We enjoyed the matzo ball soup, the corned beef Reuben and a vanilla egg cream. My kids enjoyed a cannoli. They have a variety of Reubens and other traditional New York style foods on the menu, plus so many pastries and cakes to choose from. The only complaint I had was that the temperature in the restaurant was too warm.

Matzo Ball soup!!!! The best!!!! Turkey Rueben with fries, slaw, pickles and fries! To die for. Short walk from American Museum of Natural History- well worth the walk! Get your deli fix on!

I stopped by here for dinner with my friend and her son.
We were seated right away and the service was super friendly.
The matzo ball soup was delicious. I had a sandwich that was completely packed full of meat for a reasonable price. Yup, would definitely return! Great little deli and great food!War dieser Beitrag …?

I wish I had read the reviews before I walked in the door. they have a limited menu of sandwiches and omelettes and a few other Jewish classics like matzo ball soup. nothing on this menu is cheap. I found it odd they would charge almost $15 for a plain egg omelette w a side of fries, but not give you toast.
the pastrami was definitely the only good thing we ate here. it was juicy and tender.
the place also appears to be worn and in need of cleaning, but I'm sure it's cleaner than it looks. they definitely get a lot of the business from families visiting the children's museum. so they are definitely family friendly.War dieser Beitrag …?

A place going to hell due to poor management - leading to staff attitude, an under performing kitchen and bad logistics!
Older generations in our family have taught us about this awesome Jewish deli, as they came here all the time. They dubbed it the best deli in town. It is no more, or missing its grip at a fast pace. Look at the other one star reviews below.
The princess that takes your order is nothing but attitude and has no idea about how food should be sold or presented. This is our second order in two weeks for a pickup (we cab it to get that food, that is how much we believe(d) in this place) and this time our food was again terrible and served in an outrageous way. We ordered matzo ball soup with the balls on the side so there is actual soup in the container. The large portion serves two people. We got them on the side, but with two added in the soup as a bonus. 4 matzo balls and 3 ounces of soups for each of us. Last time the pastrami was briny and full of fat. Today the brisket looked like it was cooked last week. When my GF asked for some extra mustard for the order, the answer was: 'you get ONE per order!'. The Mustard was brown and briny (propably been in the open for more than a week), we tossed it anyway.
We called them and got nothing but attitude from the said female. It was obviously our fault, not theirs and no accommodation, understanding or regrets were given.
Actually, the girl picked up the phone and started yelling at someone with my gf on the hook. Then she got back on line like: 'What?!'...
To Arties Management: please save what's left of this legendary place and get your staff issues fixed. This employee's attitude would fit an establishment far down the food chain. We imagine a Whitecastle far, far from here.War dieser Beitrag …?

I've had 3 colds since moving to New York and 3 times I have had Artie's Matzo Ball Soup. Not quite like mom makes but it does the trick. Really good, fast and inexpensive. My go-to for delivery or casual dine-in when I need a pick me up.

My husband and I came here on a cold winter morning at about 9:30 am. Their website stated they opened at 8:30, but when we arrived the extremely rude older waitress told us they had just opened.
I don't know if that's why the heat wasn't on, but the heat was not working at all!! They had a space heater, but kept it quite far from us. It was absolutely freezing!
All we wanted was matzo ball soup and the rude waitress basically yelled at us, told us nothing was made because they just opened and that it would be at least fifteen minutes, which was fine, no need to yell. As we waited, we asked for some pickles and she literally snapped, again stating that they had just opened and nothing was ready. I'm sorry, I didn't know that putting your hand in a jar of pickles required prep work? The matzo ball soup came a little later and it was not good, at all.
I will never, ever be back.War dieser Beitrag …?

Their chicken matzo ball soup is amazing!!! I have moved to the Bronx but come here for this soup....it's that good! The matzo ball is light and airy!!! Wonderful! I used to eat here when I lived in the neighborhood at least three or four times a month! The pastrami and reuben sandwiches are really great too....always with a Dr. Brown Creme Soda!!!

In the mood for good pastrami and Matzo ball soup? Come here! They have a dizzying selection of sandwiches and the like, but the menu clearly points out the favourites. My husband and I shared the pastrami reuben sandwich and matzo ball soup.
Don't judge me, but this was the FIRST time I had ever tried matzo ball soup. So... take my review as it is. I know it's a staple here in NYC, but it sure wasn't where I'm from. Can I say that it's just delicious? I'm still not sure what it's made from, but it's true, it's like Jewish chicken noodle soup (or something like that). It was hearty, filling, and just made me feel real good in general!
As for the pastrami. It was definitely tasty and HEFTY. But it also cost $15, which is a bit on the expensive side for a sandwich. I suppose they did layer on the meat... However, I would say that Katz' is probably better on that front (albeit a bit oilier).
Artie's has a great home-run diner feel. Our server was super nice and friendly, and didn't scoff at all when I showed him the Yelp 20% off discount! Don't forget to use it!
Would we come back? Definitely! Would I try to eat something else? Hm, probably not. I was pretty satisfied with the matzo ball soup. -

Inside the place, there is a sign that reads "Arties is what a true NYC Deli is all about." That statement could not be more true, as this place is the epitome of what a delicious, jewish, NYC deli should be.
Location: Upper West Side, right on Broadway. It is nice to get a table by the windows so you can see all the cars and people moving on the street.
Inside: Its old-school, classic diner. Along the top of the walls are awesome pictures of NYC- central park, downtown, world trade center, NY Sports teams, etc. They have a bar, tables, and booths.
Food: Wow. Amazing. The absolute best Ruben's, pastrami, Hot Dogs, Matzo ball soup, hot dogs, etc. They also bring over coleslaw and pickles- both of which were really good. I have never been here for breakfast but I'm sure that the coffee and omelets are incredible. I split the cheesecake (topped with blueberry) with a family member and it was unreal. Perfect crust, not too watery but not too moist, and the fresh fruit on top was fresh and delicious.
Only downside: As another person mentioned they add 18% grat. to parties of 2+. Personally I don't like when places do this, because I, the comsumer like to decide what I'm tipping. And at this place, last time the food was perfect, and waiter was really nice and funny so I most likley would have added more. Oh well.
Overall: This place is classic, delecious, quick, and fairly priced. If you're on the UWS, give this place a try.War dieser Beitrag …?

I don't even know where to begin with this place. OK, let's just get right to it. The food was everything. Great place to experiment with Jewish dishes! The Matzo ball soup was wonderful. I had a sloppy deli sandwich that I didn't even have time to take a before picture of because it looked so good I just had to commence to chowing down on it as soon as the plate touched our table.
The down side...you're charged 18% gratuity on a two person table...I don't like someone deciding for me how I should tip.
With all that being said, I will be going back because I love Jewish food.War dieser Beitrag …?

This deli is subpar. Unfortunately it is the only Jewish deli that delivers to my apt, otherwise I would never eat here. The food has been really unreliable. The last time I ordered from here, the matzo ball soup was flavorless, a pretty atrocious offense! The deli sandwiches have been good though. Definitely makes me miss 2nd ave deli on the east side.

Truly great Deli on the Upper West Side. The Pastrami was moist flavorful. The Rye bread was nice and dry with a good rough texture and holds the sandwich together well. Paired with the Artie's Mustard the Pastrami sandwich was just as good as Kat's without having to travel down to lower side into the rougher neighborhoods, and also skipping the tourists. They literally gave us a small bucket of cold slaw and pickles, so they won me over right away.
We ordered the Brisket Rueben which was good also and packed to the brim with meet. The Matzo ball soup was great and we probably should have ordered a quart to share for two.
There's a Barnes and Nobles right across the street with large sitting space and a wide selection for your after brunch activity.
I'll have to come back to try the chopped liver next time.War dieser Beitrag …?

Neon sign advertises their hot dogs.
They have a odd old-diner-meets-drive-by type of charm. Place your order and the server will dispense dill and sour pickles and a metal bowl of coleslaw.
Pastrami was juicy, well seasoned and perfection with mustard. Watch out Katz!
The Matzo Ball Soup was cleansing broth, when taken with bite of the Matzo ball results in hearty, bone warming bite. Jewish Penicillin indeed!
Pro tip: order Their pastrami sandwich and matzo ball soup.
To quote Arnold: I will be back.War dieser Beitrag …?

So disappointing.
I have been going to Artie's with my family since they opened. Last night my 14 year old and I stopped in for supper, she was feeling under the weather so, obviously, we needed matzo ball soup. Tasteless doesn't even describe it. It was like water. On to a hot dog that appeared to have been simply boiled and than rolled across the grill. Artie's hot dogs were a staple for her as a youngster, always slightly charred and with the tied-off ends that proved they were made with love...no more. It could have come straight off a corner hotdog cart. Finally, the turkey burger...which was good. Very good. But the fries? Again, why is the kitchen messing with a good thing? They used to be sublime, crispy bits, totally hand cut...etc. These felt mass produced and somewhat flavorless. We were so saddened by the whole experience that we didn't even get a black and white cookie to take home with us. I think that was probably our last visit to what used to be a neighborhood favorite.War dieser Beitrag …?

As good as a delicatessen gets. I have been going here since I was young and now use it as a standard for all reubens and matzo ball soup. Even if you just order soup, they give you a side of pickles (both full sour and 1/2 sour) and coleslaw. My stomach is begging me to walk to 81st right now and feed it.

Little bit of everything at this classic Jewish deli. Yeah, I know some folks are all about "It's not exactly like Katz's," but for those of us out in the rest of the world who don't have their choice of legit Jewish delicatessens, this is one fine place.
But here's the thing: you want a wonderful pastrami, a cold tongue sandwich, maybe a knish, or some matzo ball soup, this is your place. If you're getting an omelet and a tuna melt, maybe you should've gone to Denny's.
Order what they're good at. Order what they care about. You'll like it. I usually get that cold tongue sandwich and the soup. Good for what ails you. My wife gets the pastrami. That pastrami is like nothing I've had outside NYC. Gorgeous.
If you happen to be visiting the Hayden planetarium or the American Museum of Natural History, or just hanging around Central Park West, it's just a short walk. It's right off the 79th St. station on the 1 line. Don't miss it. (And yes, I'm writing this for the folks in the rest of the world; if you're from Manhattan and think I'm wasting your time, shut up, I'm not talking to you).War dieser Beitrag …?

This place is definitely one of the better delis in the city. I love the huge bowls of pickles and cole slaw you get right when you sit down, and the cole slaw is very good. We started with the chicken matzo ball soup, which came with a huge matzo ball and tasted great. For entrees split the corned beef and pastrami reuben, and the corned beef, pastrami, swiss, cole slaw, and russian sandwich. Based on some of the other reviews here we went with the death by fries as a side. By far one of the best things i've ever ate. We only got through half of them and i'm really excited to go get drunk and finish the other half off tonight. The sandwiches were excellent, the meats almost melt in your mouth, and they serve it on some great rye.
