Three of us went to Acme on a Saturday night. We were impressed that even though the place was busy, the service was excellent. We started with Virginia oysters on the half shell. They were served with fresh chopped parsley on top-a new taste combination for us-on a bed of something that looked like rock salt, but I don't think it was.
We decided to try the specials, One of us had shad roe, which she said was delicious. I had steak frites with bernaise sauce. The steak---it was ok, but couldn't match what I had had at Palisades in Eggleston. And as for the frites, I absolutely want mine to be fried to a crisp, but these, which were close to shoestring in size, were overcooked to the point that they were dark, bitter and hard. I wasn't sure if they were meant to be that way, but I didn't find them appealing.
The other had shrimp etouffee, which was served on-I can't remember, but I think it might have been grits and veggies? She said it could have used more veggies.
On a friend's recommendation, we shared the dark chocolate terrine with coffee-caramel sauce for dessert. It was to die for.
