Kind of expensive? Yeah... but oh so good. Usually my man and I get take out because we don't like dealing with the crowds. The best way is to do things family style!!! My family comes here for special occasion dinners and we always have a great experience.
Our family of 6 ordered: Full Beefy Rib Dinner with corn (cut in thirds), Full Baby Back Rib Dinner with corn (cut in thirds), 1 extra Beefy Rib, Chickless dinner with Beans, Chick Tickler (to share), Large Onion Rings. Each of us was able to have 1 beefy rib, 2 baby back ribs, a few pieces of chicken, 1/3 corn and then share everything else. It worked out great! Came out to be $82 with tip, so that's less than $14 each for food only. We did order wine & beer, but we got them while we were waiting in line, so drinks aren't part of the total.
My standard order is a Chickless dinner with steamed veggies. I also like the El Toro Tri Tip sandwich. My man & I get a small order of onion rings to share. Seriously, you MUST GET THE ONION RINGS. Some of the best I've ever had. The tickler dinners are a great way to go as well since you can have a few of their AWESOME onion rings but I don't get the Ticklers because I'm just not a fan of cole slaw. As far as the other sides, the sweet baked beans are good (a little peppery) and corn is excellent (you can ask for it to be cut in half or thirds). The potato salad and macaroni salad are just okay in my opinion.
The staff here is always very helpful. Be sure to ask for extra sides of ranch and BBQ sauce. There isn't a bottle of BBQ sauce on the table like other places and I'm guessing that's because it gets stolen. You can buy the BBQ sauce if you want and it's available at Costco in a 2-pack.
To sum up: Is it the best BBQ I've ever had? No, probably not. But it's some of the best in San Diego and a great small business that has been growing like crazy! I definitely crave their onion rings, beefy ribs and chicken in BBQ sauce. YUM!!!
