I attended Mayor Berry's State of the City today and he announced that Jet Blue will be coming to Albuquerque!!! Excellent news in itself, but it gets better. The first flights will begin Spring of 2013, including....drumroll please... direct flights to NYC!!!!!!!!
Some major fist-pumnping going on over here.
Mayor Berry sems to be making great efforts to atttract businesses to Albuquerque and that too is great news.
Maybe we can start a petition to try to get Zara, Uniqlo, Ikea, Megabus and Boltbus, and whatever your favorite business that's not in Albuquerque, to come here and open up shop.
What businesses are on people's wishlists?
In N Out is a damn good call. I'm amazed/saddened/glad they're not here already. I don't eat this style of fast food ever with the one exception being when I'm in a place with In N Out, so I can't imagine what it would be like having them available daily.
I'm not familiar with Freebirds. Where are they out of?
So if we're running a tally, right now we got 3 votes for In N' Out and 2 for Ikea.
Clayton, you just made my day, week, month... perhaps my YEAR. I have a ton of family in NY and my mother visits once a month, spending the better part of an entire day commuting each way. This is freaking HUGE for NM!
Howie, you already know my wife and I are hype about this. I just hope the price of a flight is reasonable. But either way, flying JetBlue is the best.
And yes, it's huge for NM, especially considering how much NYers love coming out here for Santa Fe.
As far as Panera, I'm pretty sure we have them just by another name at Paradise Bakery and Cafe up on Paseo.
We got another Ikea vote. What's the story of BevMo? Laura, you're not a fan of Jubilation or Kelly's?
Wow! Direct flights to NYC. Thats great!! What a move in the right direction for Albuquerque :).
I would like to see IKEA and In n Out come to NM. Those are the two that I can think of off of the top of my head.
On a side note, I actually wrote a letter to IKEA about 6 months ago to ask if they were planning a location here and also to tell them why they should build a location here. But they responded that it's not in the plans for right now.
I'm with you Laura...a BevMo would be awesome in ABQ. I heard that because there's a "Cheesecake Factory" on Menual and Carlisle that the REAL Cheesecake Factory will never open in ABQ...some sort of name copyright issue?? But I don't think I'd want a Cheesecake Factory in ABQ, it gives me a reason to go to Denver every few months. :D Genki Sushi would be amazing...but that's wishing for the impossible!
We have In N outs all over here in Vegas. Once you eat it a bunch of times the burger is ok. I would trade an In-N-out for a double Lota Burger with cheese and green chile! I work right next to a cheese cake factory right now and we always end up there when we have lunch meetings. Their menu is 100 pages. I wish there was an IKEA in Albuquerque, the closest one is in Phoenix. Cheers!
Clayton I definitely love Jubiliation for wine and Kelly's for liquor. BevMo just combines both and is much larger. I will admit to my need for one-stop shopping for my booze.
I heard a rumor that In-and-Out wanted to come here but NM wouldn't allow it if they didn't put green chile on their menu, and they refused. Anyone know if there is truth to that?
Clayton, Yard house is a restaurant that has 100 beers on tap. They have this dish called Mac & Cheese2 (Squared.) It is the best mac and cheese I have ever had. I am a beer nerd so, the selection doesn't impress me. They only have a few micro brews. It's an ok place. Total wine is insane! Like I said I am a beer nerd and I made the mistake of trying to run in this store with my wife and infant daughter waiting in the car. Let's just say I left them in the car for about 30 mins. Yeah I got in trouble, but the selection was incredible. I cried a little! :P
I was so happy to hear this. I have a ton of family in NYC and CT. Hopefully JetBlue will have reasonable prices and encourage other airlines to fly to NYC directly. Do you know if they will fly to LGA or JFK?
With NYC on my mind, I would be in heaven if we had a shake shack! Mmm...best burgers! Ikea would be nice too.
I suspect the flights will go to JFK, but I'm hoping it's LGA. I hate the drive from JFK.
As far as Shake Shack, I never ate there in all my years in NYC!!!!
Ernesto, as a fellow beer nerd, sounds like you and I have similar problems....like spending far too long in the LQ store while our ladies are in the car.
I was hoping for LGA too. Oh well...it's better than nothing. Anyone that is heading to NYC should go to Shake Shack. It's kid friendly too. The wait can be a little on the long side, but worth it.
My wishlist would include Rubio's or Wahoo's, both are baja fish taco places. As far as supermarkets go I really appreciate Trader Joe's coming here a few years ago but I'd love to see a Wegmans Grocery or Central Market! Last but not least, Nordstrom- the model of great customer service albeit expensive.
This thread has been re-opened to report the unfortunate news currently posting on Jet Blu's website regarding flights in and out of ABQ. Starting in April, they'll operate one flight a day from NYC to ABQ, leaving at 8p.m. and arriving at 10:45 p.m. That timing is bad, but the daily flight from ABQ to NYC is even worse: It leaves at 11:30 p.m. and arrives in NYC at 5:35 a.m. the next morning! Who's gonna start a petition?
I really don't get the massive love for In & Out. It's good, but IMO, it's no Lotaburger (High-five, Ernesto R.!). I'd take it over Five Guys any day, though.
I'd rather have Freebird over Chipotle, but I can't imagine eating at either in NM. Why have hipster-Mex when you've got New Mexican?
I would love to see a real NY or Chicago pizza joint open up here. A Famous Original [insert adjective] Ray's or Gino's would be pretty awesome.
EDIT: I didn't realize I was replying to a zombie thread. *facepalm*
Btw, Jet Blue hands out neat little nighty night travel packs for FREE. Ear plugs, sleeping mask, and a blanket. I am not the type to sleep on a plane- yet I have never had a problem snoozing on a Jet Blue flight.
My business wish list: Teds Hot Dogs, Dinosaur BBQ, Wegmans Grocery, and Mac Gregors Bar and Grille (some have over 100 taps of craft brew). Of course there is no way that any of the aforementioned places would open here... Although Teds has a location in Arizona. Hmmm...
