I love the architecture in this museum. Frank Lloyd Wright designed it, and let me tell you he is a genius! With his love for geometric shapes, he has incorporated circular shapes inside the museum and outside as well. Lovin' the continuity.
I saw Lee Ufan's exhibit which was interesting. I wonder what the next exhibition will be..
Thursday and Friday evenings it's pay what you wish. I came here on a Thursday night, and was glad to see that it wasn't jam-packed. They had quite interesting exhibitions. I really like the small wonders collection - it made me really think about "perspective." This museum is filled with abstract art; it may not be suited for some people, but hey, it's still art.
I love museums, and I love Gustav Klimt's artwork. Came here on the first Friday of the month for free admission. There's a line out the door so come on time! They have a good selection of German and Austrian artists. I really enjoyed taking time in each room to look at the paintings. Plus there were a lot of chairs that were not for touching nor sitting except for one. Yes, I sat on it because I was curious. Then I realized Sigmund Freud starting at me.. psychoanalyzing me, then I got off the couch.
Good size museum; it's not overwhelming in size. Fun fact: Neue is pronounced, "noya." I bet you didn't know that. ;)
This is as great as a museum gets! I went to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit, which was stunning. The wait was a bit long - 30 minutes, but well worth it. They did a really good job organizing the exhibit. I felt like I was in a whole new world with the soundtrack and the interior decoration. Golly, I was a bit freaked out though by McQueen's designs.
Anyway, there were other exhibits that I also enjoyed. The Night Vision photography was awesome. It really captured the melancholy mood in the nighttime. I wish they also showed more recent photography and a bigger selection of it. The small size just doesn't do it justice. I felt like I could have spent a whole day at the Met, but I just had to pick and choose. This girl's got to run!
I think this is one of NY's best kept secret (although it's not really a secret) - Free music Fridays from 5:30 to 7:30. They usually have good bands/musicians perform. I saw The Loom play, and they were awesome. It's great for listening to new music and unwinding from the work week. Plus you can stroll around the museum, which is a good size. It's not overwhelming like the MoMA.
This place is usually packed on Friday evenings because it's FREE. It can seem overwhelming at first, but they organized it very well. If you are short on time, I recommend just visiting the fourth and fifth floors. They have the big names: Van Gogh, Pollack, Dali, Rothko, etc..
And then if you have some more time, go to the other floors. I really enjoyed the Talk to Me exhibition. It's very interactive and makes you think about what art is.
