So let me get this straight Clothes Mentor...
you pass on two bags of designer frocks and accessories ranging from (WARNING: name dropping will occur) Michael Kors, J Brand, Nanette Lepore, Missoni, and desirable vintage pieces and only pick out 3 pieces (and offer $15) because my stuff doesn't fall under the brands that you carry and are not part of the better selling pieces that you stock.
Fast forward to me dropping off my goods at Designer Renaissance and they take the entire damn bag.
Sure, I don't get paid up front but I would rather receive a check every 45 days from DR because they will pay me fairly and I will know that the consumer who snatches up my pieces will actually appreciate the quality of the garment.
Invest in some better trained buyers.
Tip: They did host a decent size Plus-Size and Maternity section!
I had never been into a Plato's Closet but am very familiar with the business model because I managed Clothing Xchange for a bit when I first moved to Nashville.
The demographic is certainly more high-school and collegiate here but they seemed to offer a fair price for the gently worn items that they pedal. I didn't dig too deep into the clothing racks but instead zoned in on some shoes including a killer pair of platform booties from ASOS and a couple of other fun pairs.
I popped in to unload on some unwanted items from my closet and was not surprised that they didn't pick from my vintage and designer pieces. However, they took 4 items including a pair of sparkly high-tops and I was offered $40 which seemed fair to me.
The buyer let me know that it would take around 15-20 minutes to go through my stuff and she made that deadline. No complaints here!
I doubt that I will come back to shop or sell again but my one and only experience was okay!
Okay, I kind of geeked out on my first visit to The Great Escape yesterday.
Why have I not been before?
Likely because once you step in, you just want to meander around, dig through their goods, and pretend that you're a kid again.
Quite frankly, I just don't have the time for that very often but wow did I have a good time!
I loved the kitschy books, toys, comic books, records, DVDs, posters, and paraphernalia neatly stocked throughout this large store. The staff was friendly and purchased some of my DVD collection that I was ridding of due to a move.
You can choose store credit or cash.
Prices are more than fair and you can find some unique gift ideas here.
Know anyone who wants a cutout of Princess Leia in her edgy gold bikini?
You. Got. It.
I can't wait until my next visit...
I was a bit overwhelmed by McKay as there is just so much stuffed into this library-like setup. Anything from VHS tapes and Playstation games to books about Religion and Justin Bieber. Did I mention the case near the register that sold refurbished and pre-owned Iphones too?
However, the staff was genuinely kind and efficient and their process for selling your unwanted goods is organized.... although the merchandising doesn't make much sense. Prices seemed pretty fair throughout.
I personally didn't see anything that tickled my fancy but for those who are curious or who have time to kill, McKay could be an adventurous afternoon for you.
