This place is a good neighborhood bar depending on the evening. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. However, it's become more of a sports bar recently and that leaves it open to it's fair share of douchebaggy patrons on certain nights. When it's not as crowded it's a nice place to settle down with a Boddington andshoot some pool.
The funniest and most unconventional comedy spot in town. The UCB has great improv shows with inventive different themes every night. I'm a big fan of Channel 102 night and Cage Match. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.
Sweet & Vicious has one of my favorite jukeboxes in the city. From Iggy Pop to NWA to Prince, you can find the right kind of music to fit the mood you're in. Oh yeah and the bar is a pretty sweet space too. The garden is great but it closes early as to not disturb the neighbors which is understandable.
I thought this place was just called The Room, but I guess it's called the Sullivan Room. Anyway, I really like this bar. They play great music even though there's no jukebox. They have a great beer and wine selection. I don't think they have liquor. If you don't want to sit at the bar there's a nice loungy space to chill out in the back.
Rodeo bar has vats of peanuts, great country music, and pretty damn good tex-mex food. It's a great place to see a good times bar band and kick back with a lonestar beer and say, "Yeehaw, I'm in a honky tonk."
This sister saloon to the now defunct Village Idiot keeps up the Country tradition. There's cheap beer and even cheaper beer. There's even cute bartenders on both floors. Oh and get this, they're right next door to Popeyes Chicken and when Popeyes closes at night the guys from Popeyes give the bartenders left over fried chicken and if you're lucky they'll pass that chicken along to your drunk ass.
I really dig the tiki hut decor on the outside. At first glance I was a little apprehensive as it seemed that it might be a tad bit too trendy but upon further inspection it was just a really laid back bar with good beer and good drinks. According to my friend who I went with the specialty drinks were especially good.
This place is an absolute treasure. This is a great place to see art house, indie, foreign and classic films. The actual theatres aren't the nicest and they don't have stadium seating but if you want to see a good old film on the big screen Film Forum gives you your chance. Also, my favorite part is that they have really old trailers for the other classics that are showing at the theatre and it's extremely cool to how the film trailer has evolved.
This used to be one of my favorite bars in the city before all of the fancy meat packing district hotels opened up. It used to be a genuine dive bar now it's the trendy dive bar to hit up before going to your favorite meat packing district night spot. However, you can still get cheap Pabst and damn good BBQ and that counts for something in my book.
I love to sing karaoke and if you love to sing karaoke this is the place for you. I had my birthday here and showed up at 8:30 on a friday and took it over with my friends. On the downside the drinks are a little expensive and it costs $2 per song. It's small and occasionally there's annoying people singing showtunes that nobody enjoys and everyone suffers. However, if you're with friends and want to get your sing on this is the place. Just don't sing Lisa Loeb's "Stay". That's my song.
This is one of my favorite bars in the city. You can't beat a bar where the bartender takes a 6 pack of PBR out of the fridge with the plastic still attached and just hands it to you. Also the basement decor is somewhat comforting in a city filled with trendy lounges and clubs. Oh yeah and I can't forget the kick ass jukebox. Never underestimate a place with a kick ass jukebox.
