What an awesome little place. It's small but it's so neat. Don't let the outside fool you. It looks like it's half ass from Virginia Beach Blvd but when walking in I was impressed. Far from being your traditional sandwich shop or bar the place appears overdecorated with TVs and crazy cut outs of sports signs. While my initial thought when walking in was that the place was stuffy I saw character of a cool sports bar that was...well different.
Everywhere you turned there was a TV. You wouldn't think that the place was full of TVs but it was. They were hidden through their crazy decor that it was like trying to find Waldo but super easy. You look at a wall to check out their interior design and low and behold, you were looking at a TV; with sports on to catch up on yesterday's action.
The place has bar seating, apparently a deck and maybe 7 or 8 seats throughout the restaurant. I like that they are able to open windows for fresh air on a nice day (like today). From all the bottles I saw it looked like they had a full service bar.
A very kind lady served me and my business partner for lunch. She was the only one serving tables and with the restaurant with 20+ patrons she sure did one helluva of a job taking care of everyone. She was quick, yet kind and personable, and was attentive to everyone's needs.
I ordered the gyro with fries for lunch. It was your typical bar food menu but this was a pretty decent sandwich. It wasn't so special that I'm dying to go back but it was better than your average bar.
I'm curious to see what this place is like during a live professional sports game. For that reason I'll be coming back soon. It's your local dive with a personal crazy twist that in turn is your special neighborhood bar.
I still love this place. It's not crazy like it was when they first opened. Depending on when you go you may have to wait but the absurd two to three hours...not so much.
I don't think you can go wrong with the food there: nachos, wings, burgers, tacos --- all are pretty solid. From 3 to 6pm they have one kick ass happy hour. I think it's half off. Their tuna tartare is phenomenal and I absolutely dig their mac n' cheese dish.
Thanks to this place I'm no longer an ass when it comes to light beer. Yes, I still drink Bud Light but I'm open to all other light beers now!
A bunch of us Yelpers rolled into this place last month for a CMYE. I was personally excited about trying this place out because I read about the new business in the paper a few weeks before they were to open the doors to the public.
I wasn't familiar with this particular area of Ghent. I've driven up and down 21st Street hundreds of times but was totally unaware that 22nd Street was full of shops and dining.
What I found was a very inviting patio area and cozy outdoor seats when walking up to the establishment. Inside is very nice! There is a bar area and a dining area behind a bunch of wine barrels.
Their food is amazing. The smoked salmon bruschetta was very tasty and I found the spicy mermaid sandwich (roast beef) to be quite big in size. I think I ordered more than my stomach could actually handle but the food was so good I scarfed everything down.
Throw a couple glasses of wine in with my meal and I was a happy camper.
Service was great. The atmosphere was perfect. I'd say this is a great place for 25 Yelpers meeting each other over dinner and wine. This place also hosts many charity functions. I'm always a fan of place that helps out non-profits. Thanks for the hospitality to the Yelp entourage!
So they say this place is a chain but I really don't buy it. It's privately owned and has most of it's presence in the New England area of the US. The service is impeccable and you get the high end feel but the place doesn't really break your wallet for the quality of food you get compared to eating out in big cities.
I've had their steak in the past and let me say it is top notch. Definitely worth the money spent on such a quality meal.
Today I tried their oyster po boy sandwich for lunch. I was able to eat three of my oysters before even diving into the sandwich because there was some much between the buns. Even at that point I still had a sandwich that had plenty of oysters to my tasting. Even just as delicious were their french fries... so addicting I felt like a I was celebrating 4/20 with the munchies.
I love this place. Great for events, too. I've held networking events here in the past and they even have a private room in the back for parties up to 20 people. It is worth every dime you spend here.
Orange Crush...enough said.
The last time I was at Waterman's it was almost four years ago and honestly I was too drunk to even tell you about my experience. This place is definitely a local gem. Their bar area was packed last night even with heavy rains which would typically put a damper on plans to go out for an evening of fun. People were ordering Orange Crush drinks five to seven at a time.
You'll find great views of the ocean in a really clean and sleek dining area. They have a separate bar downstairs that I didn't get to see.
I checked out their website and saw that they are having their Crush Fest on 4/15. They even have live bands on Friday nights.
See you at Crush Fest!
Go for the inferno Philly...really. This sub is no joke and will make you sweat your you know what off. Hotter than Thai hot believe it or not. A group of us came in for their lunch specials. Two of the guys never heard of the place and are now hooked.
Great pizza. Great subs. Great prices. Four people were in food comas at 1pm, one was sweating like crazy (me) and the total bill was $24.50ish (this included tax).
You cannot beat this place! Me love this place long time.
Gotta love all TLs in the area. I never knew this particular location even existed. So glad I found it because the Ocean Front is full of places that I would be open to having a drink but would think twice about eating. Perhaps the dirty night life weighs on you.
Same song and pony dance as with the other locations. I didn't notice anything different as far as the menu. The staff was pretty fascinated with my name so we had a nice little chat. Very friendly folks here!
Only eek about the place is parking. I found a parking spot and didn't have to pay. Others may not be as fortunate. I get it. This is the spot where tourists walk to from their hotel. The rest of us either fight for the small parking lot and two/three spots or bring some spare change for the meters.
Other TLs are more convenient but if I'm in the hood, can find a spot or getting around by foot/bike, this is the place to go.
What a great place. It sits right on some sort of body of water in Chesapeake. They have some awesome lunch specials....an assortment of sandwiches, a side and even an alcoholic beverage for only $5.99. Today I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with a garlic parm sauce. Whoa was this thing delicious. As much as I was in pain to do this I ordered a vegetable medley instead of fries. A vegetable medley? Well...it was off the damn hook! Sure, I noticed all the melted butter but I think it was probably better than fries.
It's a simple set up. They have a decent sized bar, an outdoor patio area overlooking water and a separate private room. My guess is that PBR is their signature beer. I saw it quite a bit on their lunch menu.
I'm definitely a fan of this bar and grill. Just try to avoid catching the bridge going up and you'll be just fine.
I always enjoy a place that has lots of history, 52 years to be exact. A business associate and I came in for lunch there today. He's a regular and has been for a few years. We were the youngest ones in the place. Everyone else seemed to be long time regulars for years and years. My friend said they don't advertise. They're just a mom and pop shop that has been around for over five decades.
When I arrived there were already sliced up pickles on the table. Looks like it's one of those things they do for everyone. Every time a table became occupied a little bowl of pickles quickly showed up for everyone. Interesting replacement for bread...and the pickles were good.
I ordered their Ricki sandwich: pastrami, roast beef and swiss cheese. Overall, a good sandwich. It wasn't too big but enough to fill you up.
They have lots of items that they sell inside, too. I really didn't take a thorough look but I saw lots of items one would put all over their house...things like cups and table decorations.
Neat staple of Newport News.
The food at this place totally rocks...and it's fairly inexpensive, too.
I was there today for a business meeting and thank God I didn't have to do any of the talking because my open faced lamb sandwich was getting thrown down! Lamb shaped like a burger, a first for me, with goat/feta cheese with a tasty Greek sauce... My fries were extra crispy just as I always like them. I just sat there and ate while my associates were talking away.
What's cool about this place is when you walk in you immediately notice a floor below you. It's a nice little treat since it's not obvious from the outside and HRVA folks like me aren't used to the underground scene. Apparently there is a tunnel that connects to the theater next door?
Oh how I love little road trips to Richmond for the day.
Hell yeah. This place is the bomb. It really is. Big ups to Yajaida P for suggesting this spot for lunch. In case y'all aren't aware she's my Yelp HRVA sidekick.
After reading about this place so much and writing about it a couple of times I was really looking forward to eating there. So damn glad that I did.
I ordered two hot dogs with chili, mac n' cheese and fries. Man was that a lot of food. Russ, the owner, was hanging out so I had after some small talk with him about the place and all the different foods. We got on the topic of sauces so I asked to add some sauces as sides to my meal. Go big or go home... Let's go jalapeño, cajun and stupid hot. Yep...stupid hot. I'm one for really spicy ish so I had to give this a go. I was easily able to handle this but Yelper beware --- it doesn't get you immediately. About two seconds in you'll feel the heat, not on your tongue. Your body temperature will suddenly feel the rise. All of a sudden it's warm inside and that's okay...it's not too hot that you lose your taste!
For a while I kept dabbing my food in the sauce and about halfway through I said the hell with it and just poured my stupid hot sauce all over the meal. Don't try to be a hero. I always get Thai or Indian spicy. Bring it!
I really enjoyed my visit here. Russ was so kind to stop by after we were done eating and talk to us so we got to hear his story. Part of his story is that he's a Buffalo Bills fan so for you Jim Kelly fans you now have a place to go to watch your football. It's throwback jersey time!!!
This place is definitely worth driving to from Virginia Beach or anywhere in HRVA. I'm looking forward to when another spot opens up close to me!
There's a trio that I roll in that have traditionally visited Hooters. For the sake of our relationships, wishful viewing and having some really damn good food I think this should be our new spot.
