Swanky pants McGee up in here!
Just saying. This place is so so nice and I could never ever afford to be a member, but having the opportunity to utilize The Sports Club LA's facilities while visiting San Fransisco for work was a great experience.
While I can't speak to anything except the yoga class, that was phenomenal. After a bit of confusion, Tiffany N and I finally found the yoga space. After getting settled and also finding Kevin L there to rock the yoga as well, our instructor showed up. He was a bit late and we were confused, but he was a sub and really, no big deal in my book.
Energetic. Big time. Good for 7:30am? Absolutely. Handstands? Why the hell not, I guess...
But honestly. This gym is fantastic from what experience I had there. I feel as though if The Sports Club LA had a Milwaukee branch, I'd probably try to be a member. This place makes you WANT to work out.
Hotel Metro's special event/banquet staff? ON POINT, you guys.
Seriously: if you hold a special event here, know and trust that you'll be taken care of by Ted, Joe, Jamie and the rest of the staff, on the real. Trust.
I love that this hotel is independently owned, too. They're a green hotel, and that rooftop patio only open to the public on Mondays? Killer. Plus sangria specials! (Zen on Seven is closed to the public for special events Tuesday-Sunday, which makes sense, since it's one of MKE's only rooftop bars/patios/event spaces and it totally owns.)
They boast a pretty badass happy hour during the week for all y'alls that toil away at a downtown nine ta'five, too.
Hotel Metro: a fantastic, hidden-ish gem of a hotel/event space/bar right in the heart of downtown MKE!
It's posh-y and I like it.
Though I've not stayed here -- how often does one stay at a hotel when they live in the same city said hotel is in? -- I have been here various times for special events, tastings, etc.
And each time I think to myself, "Self! This is pretty great venue space, isn't it?"
The staff is uber-professional, the ambiance is swank but not over the top, the whole vibe is clean and curated, and the location can't be beat. Attached parking and available cabs make transportation a breeze.
The hotel bar(s) are nice -- I prefer Clear to Zenden -- and though I've not dined at Killawat (sp?), I have heard good things.
Ladies: if you've had a cocktail or two and are wearing heels, beware the stairs up to the second floor. With a steep-ish gradient and a carpet pattern so ABSOLUTELY mesmerizing it'll make you feel like you're on an acid trip, you'll want to take some extra care. Use the handrail. (No, I didn't bust myself, but I took note, so you should too.)
Upping Boone & Crockett to "as good as it gets" here on the ol' Yelp-o-meter because frankly, B&C really is (in my mind).
After making this spot part of my regular Bay View rotation, I can comfortably say that this joint embodies so many of the things that I find valuable in any go-to watering hole: knowledgable staff, killer drinks, an awesome ambiance, and a kick-ass patio for when it's nice out...
Fancy-ish pants more so than your corner dive? Yes.
The perfect place to enjoy an innovative cocktail or two with friends? Absolutely.
Instagram fodder for days? Act like you're surprised...
Yes, you'll pay for the cocktails. Yes, when it's crowded it's a bit much. But the confluence of understated pieces that make the B&C puzzle so special more than make up for these two potential negatives. The drinks are worth it. There's not much to be done if it's really crowded, it's a small space.
It's not a meat market, it's not a dive bar, and it *is* accessible Bay View cool on KK. Boone is the perfect spot to catch up with friends and enjoy delicious craft cocktails in a curated and cozy setting. One of my (new) Milwaukee favorites that has proven itself as worthy of all five time and time again.
