, and a happy tummy after a scoop of strawberry + pineapple! YUM!
My favorite shave ice on Maui! Better than LocalBoyz for sure! The ice is super soft - compare to waiola's but with real flavors - not storebought sugar water. Add a scoop of rosealani haupia ice cream on the bottom = AMAZING!!
What i like is they poke a bunch of holes in the ice so the flavor is soaked throughout the shave ice. A large is enough to share between 3 people runs for just under $6.
My mouth is watering as I'm writing this review...mmmmm mango, haupia, passionfruit flavors..mmMmmmmm :)
Still hands down thee best shave ice on the island!
Cute mom and pop serving me homemade flavors over homemade haupia ice cream!!
Breath Taking view of Waikiki Beach and beautiful ambiance for brunch.
Food: The must order items were the brown sugar pineapple pancakes WITH COCONUT SYRUP. My friend got the french toast (which were a bit plain) but WITH the coconut syrup = AMAZING!! I would suggest they use smaller plates because the food look small on the plate even thou it was completely filling.
Going to say - skip on the Kalua Pork Omelette, pork wasn't too flavorful, nothing out of the ordinary.
Service: They first told us they ran out of the coconut syrup - and we were very disappointed b/c without it - we didn't want to eat our breakfast without it. Luckily the other waiter overheard us ask for it and said he would go fetch some for us at the other restaurant. Seriously, the syrup
made all the difference for our breakfast.
We were celebrating a belated birthday, and they surprised our table with a slice of haupia cake. That was very nice of them and the cake was delicious!!!
The food is good, not anything out of the ordinary, but you are really paying for the ambiance and view. Try to nab one of the tables on the edge - no window - and you just have the Pacific Ocean and Diamond Head.
Great for brunch and photo ops!
Free Valet: if you eat at the restaurant
Open Table: They take open table reservations - 100 pts
So many great combo plate lunches here, perfect for taking to go and sitting on the beach and enjoying it!
I got the #6 Combo: Kalua Pig, Lomi, Poke & Haupia for $10. So much food, would of been enough to share between two people. You have the choice of what kind of poke you want in your combo - they have about 5 different kinds. I opted for the Ahi Limu Poke and the flavor was delicious!
In addition, to finish off the meal you get a sweet dessert - haupia!
Came for dinner to check out the kamehameha of katsu! and sure enough it was ginormous!! Trendy inside with ikea-like furniture, with a view of the jumbo k-pop projected on one of the walls of the restaurant. I felt like I was in the middle of a k-pop music video.
Started off with the veggie pancake slices, really good but portions were super small. I think I could of ate that order all by myself.
However, the reason you should come with an appetite is their katsu - the kamehameha of all katsu! The katsu wasn't amazing but it is enough to feed your entire table...and you have enough for a bento for tomorrow's lunch. We also tried the bulgogi pizza, which was very interesting, instead of the traditional crust - they used the sticky rice as a crust. pretty tasty. a little heavy thou.
I would say prices are a little high for what you are getting, but if you want a place to enjoy your favorite k-pop videos on 20 x30 wall, you've come to the right place!
poke poke poke!! o how i miss you! so many different varieties of poke here - and cheap! only running about $8/lb. I walked down to Foodland every other day to get some poke - b/c i could! and now i can't :( and MISS IT SO!
This location also has a wide deli selection and I tried their made your own tossed salad section. If you opt for the healthy choice: For $5 you can pick 5 toppings and the guy will toss it to your preference. Or you can get a mini bento of Portuguese sausage, spam, eggs, and fried rice in the AM.
Remember to stop by Foodland to pick up your favorite hawaiian snacks to bring back to the mainland. Picked up some taro pancake mix and hawaiian sun guava jelly ---- BUT TSA confiscated it!! boo TSA! Jam isn't a liquid! - but TSA disagreed!!
Everything in Hawaii is so cute --- down to their eco friendly bags. They got some new designs since last time I was here - cute spam masubi tote and all hawaiian lingo! love them! i also brought them back as souvenirs for my friends.
Additionally, where else are you going to pick up Spam flavored Mac Nuts?!!
Favorite spot in Maui --- and this time........ i found out kamaaina discount of 40% while sitting at the bar!!!!!!!! WHAT! omgz best deal ever!!! (if you sit elsewhere in the restaurant you still get 10% kamaaina)
Thank you for always the great food and service- always my stop when I'm in Maui
$5 for korean food in Honolulu! Where else are you going to find that? I usually opt for the meat jun or the bibimbap for $5. I wish they had the sweet potatos side dish, im not too much of a spicy person so i always look for that side dish. They have the usual spicy kimchee side dishes for those who love the spicy.
No Pain, no Gain!!
It's a steep hike up but the view once you get to the top is amazing!! Coming to Oahu the number of times I've had, never did this hike till this last visit.
Make sure you drink a gallon of water before you hit this hike and try not to carry anything because parts of the hike if very steep where you maybe using your hands for support as you climb up.
Plan your time accordingly b/c on our way down the sunset and we were hiking back down 1/3 of the way in the dark - luckily we had some moonlight to guide us.
Great hike and excellent exercise esp for all the yummy hawaiian food I've been eating!
Can we just say "Fried Spam Masubi"?!!!! So we know SPAM isn't the healthiest thing for us but add some panko batter to it and deep fry it - even more unhealthy but at the same time even more DELICIOUS! Split this with 2-3 people, cuz it is quite heavy, unless that is all you are going to eat.
But you will want to save room for the entrees - I opted for the Kaula Pork and the plate was HUGE! i ate barely 1/3 of it and brought the rest of it home and packed it for lunch as I headed to the airport the next day.
Prices are a bit higher for hawaiian plate lunch joints b/c it is sit down and order so you need to leave tip. Runs about $10-15 a person depending on what you are ordering - but you do get enough food for another meal or if you split between two people - plenty to go round.
There never seems to be a place that doesn't give you enough food in Hawaii - and this place is no different. Went here after a hike and swim so hopefully burned enough calories to eat that Fried Spam Masubi!!
Reminds me of Matsumoto's on the North Shore of Oahu. The perk is that you get get free extras - ice cream, mochi, cream, or azuki beans or ALL of above as part of your shave ice experience. The flavors are alright - not super sugary - but i wasn't wow-ed by it at the same time either.
Service was SUPER SLOW - it was a Sunday afternoon and they only had one girl running the store - both making the shave ice and taking the money. They should have at least 2 people on duty especially on a weekend shift.
But for the small size (which was pretty large) only ran you $4 with all the fixings - not too bad on a hot Maui afternoon!
Really enjoyed this Farmers Market. This isn't nearly as large as the one at KCC on Saturday mornings, but just the right size for a Thursday afternoon/night.
I got to try a few of the different stands and was stuffed! Really fun to sample different foods and pick up some fresh produce!
There are some of the stands I got to try:
-Homemade Ginger Ale Stand - delish! i love ginger ale and theres a special kick in this homemade ale
-Tempura fried eggplant with ahi and unagi sauce - 2 pieces for $5, very unique twist on this veggie
-Med/Greek Stand: HUGE portions of chicken, lamb, pita and hummus, cost about $15 but seriously enough to feed 3!
-Beignets: warm french donut to finish off the evening...and in a heart shape! :)
